Hi Joe interesting Q&A. Many years ago I was ridding with a group. We came upon a pasture with a tree by the road. Around the tree were seven head of dead cattle. It was pretty obvious by the bark blown off the tree that the lightning went down the tree and struck them. Hiding under a tall tree in the open can give you a bad day instead of preventing one. Nothing like a good lightning strike close by to scare the hell out of you. you seem to have a pretty handle on the life on the road but I am sure there is something new all the time. But that keeps it interesting. Ride safe.
Had a planned trip. Started out well. Camped for 6 wks in National & then a City park. Then I caught Covid it seems. Was so sick for the first wk couldn't get on my bike. Luckily I had just bought a large box of oatmeal & a 20 pack box of protein bars. Lived on that for a wk. Then struggled for another month working my way to my son's home where I am now. Still sick. Did ride a few good roads & 4000 miles. Not fun. Hopefully after this winter I will have better results.

I've been looking at adventure bikes, but don't think I'll be comfortable with a 33+ inch seat. The Honda Rebel 1100 has the same engine as the Africa Twin. It would be a lot lighter for me to get back off the road as compared to my CTX1300. Very similar to the ST1300 you had, but a touring style ride. It's just too heavy for any off pavement riding.
I know these are not adventure bikes but the Vulcan 900 classics have a really low seat height and you can put bags and a trunk on them and carry a lot of stuff. They can be bought for really good prices. I take mine on dirt or gravel roads with no problems.
@@DirtFishing I have a 900 Vulcan and should consider using it when I can't handle the CTX anymore. It's set up with a trailer hitch and an aux gas tank in the tour pack. But for now, I really like the better handling and lean angle of the CTX.

Happy to pay $10 or less a night to have a bathouse & security/rangers. More than a few have been murdered in unsecured areas.
Do you ever hunt for something to eat like a rabbit, squirrel, pigeon are fish? Only when your so far from life out in the middle of nowhere and rotisserie is out of the question?
I've wondered why people don't have a fishing rod with em at all times like u can get a small one and take up like no room then when u are bye water u can fish and hopefully get a nice fish super.
@@Raven44 Good idea but if you want to be legal you would most likely have to buy a non resident fishing license in the state that you were in unless it was your home state.
