Really new to 3D printing and just came across this excellent video. Really learned a lot in a short time. I do have one question that I can not find an answer for: Is there a way to trim excess pieces from an object? I'm trying to trim edges from my design but can't find any other way than to spend lots of time cutting it up with tiny hole pieces. For instance: imagine a cookie cutter in the shape of a random flower with a 1 or 2 millimeter edge. I want to spread a thin banner across the entire cookie cutter to add text to it but in order for this rectangle banner to touch the edges there are lots of little pieces hanging over the edge of the flower with weird edges that are hard to get rid of. I definitely don't want to print the overhangs but can't find a way to erase or trim them. Thanks for any help you or your followers can offer but either way, you still have great videos. Cheers
Hey, I appreciate you watching! If you're asking what I think you're asking, I went ahead and made a quick video for you. This is one of the ways I get a thicker ring around the outside of cookie cutters. Hope this helps! I will pin your comment in case someone else has a better or different way they want to share. ruclips.net/video/l5gHoL8Qxxs/видео.html
@@Avel Thank you so much for making that video. I really appreciate it and the work you put into it. My issue isn't making the handle wider as we've actually reduced the size from previous cutters. I'm happy with the width of my handle but it doesn't allow me to add a rectanglular banner without unwanted overhang. I've added a banner across the cutter but because of all the rounded edges it's a pain to use the hole objects to trim the parts that overhang when placing the banner. There may not be an option for this other than to transfer it into Fusion to trim but I like using TinkerCad and hoping there is a solution. I've tried to add a couple photos to help show my dilema but I'm not sure how to do that on this medium. Thanks again and have a great day. Cheers Brent

Thanks for the informative video! Just wanted to clarify that for the rounded corners on the box, the reason is because when you use the dimensions/scale boxes on the shape itself, the box is being stretched, so any radius applied to it will be stretched too. When you use the sliders in the shape parameters box, you are actually changing the properties of the primitive shape and that's why any radius applied looks proper, because it's not being stretched and distorted.
Great video!!! Loved the big words for shapes! You are very good at voice over! Keep them coming. I am learning to build dollhouse furniture and it’s a beast of a job.
Thank you :) That's awesome! I was watching some videos the other day of people printing furniture for doll houses and realism photos. Pretty neat stuff.
Three years out now and this video probably saved me that much time in just trying things out to figure them out, especially things like the rotation locking inside the circle but not out or or rounded edges thing. I NEVER would've been able to figure that out. Amazing stuff :D
Got gifted a printer today. I learned more on your channel in 30 mins , then I have all day on YT. Instantly subscribed! Looking forward to learning more for you.
I have watched alot of tinkercad videos on RUclips and thought I learned a thing or two but your video just showed me I don't know shit lol. Almost everything you just show us a had no clue about even though I have watched the learn how to tinker videos lol. You got a thumbs up from me and I'm saving this video to watch again when I need it. Thanks
@5:17 - Thank you for sharing, this has been bugging me. I noticed that in your first object that LxW didn't match what you set it to when selected. Glad to see a way this works as expected!
excellent video i use SketchUp for design but is little hard for kids, i am so glad i find your tutorial you are good instructor. now i can teach my daughter.👍 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I know this is from 2021, and I've been doing 3D stuff for me, myself, and I for the past 3 to 4 years, stepped in and out of Tinker for different things. These tips are quite useful as I didn't pay attention and didn't know there was a manual to read. This kinda stuff, I rather enjoy just jumping in.
Great video! I'm like you, I like to just jump right in (hence my username) but I'm finally at a point where I want to get serious about Tinkercad. It's constantly getting new features and is so popular I can always find a video lesson for what I want. This was a great jumping off point, especially explaining all the buttons. Thanks so much!
woa! I would have never guessed that about the radius parameter. I assumed both methods were the same... they sucked! But using the parameter menu is perfect!! = thanks!
The projects are saved automatically, so when I make a shape that I know I'm going to use a lot, I just make a duplicate of it and keep it off to the side as the "original". Also, if you want to use it in a different project, you can grab it and click the copy icon at the top left and then paste it into your other project. Hope this helps!
The limitation I have with Tinkercad compared to OnShape is measuring to put in objects. With OnShape you can measure and put a hole where you want it. With Tinkercad it's not so precise. Am I missing something?
Hey, sorry for the delayed reply! I didn't get a notification for this comment. If you highlight the shape you want to move, just hold the Control key and press the up or down arrows.
I'm still wondering how to use select and just copy a small part of a design and repaste it. I don't want to copy entire objects. Just a section. Like say a fingertip and nail instead of the whole finger.
I actually looked into it. A few years ago, they said it was something they were working on, but so far, nothing has come of it.. Wonder what happened.
They have changed the shapes menu around since I made this video. To my knowledge, all the same shapes are there, they just moved them to different categories. Why they felt the need to 'fix' something that wasn't broken is beyond me. 🤷♂️
I think I just broke the plane into nerdville. I’ve had glasses for decades but I have just been armed with nerdifying information. Welp, I guess I better research the star wars universe so I can blend in. Jk y’all but thanks for the tips
A little hard to follow because of the small mouse cursor you use. Mine is a big yellow one and I've seen others that have a big yellow circle with the mouse.pointer. You go quick which is okay but I find myself repeating the action so I can see where the mouse is. Good vocalization. Music is unnecessary but this is not as annoying as others, so I would say okay.
Why is there no video showing you how to print the thing you just made... It's awesome to make a beautiful design and then what are you supposed to do with it... Is it some big secret that nobody talks about
I guess I could've explained a little better at 2:58 So, the center dots on either side will make it center. To make something perfectly center, like I did with the cone and cylinder, you would click the center dot on two sides. That will align it center front and back, and center side to side. The outside dots will align to the outside in the same way.
@@Avel thank you. I started clicking dots and got it. Made me two different counter sinkers and saved to my creations. It’s always there when I need it. I made hinges to put in flat animal shapes and saved them too.
Wow, I am learning so much watching your videos. There are times you talk a little too fast and I have to watch it two or three times. The music you play behind your narration is very distracting and making it hard to listen to the instructions and I suggest not using it for future video. I'm 60 years old and just getting into CAD and my old ears can only focus/absorb one level of sound! Thanks for creating the video. I'm creating an item for my R2D2 Droid sound system and four tricks you showed in this video will definitely help me design my item.

That’s because there are many different people in the world
It’s because about 40% of us learn by reading and 40% learning by doing. The balance learn by other methods or combinations of the two. 😊
