As part of our commitment to national development and our principle of providing an economic foundation for democracy, the Nigerian Economic Summit Group held a series of dialogues on the Nigerian economy with presidential candidates that will accentuate discussions on the roadmap towards an inclusive and prosperous Nigeria.
Nigeria is at a decisive point in its history, and as we countdown to the 2023 polls, it is critical, like never before, to nudge Nigerians towards making informed voting choices. The challenge before us, therefore, is to ensure the evolution of a process towards a leadership with a broad knowledge of the issues and the political will to steer the ship of our great nation towards shared economic prosperity.
In a bid to live up to our mandate to foster the establishment of an economic foundation for democracy, we sought direct engagements with the presidential candidates on critical economic policy reform issues and prescriptions, in the national interest.
The presidential dialogue series is geared towards sensitizing stakeholders and citizens of Nigeria on peaceful, informed, and accountable democratic participation and provide a unique platform and opportunity for presidential candidates to discuss their economic agenda in an environment of civil discourse.

Any eventually elected presidential choice is expected by the constitution to always express the Federal Character compulsion in his or her mode of administrative and political operations, on the pedestal of equity, fairness, sincerity & justice to all!
It is wrong if any zone within Nigeria is made to experience any negative influence of being sidelined one way or the other!
It is surely nepotistic and selfish for anyone to assume that his or her zonal interest will not be taken care of unless he or she extracts a set of pre-government (practically fulfillable or unfulfillable) promises from a set of politicians who could not be sure of the exact status of the nation's economy and finances until verified by the newly elected government!
What people don't know is that corruption is worsened when the politicians are forced to make unrealizable promises before coming face-to-face with the realities of the economic foundation & the financial base of starting a government which might require a sensible reappraisal of the budget to conform with project execution possibilities!
It is therefore wrong for any zone to assume that any of the presidential candidates does not have plan for their area!
Such an accusation could be accurately sensed or tenable after about Q4 of the government's reappraisal!
The current situation whereby only a zone is in charge of every leadership command does not correlate with the Federal Character provision of Nigeria's constitution!
If the perpetuation of the current domination of the functionaries of government by a zone, is what the presently benefitting zone from the lopsided arrangement is what the zone still wants to continue, such is unfair to the majority of the Nigerians!
It is the worst of injustice for a zone or a tribe to dominate others!

Tinubu's ability to deliver a flawless speech, packaged in the best of intellectual excellence & a share of the knowledge extractions from the historical past and presently acquired modern experiences at the national and international horizons of review, assure this writer & all that Tinubu is indeed mentally alert and fit enough to potentially become an efficient president of Nigeria!

His engagement in this forum, underscores and reinforces his ability to deliver, more than expected. This dialogue debunks the jibes and negative remarks about BAT. This man looks robust and in relatively good health, articulate, brave and knows what he is talking about. Be that as it may, whoever eventually wins the next election, before hitting the ground running must dissolve the Nigerian Economic Summit Group {NESG}, Economic Undertakers, who have been fronting for the IMF/World Bank in Nigeria with policies, which are contrived to destroy the economy, social life and create unrest in the country. Of course they have succeeded in turning Nigeria into the poverty capital of the world and a failed state. NESG is the wolf keeping watch over the sheep pen
Under the NESG watch, the privatization policy ruined all the thriving government owned businesses and created a stupendously rich class of oligarchs. The failed Bank consolidation policy reduced 85 banks to 25 with job losses in excess of 50,000.
Under the same watch, all the assembly plants collapsed ( Peugeot, Volkswagen, Leyland, Mercedes trucks, Fiat in 2005) Most of these assembly plants had attained 40% local content, the 4 refineries, Nigeria Airways, low cost housing policy etc all went down. Can the NESG point to just one programme of theirs that worked?
Why did the group not promote free education at all levels, knowing , that is the foundation of the economic development of the country ?
The incoming government should create a small think tank of straight thinkers, like Chief Awolowo did in 1954 on becoming the Premier. His first action within months was to declare free education in the region, followed by other other simple policies which worked, such that the legacy till date cannot be matched. The incoming government must take control of the economy and not contract it out to the private sector. The government will be held responsible for its failure and not the private sector. Core sectors must be handled directly by the government, such as health, education, low cost housing
Most importantly, the states must be granted autonomy or else the agitations for secession will continue and materialize. Whoever wins must reduce its schedule to the barest minimum viz: Military, Foreign Affairs, Immigration , Customs, Currency control . And let the states carry the rest of the burden
I have no favourite candidate, but I think BAT cannot be pushed around and intimidated, which is very crucial for Nigeria to survive its present predicament. However, he nor any of the candidates cannot rule the country as unitary state, without tearing it apart

He should at least try. Obasanjo did to GEJ when he saw some issues not going well. But Tinubu kept quiet because he doesn't want to offend the cabal so as to be able to clicnch their ticket. Don't be blinded by tribe. Don't think u are supporting Tinubu but instead doing Shettima a favour, an acclaimed boko haram sponsor and a man who supervised the greatest human heist in History and went on to promote the principal of the school in chibok. That was how we warned about Buhari in 2015 but they rained curses thinking they are doing GEJ. Today even Tinubu is crying because of the same govt he brought. Bad governance will always go round.
