For years motorcycle camping and road life was my passion. In the end it led me to 30 acres of wild forest that I bought and built a log house on. Now I hardly go anywhere. My quest was over. My dream fullfilled.😊
Yup life is life no matter where you are. We have a certain amount of control but mother nature and other outside forces play in. One thing I learned in AA many years ago, let go and let God. Be safe and we'll see you down the road.
The weather!! 😂😂😂😂 My friend and I were tent camping beside Summersville Lake, WV. There was a dark storm front at the north end of the lake. Like some special effects from a movie, it broke open like a balloon and started rolling down across the water headed for us, heavy rain and lightning. Many campers were in trailers, awnings open and those fold open tarps set out. When the storm hit, awnings were ripped off the trailers and those heavy tarps were tossed over trailers like umbrellas. Our tent opening was facing directly at the wind but never moved. For some reason I had taken the extra effort to peg down the mud flap at the entrance instead of folding it under the tent. Because of that the wind didn't get under the tent and pull it off the ground. We heard our neighbor who lost his awning and canopy yelling. "It tore my shit all to pieces and their tent is still standing". What my friend got a good laugh out of.... We also had a 9x9 canopy, but the lightweight kind without the folding hardware. Basically a tarp on four poles and a X pole to hold up the center. I tried to save it by standing underneath and holding onto one corner pole to keep it in place. I heard a clank, turned around and discovered ALL of the canopy was gone except for the one pole I was hanging on to. My friend was standing in the bath house entrance laughing his ass off. Me standing in the rain holding onto this pole.
Toured the western states solo, on motorcycle, for almost three months this summer. And I loved it. Always camping, mostly dispersed. One is getting into a routine after a while, that is true. And the weather has a way of deciding for you. Hail, thunderstorms, extreme heat, cold nights, winds from all directions. And wildlife like bison, moose, elks, eagles, coyotes, black bears and grizzlys to name a few are some of the things to appreciate and deal with when out there. Had it not been been for the 90days visa permit I may still have been out there somewhere.
Good vid, and all true. At 64, I’m still happy sleeping on the ground next to my bike. I feel like in my 70s, I’ll want a camper and trailer to use as base camp, and do short 1-2 night moto camps around the base area. 80s I will definitely want a house for the winter. So...yeah. Keep on rollin. Hope you get a million subs; that’d pay for some gas and bison.
Joe; Great video!!!!!!!!!! Not trying to sell me something or trying to be a movie star!!!!! An honest down to earth opinion of that lifestyle!!! Haven't met you but would like to. Safe ridin rubber down
Im working towards long term moto travel. I do have a homebase that i will live for my time. The road is calling me. Thanks for being real Joe, the world longs for truth. Peace bro
Our journey is somewhat parallel, but as someone once told me "we all do it differently" referring to the way we execute our travels. At 65, my enjoyment of sleeping on the ground isn't what it used to be. I reserve the dirt for those special places or multi day stays. I'll grab a comfy bed whenever possible. Like you, I also pad my budget with rally work. I work more than you so I can afford more, hence the Diamond level status @ Wyndham Hotels. One common factor amongst all of us is the ability to make due with less. I'm on year 4 of living on the road. I've never been happier.
Very nice video..I was in Nassau Airport and was behind a gentleman older from New Zealand that could of passed as Scotty father ..spitting imagine , I would of taken photo but didn't want to be weird..I started putting highway pegs on MzDeb..and realize the original owner put them on backwards..I think you would of discovered that too if I let you add new parts on her..I always enjoy your content..I gonna start running my camera more just for safety..darn near got run over going to doctor before trip..😢..hope you are enjoying your family...peace be with you..
Joe I am glad to see the new video. Yes being on the road gives you different adventures daily. But no matter when or where you go life comes with ups and downs. Remember Joe if you come thru Indiana your always welcome. Milan Indiana. We are only 40 miles from Cincinnati and 65 From Indianapolis. Be safe and have a great Biketoberfest.
Hey Joe great video, I didn’t need this video as I know already that you are responsible, you create your own income n thrive in your element, learn as much as you can of language , culture, you never blame anyone for your situation n you always entertain me and mine, I salute your ambition and am eager to watch your next video, congratulations on your ability’s to adapt n thrive, you go Joe👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You reminded me of a couple of things. When you mentioned a 9 to 5 lifestyle. Really think about the expense of a "normal" lifestyle. House upkeep, mortgage/rent, insurance. Phone, cable, electric, heating/cooling expenses. It's crazy how high the usual monthly expenses have become. I'd be happy with just a phone and bike insurance bills compared to living at home. Of course there are other expenses living on the road, but not that much.
Joe... gotta love the philoshopical outlook on life on the road and just life in general. A very informative video for all walks of life... Ride safe...👍😎👍😎
Another great video Joe, as always! Everything you mentioned in this video is so true, especially the comment about how being close to nature is good for your well being and psyche! I can't believe it's already been over 4 years since you started this lifestyle and I think that's awesome! Ride safe and hope all is well with you brother! 🏍🏍🏍
Im starting to tealize that I'll probably get cancer and never be able to do something like this if I wait too many more years. Makes me wanna say "fuck it" and live my own dreams
Oh I could absolutely go back to a road life. Biggest obstacle now is population. In the 70’s and 80’s could find safe places to camp easy. Motel 6 and local motels were reasonable. Truck stops today are sketchy. I’d need to head south. Stay rural. Thanks for posting Joe. Ride safe.
Looks difficult to me. I enjoy too many creature comforts. I also cant help but wonder what later in life is going to be for you and Scotty, others like you. It's going to take some $$ to get through retirement. I wish you the best and stay safe!
You do it very well, you make it look pretty easy, the one thing that fascinates me about you, is your ability to learn different languages, I am terrible at learning different languages, and you’ve done pretty good at it, continue success, and as always Godspeed
Would love to hear a break down of budget. Like how much a month you spend and on what. Like how often do you move and how much fuel you use in a month which i am sure is a huge expense. Scotty taught you well, man. If it wasn't for my job id be living like that, but I really dont have the cash to live on the road f/t, prob would if I sold everything i had, but that ould be really hard to do. I could prob sell my KISS Collecion and live for awhile, ive been collecting since I was a kid. I have a butt-load of 70s ACOIN shit! I think about this everyday, but still unsure if its what I wanna do! No fun going pl;aces where ya know no one, riding alone sucks too. I'd have to have someone doing the same thing beside me, if ya team up shit would be a lot easier for both of ya!
I just got back from a 2 week,5k mile ride out west, and it was incredible. I thought a lot, as I often do, about how cool it would be to live on the road. Its not possible at this time, but some day I hope to at least try it. Even if I figure a month into it thats its not for me, I can say I tried it.
I’ve lived that life full time. Buts its way more fun doing it now, that i dont have to and can come home to friends family and a nice home & MC GARAGE. Because comparative ,full time on road is a HARD lifestyle & the downside is in 20+ yrs. Nothing to show for it, except Memories.. fun to try, then set the bar a bit higher. Just a second opinion :)

I could not just jump into it......I'd have to start out going out for a week at a time......then once becoming an expert on one week away, I'd go for two weeks, then a month and so on and so on. On your Delmarva videos......I found it hard to understand the "fun rides" for someone who lives on their bike......a lot of those people you were riding with will go home, put the bike up for a few weeks and enjoy fond memories from the dry warmth of their homes of all the riding they did while you are still out there on the bike in the wind, rain, etc.
Exposure to different people, cultures etc. does, as you and others have stated, changes one’s perspective of the true nature of humanity. Broadening one’s understanding, empathy and compassion for our fellow human beings. Would that more people expand their horizons. We’d have a more peaceful world at most - a more personal peaceful psych in the least. Side note….I had an exact copy of your NC. Now have a ‘22 NC DCT due to having 76 y.o. arthritic joints that made it painful to use a clutch. No surprise to you that it’s a great bike.
Very good video Joe. Would camping ba as easy if you was on a full dressed harley? I mean you go into the woods and I can barely get this thing off the pavement
It can be done on a touring bike, but you'll be more limited in choices. One of the reasons I like this bike, it's lightweight and I can take it deep into the woods.
Hey Joe my name is Jeff I've been following Scotty since September of last year. And been living in a tent since November and loving it. I had a pretty bad wreck back in August. And hoping to be on a bagger like I've been wanting very soon and planning on going to Daytona this year if possible when are you planning on heading that way man.
Joe buddy, by no means do I think the life of a drifter is all bliss, Nothing ever is,Hell I'm retired moved to Florida from Ohio to enjoy the later years and I still have day to day delima's to deal with. I will say getting on the Bike and disappearing for a few days at a time is very enjoyable. Will u be at Biketoberfest ?

It can be sometimes. But, you take the loneliness and funnel it into other avenues like learning languages, making videos, writing, and reading. I don’t recommend being alone for long periods. And I know my limits and when I need to get to civilization

International trips can be nerve-wracking brother. Until you've been there a few times, it's a learning experience. I plan to do a video on that topic soon. Stay tuned!
Do you have a place where you can store your belongings? Thank you for your honest video, i really liked it ! Greetings from the north of Switzerland. Fabio

Hey Joe, This is Glenn, Last year I asked you for info about driving to Nicaragua from Key West on a KLR, the trip went wonderful, we went down the East coast like you recommended, but now I am gonna go to Panama on a DL650 Suzuki in December , I will be leaving from Yuma,Az where I am Living and would like to know the best way to go from here, don’t really want to go BAJA and catch the Ferry.. So any help you could give me would be great!!!!Thanks
Cheers man! There are a lot of great backroads running thru Sonora. From there you could hit Aguascalientes which is my favorite city in Mexico, and then travel down to Oaxaca and cross into Guatemala via Tabasco or Chiapas. You can’t go wrong! I’m told to avoid Guerrero and Michoacán at the moment
I don't want to live on the road full-time. I'm thinking a couple months and then drifting back to the homestead for a bit. I'm currently making investments to build my monthly passive income to allow me to do this. Its the freedom to not be tied to one spot that I believe I'm chasing. If that makes sense.
Hope you don’t mind me asking and it’s in no way a criticism, but you refer to your travels and lifestyle as a project. Just wondered, is that how you see the whole thing or just the videos that come off the back of it ?

I saw you in sturgis at memphis shades.. wish i had come and met you.
Next time!
Yeah i definitely wouldnt say living on a motorcyle would be easy. But i can see why u find it fullfilling.
💯
Hope to join you someday maybe you can help me get over the fear of international trips
International trips can be nerve-wracking brother. Until you've been there a few times, it's a learning experience. I plan to do a video on that topic soon. Stay tuned!
✌🏻🏍️
Joe, what scares you most about your vagabond lifestyle?
I'd be afraid of being chased, bit (or attacked) by a wild animal.
Being struck by lightning ⚡️ some of those storms are pretty freaky to be out exposed
Do you have a place where you can store your belongings?
Thank you for your honest video, i really liked it !
Greetings from the north of Switzerland.
Fabio
I don't own much, but I store my extra books and stuff at home where my family lives. And thank you! ✌🏻
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond I understand, thank you again! 👋
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Who is your weatherman or channels you use religiously to monitor what’s happening around you as you travel around?
I try to look at several ie Apple weather, accuweather, MyRadar etc.
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond I use AccuWeather and MyRadar too. I also use the RUclips POW Ponder on Weather to see the big picture in play with modeling from US and Euro satellites.
What brand of tent you use
Hillman
Joe are you riding to Mexico this year?
Not this year man. Maybe next year
I don't want to live on the road full-time. I'm thinking a couple months and then drifting back to the homestead for a bit. I'm currently making investments to build my monthly passive income to allow me to do this. Its the freedom to not be tied to one spot that I believe I'm chasing. If that makes sense.
Smart. Set your self up for the future. You wont regret it
Hope you don’t mind me asking and it’s in no way a criticism, but you refer to your travels and lifestyle as a project.
Just wondered, is that how you see the whole thing or just the videos that come off the back of it ?
Not at all man!! I guess the thinking was that each video was a project, but I guess that could also apply to whole lifestyle 😎
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond I was probably thinking too deep 😄
Audio is really low. ❤ Just can't hear you oh, very well
Sorry about that
JOE let fokes get to know you ,,this is good content
Thank you!!
Isn’t it harder to live a healthy lifestyle?
It's more effort, for sure
