    So IMO, Set 1 was a much more constructed-focused set. Lots of staple effects to cement the feel of each Aspect.
    Set 2 and especially Set 3 feel much more focused on sealed and draft. Like the cycle of senators: cheap, high HP utility units will help with both exploit and coordinate. Obviously they are too expensive and clunky for Premier, but I think it's a mistake to expect them to be.
    Most of the coordinate units seem terrible for Premier, but the mechanic looks like it'll lead to some really interesting games in draft.

    • @Thorrk_THT
      @Thorrk_THT  24 дня назад

      If what you say is true and this is intentional, then I fundamentally disagree with that design philosophy. You can make a set that brings a lot of news cards for constructed AND be fun to draft, Set 1 is a great example of that.

  • @YannCauet
    @YannCauet 25 дней назад +2

    I totally agree with your analysis on Coordinate. Even with the coordinate effect, cards are just playable. If coordinate cards get already their effect without requirement then enhanced effect if coordinate it would have been more interesting

    The 3/1 coordinate damages a unit in the same arena as YOUR unit that took damage. So you can do either ground or space.

    only 2:00 minutes in, and the first card had me thinking that, yes it is good...but it would be even better if it could exist as an ability without having the downside of being attached to a unit. I think SWU could benefit from "enchantment" like field cards that can have cool effect or actions like this, without the liability. Obviously there would have to be a way to remove them from play to make it fair....or even maybe once played it only lasts for X turns before removed. There are so many effects in the game i can think of that would be more useful if it didn't have the stipulation/downside of being on a unit card or upgrade card to last more than 1 turn.

    Thanks for the reveals! First Question I have, how many games with Coordinate have you played? Then again to the cards you do seem not to be good like grim resolve. If you don't clear that overwhelm / ambush unit it will give you a lot of headaches and for sure playable in Han2. Especially if you do not have access to Surprise Strike usually. Also makes Redemtion a wild one. Thanks to for the Foresight and Thrawn interaction. I still hope he will get his chance :D Thanks for the videos.

      I played games with coordinate cards, but I haven't tried to play a fully dedicated coordinate deck yet. My take on coordinate is that there are a few coordinate cards that are quite good, but the majority of coordinate cards are very underpowered and I don't think there is a critical mass of them to build a real competitive deck out of it.
      Just to give you a comparison for Grim resolve: Desperate attack is a FAR better card in Han2 and yet has not seen any competitive play. Conditional buff are never played in competitive because buffs are by nature conditional so adding a condition on top makes them too inconsistent. The interaction with redemption is strong but very situational, but good find :)

    • @meeplepeat
      @meeplepeat 25 дней назад

      @@Thorrk_THT True. But as long as I haven't played Coordinate I can't put it into place. Even as with exploit cards like waylay are much more played to turn off Coordinate or Punish Exploit. That said I feel having an Exploit with Ambush is not bad as you immediately get value out of it. And sure Draft and Competitive are two types of shoes. Thinking about it I fell that The Grid card and the Prey one are cards that counter each other. But also I feel that Maul everything with overwhelm/saboteur and ambush now are quite a thread. Not icluding the new Maul able to attack two targets. Lets see what the smart minds make out of it :D

  • @MichaelO-fe4bu
    @MichaelO-fe4bu 25 дней назад

    Definitely a lot of (underpowered) filler here!
    Out of the exploit cards, I do think Baktoid Spider Droid has some potential (if exploit is viable), a 5-6 ambush for 4 is very good, and even for 6 (exploit 1) it’s still alright. Can then be used as a barrage target (or Grievous can turn into a Sentinel, but not sure Grievous will be good…).

      It did not see major competitive play, but it did get some play as a surprise strike equivalent during Spark era. I used one in my Kylo Red deck as a 'you're not expecting this' surprise that rarely came up, but was a star when it did. Being able to increase offense *and* attack at the same time allows you to get around enemy defenses - and this allows us to get around defenses in a second way.
      That being said, unless sentinel becomes dominant in the meta, I doubt I'll choose Breaking in over Surprise Strike.

Considering that yellow is already weak since the release of set 1 (LUL) - as Boba leader for example (re-LUL), I wonder where the designers want to lead the game... I think the feeling of this set being weaker than set 2, is because it doesn't have these insanely pushed cards like Wrecker, Poe, Dragon, etc. The powerlevel feels more evenly distributed than on set 2. I gotta say though, I'm much more excited for this set than the last one. You say that the Official cards have no other purpose. Isn't their purpose to be an early game body with staying power to get you Ccordinate? I understand that your focus is competitive play and Coordinate likely won't be competitive but it is very clear that a 1-drop that is 0/4 or 1/4 is designed for that purpose. So, when you talk about being confused about Coordinate, which I don't disagree is a questionable ability, these Republic officials aren't part of your analysis. I think you're ultimately right, but it just bothers me that you ignore relevant cards that are designed to proc abilities. I wouldn't be playing any 1 drop Senator for their abilities. It is for the hit points.

    I Hope and I think you are wrong with Coordinate. You need to have the coordinate to be really good yes but a lot of tool to spawn à lot of nuits in play and take advantage of it. Even control can’t Vanquish 3 unit per round

    • @Thorrk_THT
      @Thorrk_THT  24 дня назад

      There are definitely tools to spawn those units, but most of those unabler cards are bad and wildy over costed, the pay off are also quite weak. The trick is that you don't need to kill all three units to disable coordinate just one of those 3, then you instantly turn your units into garbage. And the real problem is that even with coordinate turned on, those units are only slightly better than average.

    It seems like some of the new keywords being added aren't as well balanced as they could be. I noticed it in set 2 with Smuggle, where they'd lower the power of a unit to make up for the versatility, but all that meant is the card is understated from hand and WAY under stated from Smuggle. So we ended up with only a few cards that are really playable from Smuggle, and almost none of them are units.
    They did the same thing in set 3. They blocked abilities that make units playable behind Coordinate, and they raised the cost of Exploit cards so high that to play them for cost is unsustainable. They've created a situation where competitive decks are going to be about 90% value plays without those keywords (which means mostly set 1 cards), filled out with the few cards that are situationally useful with the new mechanics.
    The only hope in my mind is that that's so obviously the case that no one sideboards the plentiful anti-token options and an Exploit deck can take a tournament or two by surprise

    Weekly play reward are poor (no Value compared to other TCG) same for store showdown rewards. No real incentive in playing the game on long run, though on game design standpoint it’s really good.
