- There was a time when Skodas used to be the punchlines to all car jokes. Well, not anymore, thanks to a bunch of Volkswagen bits and some common sense pricing.
Enter the Enyaq: Skoda's first purpose-built EV in the form of a boxy five-seater SUV. It's based on the same platform as the VW ID.4 and the Audi Q4 e-tron, but is the cheapest of the lot, starting at just £32,000.
Can the Enyaq really out-do its rivals with a smaller price tag? Here is Top Gear Magazine's Serious Car Tester, Ollie Kew, to find out...

Skoda: building the cars you need, not the ones you want.
I have an 80X and as a father of two, I love it. Fast enough for when I'm alone and big and comfortable for family trips.
And unlike other brands, tons of room for people over 6 feet. I'm looking at you Mercedes.
Same here. Changed from an GLC, because the actual Model has so stupid short Seats, that I don’t fit anymore, with my 1,93…
I used to work for skoda back in the early 90s as a motor mechanic so I have a bit of love for the old Eastern block motor. my very 1st car I bought when I pasted my driving test was a 1985 skoda estelle 120LSE and i loved it 😀, I'm a petrol head in every sense of the word having owned a few sierra cosworths and up until recently a bmw m3 .in the last two years I have owned a new skoda superb 2.0 190 tdi dsg sel executive estate and I can confirm that it is by far the best car that I have ever owned. Only selling it as we bought a brand new volkswagan t6.1 transporter camper van .but we also bought a new skoda citigo sel 75 ps model as our daily driver and it too is a fabulous car .just as at home on the daily commute or a motorway trip to Dorset or up to Staffordshire. I'm proud to say I own a skoda and I would encourage anyone to experience the brand . You get so much bang for your buck with a skoda its a no brainer not to buy one 👍
Agreed. I've had four Skodas since 2001.... 2 new, 2 low mileage used.
After 14,000 miles I've been managing 230 miles per fill regularly in my Enyaq 60
This info is out of date now. Since November 2021 the fast charge is standard on all vehicles.
Top Gear has surely lost the charm. The presenter did work hard though. Appreciate that.
This car is actually really good. I spent over 5k km last year (it was painful because of charging), but car is great. Real buttons, it is quiet, 0-60 in 8s is fine for daily use. Interior is clever, lot of storage. That is good. Much better than id4, by faaaar better.
The downside is that charging is slow (around 130kw in real life) and max speed is limited to 160. It is bigger than octavia but actually has no trunk space compare to octavia. No frunk is missed opportunity.
I was able to manage between 13-16kwh/100km.
Bigger actually it's only taller and for sure because battery. No trunk size well there is 40 L difference when seat are up and 10 L when seats are down for Octavia so can't say difference is huge by any means.
Love top gear. You guys are a legend. 😃😃😃😃😃😍😍😍😃😃😃😃😃
It's on our shortlist for next Motability car. Currently have a Karoq. Beggars belief that VW/Audi allow Skoda to get away with it. 😂
Let said the electric car get fire on the middle of road, how long does it get to cool down?
For me, this is the best EV next to the Tesla model y. I quite like it!
For a few thousand pounds more? The Model Y LR, without options, starts at well over 57k. For someone in a lab coat, just a bit loose with the 'facts'
Please please do one of these reviews on the BMW i4 40
Top Gear sure is slow with reviews. What is next, a review for the invention of the wheel?
It's giving me jaguar vibes in front...minivan from sideprofile ford focus/c-max in rear
What’s it like on a roadway? Takes it to a test track.
Really like this guy's style. Like his Top 9s on the website.
The car? Couldn't care less. Enjoyed the test. Well done
I rarely click on new TG videos these days (go figure) and only clicked on this one to leave this comment:
Enyaq sounds like "tasty" or "nice" in my language (enak) but misspelled a bit.
Skoda really are great. Same quality as an Audi or VW but less price because of the badge.
I'd say better quality than some VW's these days. The new Octavia wipes the floor with the Golf Mk8 for quality and interior space.
Still double the price of byd and mg in Australia
An MG might be okay in Australia but in the UK it would be rotten in 2 years. Wouldn't touch one with a bargepole!
How did you guys take so long to review this?
The IV60 started at £32k, but they no longer make that model. The range now starts at £42k
Wow, what a mediocre review. TG has fallen far.
We ordered a Mustang Mach-E, then cancelled the order after the first available test drive. It bounced like a 1970's space hopper, inducing nausea in all passengers.
We test drove a Tesla Model 3 (no Model Y available at that point). Brilliantly fast and completely soulless, the epitome of a white good on wheels. The ergonomics of the huge central screen are also poor on anything but the smoothest of roads. Did I mention the hard ride? It's even harder in the Model Y.
VW ID4 or Audi Q4 E-Tron? Test drove both of those. The ID4 feels cheap inside and as for the haptic control buttons, awful. The Q4 E-Tron is super, so long as to want a black interior, less space than the Enyaq and are happy to pay £7k more for less car on a matched spec basis.
Essentially, there are 3 great cars in this sector at the moment: the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Skoda Enyaq. We prefer the Enyaq for its longer real world range (230 miles in winter, 280 miles in summer) and the extra space to fit in a huge dog.
We've driven 11,000 miles in our Enyaq so far, including a 2,500 mile round trip to the south of France. It's not sexy, nor does it try to be.
It's a brilliant, quiet, refined, low stress, mile munching, low running cost, practical family car. If you want a B road special fun car, buy a GR Yaris, Fiesta ST or Alpine A110. We did.
Why don't these reviews ever have the more affordable models? Not all of us can afford the top of the range!
They are press cars. It's whatever the manufacturer wants to show off. And this is clearly not a top of the range Enyaq.
I like it
From the side it has a look of a ford c max
Skoda + Belgian pavé = 'bouncing czech" 😆
Kia EV6 or Hyundai Ioniq 5
i came just because of the minecraft notes in the homepage :)
in Europe, everyone knows for over 15 years now that Skodas are just cheap Audis
over 2 tons, I wonder how much excess weight you could save if it had an internal combustion engine instead, maybe a vr8
Sail away sail away sail away… Sail away sail away sail away…
Nice Car ❤️
Damn i miss jeremy...
It's a shame he's a terrible person who physically assaulted a fellow human being for not bringing him hot food
I get that. But top gear ain't it. Look at the views. Just goes to show how much of a influence jeremy had on top gear.

Then you know who to blame
Our Skoda Karoq will be replaced with a Skoda Enyaq 85 premium very soon.
Punchlines? Aren't you talking about VW? Also the Škoda cars got MORE expensive as the time went on, it is a class above from where it was some 15 years ago.
Don`t worry about he price!
The CN player will fix that soon....
Like they did with Nokia/Ericsson/Motorola/LG and so on.
Let us see if big GLOBAL PLAYERS like Nokia will have successors in car market, like VW, BMW, Mercedes. I guess so.
And I am from GER.
I do not see anything a CN Comp. cannot make - and for cheaper. For sue they can to tech 🙂
I've got the 4wd version coming. I would have liked a wagon, but no-one offers one. I chose it over ID4 because it's got more physical buttons and bigger boot. I kinda would have liked the rear seat so move, so I could have sacrificed some leg room for boot space.
And yes, it's got no character, but I think it's like a toaster. No passion and functional as hell. Cheap to operate (company car) as I home charge it, practical as hell and I can enjoy my old RRC and motorcycle guilt free. And did I mention it's cheap to operate.
Joking aside I hope in next 3 years or so someone finally makes a big electric wagon. With proper trunk.
Dude. Buy a minivan. It would make you alot happier.
@@TonicofSonic Not really, we drive about 50tkm per year, fuel costs (even before the current clusterf*ck) are quite bit higher.
And anyho I don't get why most EV:s are SUV:s. Higher profile leads to bigger cross section, and even with good drag coefficient, it's still bigger than say with wagon. And as the resistance is into second power to speed, it really bites the EV range.
@@mcdick Actually Wagon is worse for efficiency because barn like rear is worse it creates a lot drag which reduce efficiency. Why you want wagon anyway Enyaq for example is really similar in size as Volvo V70.
@@mr.wizeguy8995 There are many slippery wagons. And as I said, total amount of drag isn't just about the drag coefficient. It's just multiplier for the total vehicle cross section. So wagon can have less total drag as it's got smaller cross section. People only seem to notice the coefficient, even though it's only part of the drag formula. (0.5* air dentisty* speed to second power * cross section * that drag coefficient)
And the main issue is that most wagons are much prettier than most SUV:s. Like V90 vs XC90. And they drive much better too.
@@mcdick Well Volvo V90 drag coefficient number is 0.30 when Enyaq has 0.234 so doesn't seem to support you claim.
Volvo has 1,6 meter bigger turning circle due longer wheelbase. Longer wheelbase means smoother ride but also make car not so nimble so which one you prefer.
Where is Hammond,Jeremy,James?
Id rather watch carwow
13 minutes I will never get back :( love Skoda’a though 👌🏻
Sports: no
Utility: a bit
Vehicle: not really, more a bigmouth spaceschip
A spaceship is still a vehicle though.
to be honest the old top gear is better
Im an Alfa Romeo/BMW man, but Škoda is BY FAR the best brand/option for what you get in the VW family (excluding Porsche).
VWs are overpriced and designed to be as fun as watching paint dry. Audis are outdated and behind their competition. Seat/Cupra are just meh.
seats are fantastic and look ferocious! adorable little cars that u need to own once in ur life
Indeed, Skoda is the sensible choice for those who know.......
Oqang utaqa suka brand ni tau...skoda enyaq...lg satu Skoda kodiaq...aku tgu org utaqa komen sesat sini 🤣🤣🤣
Poggers
ok
There is NO Skoda worth £45K So much for Cheap & Cheerful
And how many modern Skodas have you owned, in order to arrive at that judgement?
@@Brian-om2hh 4 . 2 x Octavia , 2 x Superb, all brand new and NONE of them were £45K to buy. And how about you SA ???
😎😎😎😎👍
NO! 140KW charging has been STANDARD on the Enyaq for 6 months now. Do your research @topgear.

Boring...
As soon as they mention a range of less than 350 miles on any EV I stop watching.
Do you need that though
Mike for sure drives 1000 miles without taking a leak and while also towing 2000 kg trailer.
I would rather wait and charge at a station on big trips than pay lots of money for gasoline for my daily needs.
Unfashionably tall? The Defender? The ID Buzz? These cars unfashionable? Talking about how Skoda is changing its imagine is just lazy now, I remember reading that in 2004, it's boring.
I cannot watch these anymore, this muppet with the white coat, clip board insults my intelligence.
A minivan with sliding doors is infinitely more suited to accomplish what these suvs set out to accomplish.
These are for egotistical, shallow grown ups who simply cannot accept their role as a parent. It is utterly pathetic watching kids struggle with the odd shaped doors required for this design when in a parking situation.
Thought its a Estate but no, Another SUV that nobody ask for and only people with no Taste will buy
LOL, 45% of global automotive sales are SUV's. Plenty of people are asking for them.
@@tpats5784 global love affair with suv are the cause for car emission figures being on the rise again after years of reductions.
people want suvs bro
Seriously how much were you paid by Skoda. Its expensive, slow and the interior is a cluttery mess. 7.8 seconds to 60 and a top speed of barely 100 mph is just too slow given its price.
Since when does price equate to speed? A Steinway Concert Grand piano costs £100k plus, and has a top speed of zero.
Most countries max speed limit is around 70mph, 8 sec to 60 for sure is way faster than average fossil cars people owns.
My car ATM does 15 sec to 60 and still many car are slower or equal than mine from own experience. Only thing you get let say 4 sec to 60 is to buy new tires sooner you don't get anywhere faster even you car goes 200 mph wait i was wrong you most likely get in coffin faster.
It's about the least cluttered interior I have seen
