  • Unfortunately, I almost ruined my holiday pics even though I was using the perfect travel film camera. I took the Minox 35gt to Perast in Montenegro.

ALWAYS try the camera gear before you go on holiday ! I have not used analog cameras since 2007 and I do not like the all the chemicals that pollutes ! I used the Minox 35 ML a a candid "street" photography camera, but when I wanted the best quality I used the Leica Minilux which have the best ever Lens on a compact analog camera.

As an ex- camera technician, I’d recommend you to buy an Olympus XA or XA-2. The Minox 35’s are basically a shite camera with a decent lens. I carry a Minox subminiature camera, loaded with ADOX HR-50, all of the time.

in personal experience the minoxes with the LR44 batteries under expose by 2/3 stops, i just set the ISO in the camera considerring that

Oooooh good to know! I finally just got a battery for my Minox and will definitely keep this in mind when I put my first roll through it.

I really like these cameras, are portable and super sharp. But the shutter is quite delicated. Understanding your performance on camera, seems that the two bolts that are on the back of the camera went moved. This means that the film lever does not clock the shutter, in that way, sometimes the shutter does not open totally, try to shoot and look the shutter... If you don't see it opening it may be this issue. And it is very easy to fix 🎉

    Maybe a sticky shutter?
A camera that's been stored a long time, might just need some gentle use prior to putting a film.through it
The ones that were exposed turned out ok.

Oh man, how tragic! Nothing worse then pulling a roll out of the tank and seeing pus.
RUclips recommended you, I enjoyed the video and your humour!!

Sorry to say this, but what happened is not uncommon. Modern electronics and German perfection did (don’t) mingle. I had several Minoxes and I loved them. The first one I bought when it had just come out as their latest model. It lasted for several years. Then troubles with the shutter. Could not be repaired. I bought several second hand ones after that, and sooner or later, the shutter gives up. You find out when the film has been developed. From what I found out, this a basic flaw. Such a pity, but no more Minox for me, especially because you don’t notice when taking shots.

i love my 35gt. it hasn't failed me yet, but i know that given its age it is only a matter of time. hopefully it will continue to provide a wonderful experience until i can get my hands on a rollei 35s in good shape that won't cost me a limb or an organ =-)

Nothing wrong with the shutter. You have 4 LR44 batteries stacked in there, which give 6V, original mercury battery was 5.6V. The voltage difference is enough to make the camera underexpose by 3 stops. The lowest ISO you can select on the camera is 25, which you have to choose with ISO 200 film (makes ISO 200 film the slowest film you can use in this camera.)

How do you know the voltage to stop ratio? I feel like 3 stops wouldn't count for some of those frames, you would still see the highlights in the pictures.
