Omg, so true. Where I work I have more experience than the 5 guys combined . I'm 59 years old. My boss is jealous of my abilities. When our locksmith passed away years ago they ask me to do the job. I said no problem. When this new boss was hired through Nepotism he saw my abilities. He ended up throwing out about 2 thousand dollars worth of door locks because I was the only one who new how to change them out as needed. Given my age I now just sit at my desk and do nothing. Unfortunately waiting to retire.
They use the same trick every time. 1) Introduce some new manager. 2) Have that manager make a bunch of new rules. 3) Have that same manager strictly enforce those rules. This process levels the playing field so a 30 year veteran has no perceived advantage over an intern.
That's why i left my job cold turkey. I was like, good luck doing my job without me. 1.5 years of torture. Took me a year to recover my self esteem. Leaving was a blessing.
My nitpicking boss has caused me to nearly break down from stress. Just got a job offer from a company that seems really enthusiastic about me, and I'm relieved that I'll be leaving the toxicity behind.
Congrats catrina, sending blessing your way. I think this is a good move for you. I'm working on leaving my job now. Boss is so unprofessional..I refuse to take it anymore.
Same here, my ex-manager used to mock and ridicule me with his supervisor. I'm great they fired me because now I work in a great company with great managers and coworkers and I left toxicity behind.
Hard work, good work, and loyalty do not guarantee success. Bosses often have who they want to advance in mind. Sometimes their choices are not better workers, they are just people the boss feels more comfortable with or who are more like them. You boss may like you and your work, yet won't advance you. If that happens, it is time to find another job, if you want to advance.
Yes, indeed. Bosses always promote people who 1/ Are not more clever than they are, 2. The most nasty people with law competences who are ready to everything for them like for example mobbing.
Just quit my job. Doing the best I could but it was never good enough for my boss. She nitpicked and micromanage the hell out of me and I was doing the best I could. So I called it quits because that is stress and negativity i do not need. I have already done so much for that company to be undermined on a daily.
I went through that too. Hard work and saving their butts, literally, should be acknowledged, especially when we have done that for them multiple times.
I gave my notice yesterday and I will be leaving 2 days before the New Year. I have tried discussing issues with management and made every effort for a healthy resolution. Some managers simply only care about themselves. I am tired of being the reliable employee who never shows up late and doesn't call in. Companies are naive if they think good employees will stay now that this pandemic has made it clear that this is a workers market. Good workers are fed up with self-centered managers and tired of bad employees who call in or don't show up and are shown no consequences for doing so. Starting off my 2022 with a new job. Best of luck to everyone in a similar circumstance.
Its sad because you look up to senior management in the beginning only to eventually discover that it was all a facade to sabotage your success and undermine your value. Its a perpetual cycle of narcissism in the workplace and I’m seriously considering my exit strategy soon meanwhile I’m just getting started. 🙄😭
I have a supervisor like at the moment. She loves to point out everyones mistakes. The day she questioned me about going on a break.I work hard and always get my work done.I was entitled to the last break I took.I got sick of it and went above her head.
Now take this an add another coworker to the group and it’s high school all over again and it’s coworkers in their mid 40s and early 50s and since I’m 34 an don’t play politics an don’t bow dow to their egos they think I’ll just quit
Another type of undermining boss is the one who "tells you to do the job you are already doing." This, to me, is different from "micromanaging". The boss can plainly see that you are doing your job, but he/ she feels the need to throw their weight around a little bit... to flex their authority, and just give orders because they seem to have missed their order- issuing quota for the hour. I've had a couple of those.... and just left on the spot. When they ask why I'm leaving, I will tell them why. If they threaten my future by saying they won't give me a good recommendation with future employers, I'll tell then that I will dissuade anyone from taking this job that may have to work under that boss. I'll remind the boss that the door swings both ways.
My current supervisor is exactly like this. But he's only done this once, because I called him out on it. I said, "I've been doing this job for 2 yrs without your help, do you think I need you to come over here and tell me to do my job?" He hasn't done that since.
My boss is doing the same thing even my Coworker tells me how to do my job when my coworker isn’t doing my job and if I don’t listen to my coworker then my boss will have me fired
@@hunter915rv Yeah, sometimes they'll gang up, because now the co worker is afraid of being next. So they gang up with the boss. People are obsessively competitive because they think that they'll eliminate the competition, and that the old ways are still tolerated. But a healthy workplace is the new goal.
Yes, this! Doing it for show in front of a customer. Instead of quietly feeling embarrassee, I'll tell boss to stop flexing and that I already know how to do the work
Ha, I had something similar at one of my previous jobs writing code. They wanted me to use some of their code to do something, even though I already had my own code to do it (and they knew!). So I agreed to use their code, but then it wouldn't actually work (which I told them). They let me use my own code again lol.
Would you believe I've left and they stalked and followed me? I've left multiple times yet they keep saying "just let it go," and "leave." They should take their own advice.
Some bosses have their mindset made up already. It doesn't matter if u talked to them about it. If they don't see or acknowledge ur works. It's a dead end job. Speaking from experience here. I just gave up on trying to be my best. When ur works exceeds expectation, but ur reward doesn't show it. That's a red flag right away. I started to hide my ideas & projects that will benefit me without sharing to my team & the department. In addition, some bosses only see and find faults in your works without understanding it themself.
Some will find faults in your work to cut your confidence down. It benefits them to have you doubt your skills so they can try to cause false incompetence
When I started working for my company, my manager was one of these, to say the least. When he was retired, nobody was hired to take his place. I think he knew I was there to eventually replace him. The sad thing is that I looked up to him at the beginning before I started to realized that he was resentful, petty, and small. I am so glad he is no longer around.
I had a recent toxic boss who undermined everything I did. Nothing I did was satisfactory to him. It almost seemed like he enjoyed taking passive aggressive jabs at me and never gave my work a compliment without asking me if I had help from other colleagues. After a while I stopped taking his toxicity to heart because I knew his home life was in shambles. His wife clearly called wore the pants in his marriage and he even told our team that he had no control at home.
yup that's usually how it is. many who try to control others don't have control in their personal lives. all the more reason to have boundaries and apply steps for prevention.
In order to understand management and companies in general you need to understand the “dark triad” which is Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and psychopathy. My previous boss told me this though not in these exact words.
@@JenniferBrick understandable. If possible I would like to hear your take on married couples in the workplace? I have not watched all your videos yet so I’m not sure if you’ve already done a vid on this topic or not.
@@JenniferBrick narcissistic people are likelier to be in higher positions. I had even seen a statistic on this. Statistics may lie, but judging from the status of work culture in general, they might be true
I had a manager who displayed all the behaviours, mentioned in this video, towards me while also bragging that she was an empower of women in the workplace. She was not open to bi directional feedback as well as condescending (at least towards me). Towards the end of my professional collaboration with this company I was proactive and suggested an innovative way to improve productivity. She eventually gave me permission to go ahead with the project (though very reluctantly) only to try later to take it over (I presume so she could get the credit). At that point I left cold turkey and left her in the lurch. It took me years to regain my confidence as prior to this latest manager I'd had a string of toxic ones (she was the least toxic of them all) who created an entire hostile working culture. At the time I completely underestimated how it would affect both my mental and physical health which took me ages to recover.
Walk out. Anyone with a bit about them will never tolerate some inadequate micro managing them. Hold your head up, laugh and leave them to their sad existences. Never let anyone drag you down to their level.
I always received positive feedback from our clients and my peers, but never my boss who would intentionally leave me off of important emails and exclude me from meetings. I don’t speak to this person unless it’s through her assistant. I was told not to contact higher ups without a cc of her and her assistant. She’s started fires by burning bridges in my territory, which I then had to clean up. This person is a key decision maker with a tight knit circle in the board, no point in pretending I can have a confidential conversation with anyone over her. Just honing my contacts, covering my own ass, and planning my exit. We’ve had 50% turnover (small org of 50 people) since I started! So I know the problem is bigger than just me. I don’t know why she holds this animosity - and I don’t care, just going to produce and document results and GTFO out dodge.
You work for a small organization (less than 50 people) and the people on top refer to themselves as the board? That could be your troubles right there, they view the workforce as expendable. From their point of view, why bother to get to know people who aren't going to be around much longer?
Same as me she excludes me from things that are important for my work too and only has negative things to say on my performance review when all my colleagues have good things to say.
@@SuperGhettoBob Its called Warm Body syndrome. Upper mgmt says to themselves, "Anybody can do your job.". At some point its true UNTIL you run off of people who will put up with the madness. Eventually word of mouth will let people know not to even apply. This goes on until the business ultimately fails.
I got nitpicked by my lead in front of 25 coworkers but the worse part is she was not telling me directly. She was talking about my job performance to the whole group without ever talking to me about it personally. She wanted me to hear her negative blaming comment about me without telling me directly.
Sometimes, it actually indicates a personality disorder. I can spot them, although I keep it to myself. I had a coworker like that, and it turns out she had a personality disorder. She had a history of being violent and obsessive with partners too. She actually told me so. But, yeah don't be suprised .
My boss who was a friend of mine too, would tell me to do an assignment and then do the assignment behind my back. So when I had a question - since she gave lack of training - she said I already it so I'll send it. Wow!!! Also, she complains about everyone, so I'm pretty sure she does that to me too. I just started and I know she doesn't want me to shine. She sees me as a threat big time. She is toxic really toxic. I am not the same with her anymore...she is not true friend she is a fake friends and possibly an enemy. It's truly sad. I even broke down and cried.
It sucks that you want to avoid conflict and just be yourself as a good human being, but bullies want to drag you into conflict and drama...it is part of their agenda to undermine you and break you down...they want to see you upset, mad, frustrated and they will do things to irritate you, yet they won’t do it to the people they know in the clique environment Unfortunately most workplaces are not autistic friendly either...they will plain up take advantage of a person with autism and it’s like a meal to these bullies that undermine others
Undermining tasks! The very person who nominated me for an award (and everyone who is nominated gets one) said about myself and two of my co-workers that we did his grunt work. Nothing will give me more pleasure when I quit and he has to completely re-train someone from ground zero. I do very complicated work and I know it. Have fun bud. I've been VERY patient until the right opportunity comes up. I think I'm just about to get one as I'm up for 11, yes 11 positions. I was extremely stressed the first 6 months at my current job. I cried about it but stuck it out. Now they need me. Karma man. Be good to people because these types end up screwing themselves.
How about a boss that can't be bothered to say "Hi" in the morning or "Bye" at night? Walking out the door as if you don't even exist? Thankfully the pandemic ended my "career" there.
I had a director that was like that- I asked my direct boss if there was a problem, and he acted ignorant and blew it off. I actually think the director was undergoing the early stages of dementia or Alzheimer's. Fortunately, he finally retired.
you are 100% correct..i have an insecure ,narcisist deli manger..who is feeling his age and memory ..and blames his mistakes on me..and publically makes me look like shit ..when im the one saving his job..i dont hold back , i call him out on his bullshit every time..and with humor..so he knowes ..im not such an easy mark..
While it's true that these types of bosses have some (major) insecurity issues, I wouldn't put any of these traits down to incompetence (except maybe micromanaging). These people on some level know what they are doing and this sort of behavior is never OK. You can talk with them about it, but this is their problem which is something you're unfortunately having to deal with. Best option long term is to change jobs and/or bosses. In the meantime, understanding their insecurities can help you weather the storm, but that's about it. In my first job I had a manager who did all these things. When I left, it was like a breath of fresh air, despite taking a lower pay and less interesting job. It was nice having a boss who had your back for a change.
I was undermined for 13 years, yes the bosses were under-trained & insecure but a good majority were malicious & self-seeking their next promotion. I have learned to document & trust no one. I would like to know how to recover from a very toxic work environment?
Ended my shift pretty down today, I've been dealing with a lot issues at work lately, came across your videos I'm feeling so much better now and with a better understanding of what to do or how to deal with it. Thank you 👍👍
I’m here to make sure I’m not an undermining boss. You’re so right about managers not receiving leadership training. I rely on books and videos like this to improve. Thank you!
If you're looking for a great channel dedicated to leadership training, Makeda Andrews is the absolute bomb! If you like my approach I know you'll like hers too, we are really philosophically aligned.
I’d advise an exit plan before going over their head in some cases. In my position there’s too tight of an inner circle in upper management to ever delude myself into thinking a high-level complaint wouldn’t be discussed with my supervisor that night over drinks. Focus on the clients and contacts you’ve made and download your lists so you can shop yourself around. Exit strategy. Exit strategy. Exit strategy.
Management and HR tend to look after their own... unless they've seriously f...ed up. Better to leave - you never know when you might want a reference.
I could never imagine being this kind of a boss. To me, when my people win, everyone wins. I’m only 24 but anytime I’ve been able to lead, I always include anyone I can and make sure that people are playing to their strengths. I have no problem recognizing people and broadcasting their accomplishments. I am dealing with a potential manager now who shows a lot of these signs :(. It’s super discouraging to deal with already
How funny and powerful would it be if you presented this to all first graders - so children know that even their teachers are not that great - let alone getting ready for a life time worth of reality :)
@@RivasMichelle once you hand in your notice, it is not only subjected to be irrevocable, but also the desire to leave on fair/good terms rather than be fired. It's rarely irrevocable, because most big corporate companies will just look at you as a number. If you work for small company or a small business, and how well-liked you are they might plead with you not to leave and will give you whatever you want to stay (ea-better scheduling, pay raise, different role, promotion). Companies with a high turnover rate must be so proud of themselves...
I threatened to turn Department of Insurance on them. With another company I cleaned up a agency that was audited. I pulled out the biz card. Was between a rock & hard place-they knew I had the goods on them. I won in the short run, but they made it miserable for me.
All signs check-marked and experienced. Went from one extreme with a very supportive boss to the opposite after he retired and his insecure passive-aggressive underling became in charge. Full career blocker and avoided all kind of visibility for me. All suggested solutions other than the last one to mediate the issue did not work. Solution: I resigned and found a much better job in supportive environment, never looked back.
I only had my suspicions that my boss was undermining my work. From your video, I found that my boss's behavior matched ALL of the Signs that you have listed. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this video.
My boss is so unpleasant and backstabby that I’m done with being helpful and compassionate. I’m just leaving. She can’t do my work, and when I was out due to surgery it was a crapshow🤣🤣🤣.
It’s no mistake for me to come upon your channel. Last week I caught my boss talking into her office with the door closed. I was looking for my coworker to give them an update on an employee when I heard “we have to continue to hold Clarissa accountable” I then knocked on the door which was opened by my coworker who I was looking for. I have contemplated on talking to HR about this but truly fear retaliation. Later that evening my boss called and acted like nothing happened. I told her about what I over heard which she didn’t deny nor accepted what happened. I’m praying for God to show me how to deal with this situation because my boss should have never talked about me to my peers. Everything you said in this video pretty much is what she’s done. It’s a very toxic environment!😢
Another way to undermine you is to contact your clients/ people who worked with you and check with them about their experience in dealing with you. Telling them that you are just too young/ you have some communication problems so they as your boss make sure your clients are happy with you. How terrible is it? Suddenly the next time you meet your clients you sense that they don’t respect you as a professional, like they did in the previous meeting. You feel isolated because your clients are going to provide the feedbacks to your boss when he/ she asks. What can you do?
Thanks! even though the situations you describe may be a thing of the past it's a relief to know other people have experienced these type of things and that you were not just paranoid to think your boss was undermining you.
Undermining language. Haha. My boss would constantly treat me like I was 16 but make comments about how old I look (grey hair etc). It was VERY demeaning.
You have explained my current situation at work to the T. You know what is the actual problem with it!?!?! If you leave one company for another, it is a like jumping from the frying pan into the fire! Just give yourself some time and you will start reliving the same problems, the same injustice, you will face the same trauma. I had worked at many different places and sooner or later that abusive, gaslighter manager, boss or college will show up for you again and again and again and again until you are so tired of the same reality at work that you just look forward to retire for good eventually. And, yes... It is hardly ever about the actual work. It is almoust alway about that toxic work environment that kills one's passion for work and zest for life!!!! So sad!!!! For honest, modest, diligent people with good character and people of integrity there is not much od good working places where they are not going to be intimidate, manipulate, coerced and....
I'm working for an undermining boss and colleagues RIGHT NOW. It's causing me to be really unsure of myself and second guess myself constantly. I'm making mistakes. I get blamed when something isn't a success. I'm not included in meetings and lunches. I get the impression that people at work think I'm a complete imbecile. They like to point this out in front of customers. I've even had one customer offer to help out of the role and into another one. Luckily, I'm planning my exit before the holidays this year, pending some interviews and offers currently on the table. Hopefully I manage to depart gracefully.... because I really don't feel like being nice anymore. Very toxic environment.
There is a root cause to this type of toxic behaviour and if everyone leaves the company because of that one individual then the root cause will still exist and other employees will also fall victim to that same type of behaviour. This is one of the most unpleasant thing in the workplace so there has to be other strategies to deal with this other than to leave or move to a different department. Thanks for sharing your video it was informative.
Jennifer Brick: Thank you for your wonderful video. You deserve every success!!!! I would also like to point out that HR is considered by most businesses to be a "soft" budget item; employee relations departments are the very first to disappear during an economic downturn. I've worked in hospital human resources for most of my career (it's my day gig, my vocation is writing fiction) and when recessions hit, our departments are the first to be targeted. Funny (pathetic) story: When I worked for a large Twin Cities health care organization, the volunteer services coordinator--who was working unpaid--was "laid off" and the administration didn't bother to tell anybody. The department simply disappeared overnight and was never mentioned again. You can imagine. It was like living in a Kafka story.
Thank you for your videos and spot on. Lucky to have worked with a supportive and knowledgeable director but she unsurprisingly received a better offer elsewhere. Her replacement was an insecure micromanager who actually practiced many of what was mentioned. Majority of my coworkers and clients were delightful but I had to exit too.
There honestly needs to be better solutions for toxic bosses. Most have gone from job to job abusing people. I think there should be harder consequences placed on the HR team for not ensuring safe avenues to talking about this behavior. Then, when they are aware, taking appropriate action vs enabling the boss more!
My boss just doesn't care. As long as he goes by company policy, he's got nothing to worry about. All the little things and the details don't matter to him. He just wants to continue moving up as much as he can no matter how many people he leaves in the dust. And some people would say "who can blame him" but he does have choices.
When you get a power mad boss I just pity them, as they're obviously getting no attention and probably have no control elsewhere in their life. I couldn't think of anything more cringe worthy than being a manager that has to resort to bullying my employees because I'm no natural leader.
At last workplace I went above and beyond and asked when I wasn’t busy if there was something I could do. They would get annoyed. Then in less than two weeks after the two week hiring period they cut my hours to 12 a week and sent me home 2 hours early everyday on a four hour shift. I am now trying to move.
One time I confided in a boss and told them how I really felt that I felt like I don't get recognized for anything I do. I was told I had no reason to complain because my paycheck is my being recognized. 🤣
Usually they have a favorite member team (that is not you) and only this person is allowed to shine. Only this favorite is heard, and only his opinion has value.
Thank you so much for your advise Jennifer, I'm learning so much from your videos! Your advise it's so priceless and it has really help me when it comes to managing challenging situations at work.. thank you career bestie 🥰😇🤗
I have been working at the same school for 18 years and my 5th, yes 5th boss been micromanaging me even though I am the longest custodian there and he's only there for a little over two months. I was nearly twice quitting on the spot. But when I find that if I quit, I'd lose retirement benefits. So I suck with the job even though my boss drove me carzy. I defaulted to making my decision on how I do my job at my speed while still obeying him to tell me on what job to complete. Suddenly, he seem to lighten up a bit.
I'm here because I just caught my bosses talking about me behind my back. I entered the room and there was an awkward pause and I realised the "this generation is full of snowflakes" talk that was going on was about me. To be fair, I am a snowflake, but that's something I'm working on everyday on this job because it's my first real experience and I'm just now realising a lot of things. But also, it's a position I do by myself, there was NO training and none of my bosses or any of the collegues know my work. It's very overwhelming trying to learn all this by myself, overcome my anxiety and also have to excel at all of it in the first try. It's only been a month and I don't know what to do. Help
My bosses boss falsely accused me of having relationships with subordinates in a leadership meeting. Out of the blue. I was shocked and when I asked why she said she had email proof. Everyone in the room was looking at the floor. I asked if she would hand me this proof. She said, "are you calling me a liar". She didn't have anything. It was all made up. I filed me EEO complaint and was told "I just need to work on my relationship with her". This pandemic has kept me working at home for over year which has been good but it has also not been a good environment to find another job in. Things are opening up so I am sending out apps again.
Love your videos. This video is Exactly what happened to me as a professional. They ended up firing me. Sabotaged my name and had to relocate and leave my family. It was the absolute worst experience as I was open sharing and helping and supporting, they wanted me to be no part of the credit they gained from what I did.
I have a supervisor who only points my mistakes out in front of everyone at work but never points out others mistakes, he never gives me better and bigger tasks, he only give them to anyone he likes, and most of the time they just don’t care to do it, saying stuff like “I hate this job” or “I’m done with this BS” So would that mean he is undermining me and my abilities?
Sounds like jealousy. Definitely something he should pull to the side and say. I had a lead do this to me years ago she was press to move up in the company.

I had to revisit this video, ha. I trained someone else to do my job. I have a second and final interview for another job tomorrow. I truly hope I land it as it's a much better opportunity and an instant pay raise. I won't feel a shred of guilt leaving if that's the case.
I'm asking myself why I'm going throw a downward spiral at work again? I started my current job less than 6 months ago and there have been nothing except problems nearly everyday for most of 2021. Everything was fine for the first 3 months, and then it felt like my days were numbered, getting called out for every mistake I make, and just an overall atmosphere where it just becomes a shit show (ea-sick calls, mismanagement in my department, and the build up of favoritism and nepotism). However, the owner likes having me there and thinks highly of, but this doesn't promise me job security even though the owner has final authority on job hirings, firings, and other disciplinary actions. I'd like to see myself working there for the next year or so, but everything seems really unpredictable these days where employees are getting fired or let go out of nowhere regardless of performance. I've never been let go or even fired from a job in my entire life, but we're all bound to experience it for ourselves. I'm not concerned about being let go or fired and that's without cause by the way because I know I can have my job back within a week with the help of the labour board and other resources.
I'm leaving a company because of management undermining issues that have setback my career path and potential for growth. I have an exit interview in about a week in my last day. I'm concerned about being honest in that exit interview for fear that it will be used against me in the future. I'm thinking of declining the exit interview.
100%… I’m currently dealing with two toxic bosses feeding off each other. I’ve been with this institution for almost 10 years and had several rotation of leaderships. I’ve been trying hard for years to become a project manager, but my current bosses are pigeonholing from making any sort of advancements so that I remain in an Admin Role. It’s F* up and I’m tired of being undermined. I hope karma bites them in the ass for all the pain they’ve caused on all these employees
I have a boss right now that's trying to keep me from doing my job right. Literally ordering me to push things off to the next crew so it doesn't affect his numbers. It's causing my other coworkers to lash out at me in frustration, I actually blocked one of them because he wouldn't believe me. I've worked there 8 years and never had a problem. 🤦♀️
most managers only care about one thing, thats their own chair, nothing else and it has nothing to do with care actually, its what any typical control freak would do
I had a very bad experience with an undermining manager before. I dreaded going to work everyday because of her. If you have a boss like that, it would be impossible to get a good feedback no matter how you do your best to improve. Sad to say, even if it was my dream company, I decided to leave and join a company that would value me more. I’m very happy where I am now.
An example is sending something to the leader for approval and she just sends it back saying to proofread it. She won't tell you what she doesnt like or where to look then complain and talk about you with another leader.
Jobs aren't the problem, most the time people are the problem. And in my experience the better skilled you are, the more senior staff will target you.

Yeah you escaped, since it has been 11 months in your new job. I trust it is an improvement?
Hard work, good work, and loyalty do not guarantee success. Bosses often have who they want to advance in mind. Sometimes their choices are not better workers, they are just people the boss feels more comfortable with or who are more like them. You boss may like you and your work, yet won't advance you. If that happens, it is time to find another job, if you want to advance.
Yes! Very well said!
True
Yes, indeed. Bosses always promote people who 1/ Are not more clever than they are, 2. The most nasty people with law competences who are ready to everything for them like for example mobbing.
@@agnieszkajezyk-chlebowska9274o00ppp
Absolutely spot on. The boss has their favourites - whether they realise it or not.
Another would be dismissing your ideas.
Plus playing favourites!
Went through this. Some people shouldn’t go into management. I think some people have control issues as well.
Precisely & individuals that are power hungry
I had an undermining boss. It stressed me out. I was blamed for other people's mistakes. I no longer work for the company
Exactly
Its sad because you look up to senior management in the beginning only to eventually discover that it was all a facade to sabotage your success and undermine your value. Its a perpetual cycle of narcissism in the workplace and I’m seriously considering my exit strategy soon meanwhile I’m just getting started. 🙄😭
It's even worst when a co-worker undermines you, pointing every single mistake, because they think they are perfect.
I have a supervisor like at the moment. She loves to point out everyones mistakes. The day she questioned me about going on a break.I work hard and always get my work done.I was entitled to the last break I took.I got sick of it and went above her head.
Yes, this does happen in many professional setting.
One way some people show off "superiority" is by just showing others as "inferior"
In our office we have C. All of the above
Now take this an add another coworker to the group and it’s high school all over again and it’s coworkers in their mid 40s and early 50s and since I’m 34 an don’t play politics an don’t bow dow to their egos they think I’ll just quit
So important to identify when this is happening. Blaming you for mistakes and sabotaging is horrible leadership.
Agree with you 💯💯💯 - it is horrible leadership.
Horrible leadership is everywhere
How do you even explain this to the department of labor? I never filed for compensation
I said, "I've been doing this job for 2 yrs without your help, do you think I need you to come over here and tell me to do my job?"
He hasn't done that since.
I have worked under a lot of undermining bosses, but I didn't know how to deal with them. Thank you so much for sharing useful tips.
Glad I could help, Yukio!
Leave! You will never change them. Period. Put your energy and talents to a business that will appreciate you!
Would you believe I've left and they stalked and followed me? I've left multiple times yet they keep saying "just let it go," and "leave." They should take their own advice.
Agreed
Unfortunately you are right
Some bosses have their mindset made up already.
I've dealt with this. Once I'm in shut down mode, I start to respond slow, less & less, or not at all.
I stand my ground 💯 percent if you let them push you around you are teaching them how to treat you..The TRUTH will set you FREE
Retiring and *letting go* is a hard process. Sucks he took it out on you by undermining you.
Many people love to be in control of others... it's a power game.
The thing is... they might not be the boss at home.
That explains why they’re so extra nasty at work
I had a recent toxic boss who undermined everything I did.
@@MoradoGurl213 i can relate except mine was a passive aggressive envious coworker who thought she was the boss. she even tried to sabotage me to HR.
I think when you can’t do right for wrong, and the boss is picky, they are toxic and undermining you
Agree.
In order to understand management and companies in general you need to understand the “dark triad” which is Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and psychopathy. My previous boss told me this though not in these exact words.
I don't entirely agree, though these issues absolutely arise in the workplace as they do in the general population.
Wow. I had a similar experience
I once had a manager who would tell me that my ideas were unworkable. The following day those unworkable ideas "became" hers.
Same. She claims my ideas as her own after rejecting them. "How about we do (fill in the blank)?" (That was my idea, and you stole it!)
When there is an undermining job... the best thing to do is get out of it!!! And fast !!!
It’s funny of how all these issues in the office/workplace have to do deal with how people behave with one another
Humans not being great at humaning is the general description 🙃
It sucks that you want to avoid conflict and just be yourself as a good human being, but bullies want to drag you into conflict and drama...it is part of their agenda to undermine you and break you down...they want to see you upset, mad, frustrated and they will do things to irritate you, yet they won’t do it to the people they know in the clique environment
Unfortunately most workplaces are not autistic friendly either...they will plain up take advantage of a person with autism and it’s like a meal to these bullies that undermine others
A lot of people are promoted into management who shouldn't be.
I HATE that! Every boss should be able to say hello and goodbye.
you are 100% correct..i have an insecure ,narcisist deli manger..who is feeling his age and memory ..and blames his mistakes on me..and publically makes me look like shit ..when im the one saving his job..i dont hold back , i call him out on his bullshit every time..and with humor..so he knowes ..im not such an easy mark..
The best way is to take your PTO bc almost all jobs have people like this.
leave

They are mean on purpose! They are evil!
Your videos are my therapy.
If you get an undermining boss, go over their head and complain to their boss, and if this doesn't work, quit!
Going over their head can be delicate. People should consider their corporate structure, retaliation and likelihood of efficacy.
@@realSimoneCherie Sounds good to me!
Management and HR tend to look after their own... unless they've seriously f...ed up.
Better to leave - you never know when you might want a reference.
How about YELLING at you in a client meeting -- after you did exactly what they asked for? I quit the same day.
"When my people win, everyone wins". This, I wish everybody knew this. Too many people are just out for themselves.

How funny and powerful would it be if you presented this to all first graders - so children know that even their teachers are not that great - let alone getting ready for a life time worth of reality :)
Have you worked with an undermining boss or coworker? How did you deal?
I gave in my month’s notice to be “fair”. But I feel so much better knowing I won’t be there for long.
You can see through my chest from all the back stabbings I’ve gotten!
in one ear and out the other, calmly walk away, ignore the non-sense, and business as usual attitude.
I cannot tell you how much this all relates. Thank you for this video.
Thanks, that is exactly what I did last week, got myself a new job 🙏👍
Also, spent the morning running cables... very mundane stuff.
I know how this feels. Hope you got a new opportunity and doing much better
Yes! Thank you, I really needed to hear this today before going into work
There is a root cause to this type of toxic behaviour and if everyone leaves the company because of that one individual then the root cause will still exist and other employees will also fall victim to that same type of behaviour.
Management has ALOT to answer for in companies and in from my own experiences many of my former bosses should never be in management.
Spot on! And some very great advice.
Hope it helped!
You know. This country’s work culture has become horrible. That’s why I’m about zero tolerance on harassment. I also don’t harass others.
My boss is racist and discriminating.
Your my new career bestie
Yay!!!
I have a supervisor who only points my mistakes out in front of everyone at work but never points out others mistakes, he never gives me better and bigger tasks, he only give them to anyone he likes, and most of the time they just don’t care to do it, saying stuff like “I hate this job” or “I’m done with this BS”
So would that mean he is undermining me and my abilities?
Sounds like jealousy. Definitely something he should pull to the side and say. I had a lead do this to me years ago she was press to move up in the company.

EVERYTHING SHE SAID IS HAPPENING TO ME
I'm so sorry friend 🙁
My line manager hits all the points. Pity that some are allowed to slander and get away with such behaviour
Thank you Jennifer, very useful tip👍😊
most managers only care about one thing, thats their own chair, nothing else and it has nothing to do with care actually, its what any typical control freak would do
I had a very bad experience with an undermining manager before.
She won't tell you what she doesnt like or where to look then complain and talk about you with another leader.
seen all of these, made previous comment in another video of yours, but spot on.
This is what I go through for over 4 years now.
when you have to manage your manager
I already reported it. 30 weeks since I had a paycheck.
Relatable. Sadly..
Didn't expect to see myself in the boss
