My big advice after 10+ years of ultra marathons (and Nick did a reasonable job of this here) is contrary to what you may think - YOU (the runner) are there to support your crew way more than they support you. They are constantly living on pins and needles (do we have the right stuff, how is he feeling? etc). You can get wrapped up in what you are doing but remember, YOU chose to be there and they are taking a day out of their life to help you. When you come into those pits you need to be smiling ear to ear baby! All positive. You could be bleeding out of every part of your body but it's all smiles. In fact, you are smiling when you ask them to take you to the hospital. If you need a cry you do that out on the course when you are all alone. When you come through the pits you don't complain, you don't get negative, you don't do any of that. You can tell your crew what you need or want etc. but you do it with a smile and you are loving life. They deserve that!!
never raced with a crew, but if I ever do they are gonna be my bitches! just kidding, it is always important to smile and thank the aid station volunteers too no matter how bad you feel 👍
This may be the worst advice I’ve ever seen. “Hey bud, I know I twisted the crap out of my ankle and it hurts to breathe, but boy oh boy do I not get to live in my moment because making you feel special is 10,000 times more important”. Don’t be stupid. You can celebrate and appreciate your team after the event. They understand what their role is. If they don’t, you’ve prepared poorly or they’re the wrong people.
Because of you nick bare and your Leadville video, I signed up for my first ultra! I did a 6 hour race today in California, only did 21 miles, but for a big dude @ 275, I didn’t give up! I was the biggest dude out there, I didn’t care, I got goals! It was the furthest and longest I’ve ever been on my feet! Thanks bpn for helping me go one more! #100

"An ultra for me is like this self intervention, and when I started the race, I was thinking about the end of the race. I was thinking about mile 80,99, 100. And it dawned on me, like what the fck I'm doing, why I am thinking hours from now, why I aren't focusing the mile I'm in. And I started to reflecting. Maybe I'm always looking at the next thing, I'm not able to actually enjoy and live and learn from the present. That's what I am taking away from these first 45 mile, it doesn't matter if it is a race if it's a milestone in life in business, with your friends, your family. Be present, enjoy the process because you are going to learn from that process and that experience, and don't always keep looking for the next thing. Be hyper focused where you are right now. Thinking ahead drives me crazy sometimes. Running and just focusing on breathing and putting one foot in front of the other is hard, but once you do it. It’s almost like my head is on a cloud. Nothing matters, as if I’m meditating. I don’t know how to meditate but this is my closest to attempting.
Oof... so glad I saw this. I've got a training marathon tomorrow, preparing for my first 100k in a month. I'm literally already done with the race in my mind, like it's a hurdle that has to be completed instead of a fun day in the woods with cool people, improving myself.
Great lessons, Nick! Yes to doing something that's a challenge, not something you know you can accomplish. At 51 I did my first 100mi on as little training as I could get away with due to having two small children and lots of chronic injuries. That was last year. This year, I did the rim-to-rim-to-rim of the Grand Canyon at 52 on the same chronically under-mileage training plan, but got it done. This spring trying for a good showing in my age group in a couple of half marathons. Still getting it done despite family obligations, work and a lifetime of pushing this old body. It's all about being in this moment and never resting on the laurels of previous accomplishments.
This is exactly what I felt on my first 100 last year. I did not really know how to put it into words but Nick does such a great job of explaining it in a way that will impact and stay with people. Amazing video!
Great job Nick and entire BPN team. I have ran a couple miles over the last few weeks after years off and your videos have been a source of reinforcement. When everything hurts and I want to stop, my measly few miles pales in comparison to 100 and I know I have it in me to keep going.
My husband is my crew too... he often "adopts" the crewless runners I hook up with in the race, so that they can have support too. I've learned though, it's not his passion, it's mine, so I limit him crewing to the most difficult races, so I don't burn him out. Shout out to the supportive partners out there!

This was on another level physically and a whole different level content wise! Thanks Nick for bringing us along the journey as you ventured through each mile of this race. This inspires and drives me to run this one day 🙌🏼 or to challenge myself physically that very few will do themselves.
Yeah I sprained my ankle yesterday trail running in Fairmont Park and it was everything I could do to come down out of the hills without crawling. I can't imagine running 70+ miles on it after.
Get it brother! I really enjoy your video content. You are an inspiration, an encouragement and just a surge of productive energy. Your content really fuels me to keep pushing. God bless you and ur movement💪💪💪💪
Most ultra runners physically look like regular people who workout then you have Nick Bare absolutely yoked running these ultra marathons. You would expect him to be slow because of all his muscles but he is actually fast af running 100miles threw the woods in under 24 hours what a beast.
@@nomaderic ya I know but regardless of supplements it takes a ton of work to build and maintain that muscle while being a ultra runner, even without "supplements" if he trained and ate the way he does I'm sure he would still be jacked mabey just 170lbs and a little more body fat but still jacked and shredded I don't hold the use of certain things against people it's not like he takes it to crush everyone at running I'm guessing he takes it more for the look.

Great video once again Nick. Love the footage and commentary
I have so much respect for you Nick. You inspire me to keep running and improving myself
The world needs more of this people are awesome! Love your honesty and integrity- people like you make us all strive for more 👍 thank you guys 😜
dude isn't even your ideal long distance runner, i means the guy is JACKED. Great work.
Great video Nick!! Keep them coming!
Training for a swat school and I’m using your template as my cardio foundation. Really appreciate your content man.
The backing music is unbelievable!
Well done nick!
I started making workout music, take a look. Thanks anyway!💪🏻💪🏻
As Rogan said on the Nims pc. It’s people like you, Goggins, Hanes, Nims… who truly inspire, because ur doing. Money where ur mouth is. Going to do my second Olympic triathlon in May. This one is a bit diff due to having a second kid/infant in the house again. The mentality to keep consistently choosing hard things, that’s what develops growth. Well said. Thanks.
Awesome video Nick! Like the different loop setup. Also cool to see your wife looking so proud at you :) That's what real work does, makes familie and Friends proud aswell :)
This was amazing. Like a well written paper that had perfectly Illustrated images and footage to capture the moments. You feel like you are there with you. Learning a life lesson. Reflecting into our own thoughts and commitments. Learning what self reflection feels like in your eyes. A true masterpiece. Your film/editing crew is one of a kind and their creativity keeps getting better and better. Thanks for the inspiration!
the videographer who made this is amazing
Love this dude! I’m doing my first 100 miler later this summer and I’m terrified…but that’s why I’m doing it.
I started making workout music, take a look. Thanks anyway!
Good luck💪🏻
I ran 100 miles one time in 19 hours flat, only to find Nick Bare already at the finish line seeing how many times he could rep 225
💯❤👍💪
Nick, thanks for this man, run to this video every morning thanks for being my running partner 👊🏽
Keep up the work man, you’re an inspiration.
I started making workout music, take a look. Thanks anyway!💪🏻
Oh my god, I’ve been wondering if you would have that realization at some point, specially before the birth of your daughter, about the present. It’s all about balance! Kudos to you.
This was on another level physically and a whole different level content wise! Thanks Nick for bringing us along the journey as you ventured through each mile of this race. This inspires and drives me to run this one day 🙌🏼 or to challenge myself physically that very few will do themselves.
Soo ready for this!
The standard of running videos just got higher! So good!
Yeah I sprained my ankle yesterday trail running in Fairmont Park and it was everything I could do to come down out of the hills without crawling. I can't imagine running 70+ miles on it after.
Started Couch 2 5 K today, have not been running at all. I will run an ultra marathon by the end of 2024.
How's it going?
@@Kelly_Ben bad.
I really enjoyed this video, especially the insights/section about growth!! :)
Awesome video man Thx for sharing. Just the motivation I need to start my tri seasom..
This has to get more views! Thanks for this video
So many lessons always learned. “Be hyperfocused, where you are, right now!” 💯
Get it brother! I really enjoy your video content. You are an inspiration, an encouragement and just a surge of productive energy.
Your content really fuels me to keep pushing. God bless you and ur movement💪💪💪💪
This dude is impressing. He dosent have a runners body at all. He is build like a tank. So much more weight than ordinary runners
Great job man, very inspiring, thanks for sharing
Something about 100 mile run is the create epiphanies you said hyper Focus where you're at right now that really hit home thank you
Most ultra runners physically look like regular people who workout then you have Nick Bare absolutely yoked running these ultra marathons. You would expect him to be slow because of all his muscles but he is actually fast af running 100miles threw the woods in under 24 hours what a beast.
There's a reason for that. I'm sure you know the answer
@@CB-rk1qc oh no doubt nicks the man...he bust his ass like nobody I know
