probably the best simple/non-specific sculptris vid I've found yet. certainly the best overview of the tools, how they work, and practical applications.
Thank you so much for this MUCH NEEDED video. There are so few that have chosen to take a walk through one tool at a time. This greatly need for all tuts THX :]
super duper tutorial. Quick question: when brush detailing, is it possible to adjust the imprint size and rotation before committing? In blender, you have the option to hold down the right mouse button and rotate/scale the pattern before letting go and committing, which is incredibly useful.
@zume my pleasure, i was doing the very same not to long ago, i was a bit overwhelmed with zbrush's power even though id been playing with it since zbrush 3. but after getting comfortable with digital sculpting in Sculptris i was eager to take advantage of zbrush's potential.
Thank you for this video, nicely done and easy to follow along. any chance of you making any more video's with Sculptris if so I'll be in the front row till then, all the best to you Pierre. Thx Agin Lou
I just got this program and I've been playing around, but every now and then those white lines at 11:08 will show up and no matter what I do they wont go away, I assume they are for creating a new object, but they always pop up without me even clicking anything and it drives me nuts. Anyone know what to press to turn them off, I'd appreciate it.
when you say SELECT, and u pick GRAB TOOL how do you actually select the tooth? Cause i click on the area i want to select which happens to be a tooth as well and it doesn't select it. Is there a specific key to SELECT using the grab button?
Hm I don't know how to get that circular brush menu and masking doesn't seem to do anything for me, although I can see that it is at least adding more polygons when in wireframe mode.
great tut. Blew me away how you just stamped a screw head onto the model (kinda reminds me of how, back in the day, people used the terrain editor in Bryce to make crude "models"). Someone asked how you get brushes. The brushes appear to simply be alpha masks, so I'm guessing you make your own in photoshop...that's what I'm gonna try right now. Thank you.
Pierre Rogers Excellent. I did try a few of my own, but yours are better. BTW, I saw some of your sculpts on the zbrush forum and OMG, you are a monster.
Question how does one sculpt on just one side of the clay without affect the other side? I notice the sculpting does both at the same time. How would I have it set so I could just apply to one area I am sculpting prior going back to the double sides again (I don't know what you call it) method. If I only want one section how would I avoid doing that? Then when I'm done go back to that setting of sculpting both sides?
Working with it is very laggy although I have a quad core 3.6 processor and 8GB RAM, how do I allocate more memorry to it? Also how can I add new brushes and where do I find them?
Unfortunately there aren't any options to do so, sculptris is a great little app, with limitations, all you can do at this point is pray pixologic releases a new version, and or move on to another app, zbrush,3D coat
Keep in mind it is possible your GPU isn't strong enough... I have a 8 core 4GHz & 8GB RAM and it works perfectly for me. and I don't think it would even need remotely as much CPU power as I have.
kutkuknight I also lagged, what I did was, I have Nvidia and I have this app called NvidiaInspector, and added Sculptris to the Cuda profile, I wasn't sure if it would remove lagg, but it did.
My material setting is supposed to be normal (its on default), but i can only see character with it in wireframe. otherwise, my circle is a plain grey circle with no light or shadow. help?
simply perform steps after 5:40 of vid, by using the "reduce" brush to remove polys, then smooth, continue this process till you have removed unwanted area
+Riccardo Barelli thanx, smooth is similar to melting an area, and flatten is similar to shaving down an area or polishing an area to get an flatish smoothness
I actually tried to play around on my own before watcNice tutorialng tNice tutorials and finally knowing what many of the buttons I randomly clicked on an is
quickest way to undo is hit Ctrl+Z (or you can turn on "Tablet Navigation" in options, placing a virtual undo button in the bottom left corner of the screen).
i've been using sculptris for some time and figured out you cant compare it to zbrush, zbrush is better program for sculpting. Sculptris is quick sculpting software made for begginers

yes indeed, after applying a alpha to your brush in sculptris, you have to ability to rotate the alpha prior to making a stroke.

mjolnir.is.a.tool simply clear your mask, or select move tool and click on a different piece of geometry.

Okay, but how do you get the BRUSHES to work? I can't figure it out at all.
For some reason, my mac doesn't show the blackness of the Mask tool whenever I attempt to mask something. Help, please!
make sure invert is unchecked on your mask tool
Yeah, thanks man.
I NEED BRUSHES O_O HOW DO I GET THEM! ?
My material setting is supposed to be normal (its on default), but i can only see character with it in wireframe. otherwise, my circle is a plain grey circle with no light or shadow. help?

simply perform steps after 5:40 of vid, by using the "reduce" brush to remove polys, then smooth, continue this process till you have removed unwanted area
Turn off symmetry

i know right mine doesnt work either and i cant figure out how to solve this aaaagh
hi, nice vid! I kinda don't get the difference between smooth and flatten, aren't the same?
