  • I wanted to show you my airbrush set up in real time from paint mixing to cleaning and changing the needle. You can purchase the airbrush at Amazon. See the link below. You can find several spray booths like mine on Amazon or eBay as my booth by Testors is no longer made. The compressor is a generic from Amazon and cost around $80.

    Many thanks. After viewing your videos, I purchased the Creos PS289. It is outstanding in all respects. I have a Tamiya 0.2mm and H&S Evolution 0.4mm airbrushes that I was never comfortable with using. The Mr Hobby airbrush has me back at the hobby spray booth again at age 72.

    Videos like these are sheer gold - back in the day, there's no way anyone could access such inof on a hobby like this with such a small community at the time, and - even if they could - without wasting a ton of cash & effort for little return (or facing the fear to upgrade to an airbrush). That and the quality and availability of high quality products ... AND I hear Henry Cavill is a fellow hobbyist ... Covid aside, we live in enlightened times!! Thanks for your uploads!

    I am 75 years old and new to spray brushing. I figured since I am retiring soon. I am in to model trains and want to spray paint my scratch built houses. A friend said that my spray brushing has gotten better who taught me. I told him that it was just from watching (Barbados Rex) RUclips videos. You have become my instructor and thanks to your channel it makes me better.

    Nice video and nice setup. I'd recommend not pulling the needle out the back when tearing down the brush for cleaning. Any paint left on the needle is being dragged through the rear of the brush. Remove the nozzle then push out through the front.
    Also, keep a close eye on those tiny nozzles. Drop one on the floor and it's like it fell into a black hole!! I've lost track of how often I've spent 20 minutes crawling around on the floor of my garage to find a dropped nozzle. I make a habit now of holding the airbrush way back over the middle of the bench so if I fumble it, tiny parts will fall on the bench and hopefully not disappear onto the floor.
    I love the little pressure regulator on the smaller airbrush. What a great idea. I see that you can buy small ones that fit in-line in the air-hose if your airbrush doesn't come with one. May have to invest in a couple of those for my primary brushes. I have about 5 or 6 different brushes and I bought a rotary manifold that has a single hose leading from the compressor and can run 8 separate airlines for multiple brushes. Because you're only using one brush at a time, it maintains pressure, and it saves having to swap hoses (though the quick release couplings do make that a lot easier). Best part is it has separate stands for all the brushes so I can have multiple different brushes, all hooked up and ready to go, and all with their own stand.
    Digging your use of the dropper for cleaning as well. Squirting the cleaner in and out of the brush looks a lot more efficient than just running the cleaner through several times and occasionally backwashing. Definitely going to give that a go!!
    Really enjoying your videos!!

      some, like the Badger 105 i just got has a big knob thing on the back of the needle so you have to pull it out, stick it in (lol) the rear...lol... it's sketchy but just gotta be careful and shoot some extra cleaner down thru

    The Procon boy airbrushes are my choice for airbrushes now. I have 2, one (.2 mm nozzle) for acrylics and one (.3mm) for primers and lacquers and other "hot" thinned paints. I also have a Harder and Steenbeck Infinity CR+ (1.5 mm) that I only use when doing really fine lines, and an older Iwata Eclipse HP-CS that I never use anymore. I think the Procon boy must be made in the Iwata factory as they are almost identical. I love the Procon boys have larger paint cups and paint flow valve up the front of the brush. They are very easy to clean and hard to do wrong.

    I like the one with trigger seems like it would be handy for priming and big kits. I like the harder and steenbeck evolution silverline because the tip is alot easier to handle because of the size and because I got big fingers. I started with Neo from Iwata and it had the small tip and I spent most of the time looking for it on the floor when I cleaned it. With the harder and steenbeck evolution silverline you will never loose the tip and there cleaning kit is amazing when working with difficult paints. I payed 155$ Canadian for the .2 harder and steenbeck evolution.

    Have you ever had a problem with spontaneous combustion ? With all the paper towels having Thinner and Acetone on them . Very informative videos I'm really learning alot your a great Instructor . Thanks

    • @ColonelSandersLite
      @ColonelSandersLite 3 года назад +3

      Lacquer thinner and acetone don't actually have that problem. Though they can certainly add fuel to something that is on fire and the vapors can mix with air to become explosive, which is part of the reason ventilation is important.
      The spontaneous combustion of rags issue is caused by things that will heat up as they dry. If you feel a rag with evaporating acetone or lacquer thinner on it, you'll find that the evaporation actually makes them cold. The thing to be be extremely cautions about is is oil based stuff which may contain drying salts such as manganese salts, zirconium salt, and cobalt salt. When these salts are exposed to oxygen, they create heat. Be careful with enamels and "boiled linseed oil". Art grade oil paints (think winsor & newton) may, but often don't, contain drying salts straight out of the tube but it is also a common practice among artists to mix in fast drying mediums (like liquin) which do contain drying salts.

    I've got two Creos Proconn double action and two single action (I have two places.) They're very good brushes - made in Japan - extremely high quality and reasonably priced. Excellent spray patterns. However, I strongly urge anyone buying a Proconn to buy a nozzle cleaning tool & replacement kit (Spraygunner sells them.) The nozzles on the Creos brushes are all extremely small. Creos recommends not removing the needle and cleaning by back-flushing. This will not work indefinitely - trust me - you will need to clean the nozzle and the needle sometimes. And getting that nozzle off is really tricky - the removal tool makes the job a snap. I believe the tool will also work on Iwata HPC brushes, although you might not need to remove the small part of the nozzle there very often. I use the Proconns a lot - although I'd take the Iwata HPC to a desert island. Either are better than Harder Steenbeck in my view - I've got three of those. (Can't afford a Mercedes, just do my best to keep the hobby industry moving along.)

    Love the videos but I should inform you that on your spray booth exhaust fan, it's likely hurting more than helping by putting those scratch Brite pads behind the filter, they are very restrictive to airflow so a couple things are going to happen, first, your exhaust air volume will be cut down to less cfm than the unit is advertised to work at, second, it will likely shorten the life of your motor and surely draw more power to run the fan do to the higher than design static pressure the motor is now faced with. When it comes to any type of fans, any added restriction over what the manufacturer specs the setup for this will be true for. Just a heads up. Thx again

    Sir. I have a quick wuestion but first i wanted to tell you how I really appreciate your videos. They have helped me a lot and I have bought a lot of the items that you recommend. Thank you very much.
    I have a question though; I bought the PS 290 airbrush and I have used it a couple times with your basic cleaning, that kind of stuff. I went to use it yesterday and it wouldn’t work and I took it apart today and I did a good internal cleaning on it but it only flows liquid if the needle is pulled back. And if the needle is pulled back (maybe somewhere around 1/32 of an inch) then it makes the thinner that I had in there drip through the nozzel on its own without the the trigger being pulled. If I push the needle forward so as to stop the drip flow I get no liquid through the nozzle when I pull the trigger, I will only get air. Do you have any ideas what this could be?
    Thank you very much

I have looked for guidance on what pressure, how much powder to use, and what nozzle size is best suited for airbrushing, but nothing really came up to answer my questions. Im using grex tg3 nozzle size .3, and an iwata neo trn1 with a .3 nozzle. Both sputtered. But worked perfectly after cleaning and using just straight paint that was only thinned.

    • @statoilbensin2190
      @statoilbensin2190 3 года назад +1

      It might not be fuzz, it can also be that the paint is drying before it hits the object. Try lower pressure and get closer to the object you are spraying. If it is staticfuzz then I would recomend you to blow air on it constantly even after spraying until it dries. If it is acrylic or lacqueer it will dry really quick.
