  • Review of the Minox 35 GT.
Since the publication of my book "Photography: The F Manual", I received many questions about the best film and digital equipment to use, so I decided to start with review of the camera, lenses and accessories I use.

I have one as well as the earlier 35EL. The 35EL had the shutter failing - it would often stick open and only close when I advance the film.
I need to remember where I put it and maybe try it out again if it still works after twenty years since I last used it.
It was a great camera. I liked it because it was so compact yet shot 35mm film and had extraordinary image quality. At the time I also used to shoot black & white and develop/print them myself.
The exposure meter is technically very primitive but somehow works extraordinarily well.
In the odd occasion where I wanted more than one stop over exposure, or I wanted underexposure I would just change the ISO setting to fool the camera into thinking it has a more or less sensitive film.

You will have some fun using it again. It's really a nice camera to have always in a pocket.

Why would the 2x switch enable me to use 1600 iso film? If the switch doubles my exposure time, and I shoot 1600 film at 800, my image would be even more over exposed, no?

Yep, it was my mistake, read Matt Davis comment below.

just stick together some lr44. There is even a plastic adapter,at least my camera has one.

@@Iyanrach It's 4 of them, just checked. The adapter is basically a plastic pipe so the batteries are kept together.
I was checking and I'm pretty sure the adapter was original from Minox and came with the camera.

Great video! There is no way of shooting at 1600 though. If you set the iso dial to 800 and used the 2X button you’d effectively be shooting at 400.

@@LuigiBarbano Just ordered one on the internet. There are two versions of the 35 GT, one that goes to 800 iso and a newer one (without model change) that goes to iso 1600!
And both are 35 GT, I am not talking of the 35 GT-E (that also goes to 1600)

Stay away from Minox. The battery problem was never solved and the electronics are inferior. The Minox was the camera for phony people. Invest your money in a Nikon, Pentax, or similar. Yes, they are bulky and heavy for the home office generation of today ... but a little bit of workout does not harm.

    • @LuigiBarbano
      @LuigiBarbano  3 года назад +9

I used it as a pocket camera and never had problems. For sure is not comparable to a full size camera, but as a pocket camera is quite nice.
Not many options with that size.
Workout is good but not 24 hours a day ;)
