I was so amazed by her talent and vocal prowess, I doubt I would have ever caught those minor lyrical mishaps. If you look a little deeper, you'll realize those "mistakes" didn't interfere with the song's intent and worked just as well as the proper lyrics. Through the freedom of personal interpretation, I've often changed lyrics myself. Maybe hers was more choice than accident. Just a thought.
Some top singers can do this while playing an instrument and sitting down. an example of this is Beth Hart singing and playing the keyboard to My California.

Now I do not even remember all the other renditions very well, because Morissette's is so great that it sets the standard for me. By the way, there may be slight changes she makes in the lyrics, but I absolutely don't care at all. It does not make her performance any less impressive.
Actually when singers here in the Philippines covers a song of their own version, they didn't just change the tone even the arrangement and sometimes some parts of the lyrics were changedand I think it's part of their musicality and being artistic.
