Although nobody will be able to ever play exactly like Eddie, you absolutely NAILED it! This is as close as us mere mortals will ever get to attaining Eddie's magic.
This is the most impressive thing I have ever seen ! Perfect tone perfect technique ! With eyes closed , impossible to say that it's not Eddie who's playing ! I can't believe it dude ! This is sooooo good !
Absolutely hands-down, the FINEST tribute to Eddie anyone has done EVER. NOBODY on earth is capable of doing what I just saw. I mean, it’s downright criminal your channel doesn’t have millions of followers. The live videos you’ve posted in the past were unbelievable, but this???? This is stratospheric. Another level. You may have just caused hundreds of wanna-be claimers to the throne to just put down their guitars and cry in a corner contemplating their purpose in life.
Most mere mortals will never know the work involved in achieving something like this. Kudos Simon! Nailed it. Is also poignant for me personally as my best mate and I used to watch this endlessly when it came out and ever since (RIP Adam).
Simon. Satch is brilliant at what he does but when it comes to recreating Eddie, I seriously think they wouldn't have gone wrong getting you in that group for that current tour. I haven't seen anyone do it better and with the same feel, timing and swagger. Appreciate your dedication!
Fantastic Simon! I’m so glad you did this video with this focus. When I first transcribed this in 1997, there was just the video to go by…and what a gift it was. I saw the 5150 tour in October of 1986 when I was 14 and I was lucky enough to be no more than 5 feet away from Edward’s mic stand for the whole show. Seeing him play that solo and actually getting two picks from him and two from Michael Anthony really blew my mind. But it wasn’t until the summer of 1997 that I sat down to learn the piece. I have improved my understanding of a few of the parts in the years since, but I’ve sent that original handwritten transcription all over the world since around 2008 when I first got on the internet. It is a solo that fascinates so many and it is in my opinion one of the most fully realized and best executed versions of his live solo ever. You get a wonderful tone here…I recorded my 1997 version of it using my Fender Super Reverb on about 2 for the benefit of my neighbors with my old MXR Distortion + overdrive pedal and my late 70s EH Deluxe Memory Man for the delay. Now I have my Eventide H9 and my Rockstah Marshall to get much closer to the tone of the original version. I think you’ve done a marvelous job with the tone and the playing here…so great! Congrats on an excellent and well produced video!
Aww thank you so much Allen, that means so much coming from you :) And yes I agree with you, I think it's Ed's most realised solo also. I can't believe that you got to actually SEE Ed do this when you were 14 AND get picks!! Sooooo cool! Love your work brother 🤘
Great work! I still remember the night I heard LWAN played on Eon FM after it came out! I taped it off the radio ( as we did back then !) and ended up wearing out the tape....Grouse job Simon 🤟
I did exactly the same. I think it was Lee Simon who played it. Remember hearing on the way home from Phillip Island and dying to get home to bung a tape in and record it.
THIS is the LWAN guitar solo cover I have been waiting for since RUclips was invented. As a previous commenter was saying , I have also watched Eddie's solo over 1000 times. Even though I don't play guitar , I have every note and lick memorized. You friggin' nail it. Hands down , the best reproduction ever. Good luck to anyone out there that tries to match or top this. Well done Simon.
This is the most brilliant tribute to Eddie. This was my favorite solo piece ever... You are the man!!! Take a bow. LWAN is the best captured live concert. The director should win and award.
I had to watch this back again twice! It's difficult to wrap my brain around how you did this! To capture Edward's feel almost to a tee not just in your playing but digitally on the computer!! I think you've crossed over into a new realm here Simon! The other thing that struck me was watching your hands compared to his and seeing the difference in your techniques yet getting the same sounds. Wild! On a snarky note, so there Satch! 😝Thanks again Hos! You ROCK!
as a lifelong edward fan and someone's who's been watching live without a net as a matter of routine for four decades, holy f'n shit. best ed impression i've ever seen by a mile.
Always love your playing I've been following you for a few years. I especially love your EVH stuff. Ed was a big influence on my guitar playing and I think you have captured his sole, the best i ever heard.
Oh my!! This is incredible Simon. Many of us have aspirations of nailing VH solos or even putting a tribute together, but this is next level. Simply amazing. You’ll blow up the internet with this.
This is actually incredible. I’ve learned sections of this solo but definitely not note for note. Well played, sir. I know Eddie would have a big smile on his face seeing this. Cheers!
Lol..no, he wouldn't. He'd think he needs to do his own style. Ed's probably my favorite musician, but he didn't always take imitation as flattery. That said, this video is amazing.
I take my hat off and bow to you Simon.I hope that every Eddie fan finds you and this performance. You are the next best thing to hearing Eddie in person (and I have) well done mate!
Hey Simon. Cam your student from now 30 years ago wow! Mate will you ever do a show with the hagar years, specifically the F.U.C.K album and others like the right here right now concert. You are the only guitarist in the world now that could do this. You are fricken awesome and I think so many would want to see this 🙏
The awsome Hoss the Boss! 🙏👍👌😎 Mate that is absolutely sensational! Thank you for this! I love live without a net! You made my day! 🎸 Keep it up Hoss you rock! 🎸🤘💪😃
I’ve watched that ten minute solo from live without a net probably a couple thousand times . I had just started plying when I got my hands on a vhs copy, which I wore slap out. The timing and nuance you nailed on this is just epic .
Goosebumps and a few tears watching this. Absolutely incredible! Saddened to hear you never got to see the great man play live though. Scheduling conflict?
I'm blessed to have seen both VH and Simon and his band live. Only just realised the hagar/satriani tour is going to Japan... it's close enough to Australia, but looks like tickets are gone.
Thank you legend. It just never happened, which is a shame.. but that's ok, when I was a teenager, I used to just close my eyes and listen to the first 7 records and imagine I was watching live hehe. Which was easy to do because they recorded most of that stuff live 🤘
Simon! Pretty damn impressive! Thank you for putting all of the work (and I know it took a bit 😉) into doing this. Very fun to watch, and extremely well executed! Thank you! You're one hell of a player...
@@jegauss aww thank you so much Jim. Coming from YOU and those Bionic ears of yours that is a huge compliment. And thank you for all YOUR wonderful content. I actually had the idea to use a Variac on the Suhr, even though it’s already running in low voltage mode, from YOUR Fair Warning video.. you had your amp SUPER loaded down, and it sounded exactly right to my ears (and obviously yours too). So thank you for the inspiration brother, your deep dives and attention to tone is really quite amazing. I hope all is well up there for you sir. Best from Down Under 🤟🙏
Even though you are in a controlled environment with controlled movements, this transcription is incredible! This was solo when I watched this video in 2005, and I still have this DVD today. . parabéns 👏👏👏👏
Your amazing guitarist Simon iv seen you many times over the years with major artists like Virgil donati and many others and as a fellow Melbourne!! A absolutely fantastic video clip and one of the only guitarist that has spent hours and hours listening to the greatest guitarist ever lived !! What a fantastic tribute to Eddie and to his family! I hope that this video reaches to all the VH fans around the world!! 🎵🎶🥁
Wow Like Wow Simon You Like Nailed It Your Playing Is So Outstanding Ypu Definitely Got It In Your Fingers An The Tone Was Definitely Spot On Eddie Is Smiling Down On You Thanks
Amazing man! Just f****n amazing. I can see Eddie's arm around your shoulders with same laugh as when he first saw Chip Ellis Frankenstrat, built only from pictures!
That was amazing my friend. Man I wore my copy of this show on VHS out back in the eighties. I literally watched every night before bed for probably a year.
Wow, what a cool idea! As you said there isn't or ever will be another EVH. It's one thing to play it, quite another to construct it from whole cloth. I saw this tour and solo from backstage. Maybe 30 feet away? Religious if not deafening experience. Thanks for this video, you're an amazing musician. Quite the achievement, very entertaining.
Thank you so much Tom :) that means a lot coming from you. I'm a big admirer of your videos and channel, and watched many of them. Hope all is well sir 🤘
Breathtakingly Amazing and held my attention like it did the first time i watched it on the VHS version of Live Without a Net. Thank you Simon, it brought a smile to my face all while along with a tear.
WOW! What dedication, really amazing job. That is A LOT to remember, I wouldn't have believed someone could copy all of that, until now. Amazing work. Ed would for sure appreciate this.
YOU NEED TO DO A LESSON THATS INSANE. The only other guy I know that did one was Doug Steele but his video was very quick and like 480p, good starting point but you did it 100% right. Good stuff man!!!!
Just amazing. Many people here complimenting your work. It's not work, it's time, finesse, ability, and equipment. I was stunned at your Van Halen 1 vid, but this one is beyond next level. Simply put, thank you and keep rockin'! Btw, any Men at Work remasters on the way?
Joe Satriani never even attempted the instrumentals… there’s so many guitarists who could’ve done the job and you are one of the great tribute players man that’s unbelievable
What a great surprise, I have waited a long time to see and hear your interpretation of Ed's Live Without a Net solo and wow you sure did deliver, enjoyed the rig rundown too, thank you, Simon!
Bloody great job. I was going to do this next week, and now I don’t have to. Thanks for taking the pressure off. Your talent and hard work are evident. Yet you still remain a good bloke when some people this good are smug pr!c×$.Keep doing what you are doing brother.
No one will ever get closer to Eddie’s sound than this. Unbelievable!
Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
Excellent tribute to King Edward. You absolutely killed it Hos! You are an absolute legend!
@@BentTom no YOURE the legend brother 🙏❤️
Dedication! 👍🎶🤘
Although nobody will be able to ever play exactly like Eddie, you absolutely NAILED it! This is as close as us mere mortals will ever get to attaining Eddie's magic.
Holy SHIT!!!!! That was AMAZING!!!! I couldn’t stop smiling!!!! Ed would be proud of you sir!!!
If there ever was a tribute tour (which seems extremely unlikely), you'd be my first pick to play Ed's part.
Wow! Incredible attention to detail. Incredible EVH tone and what great articulation. Note for note. ❤thanks so much for this post.
At 9:19 Simon and Eddie are proportional in size and Eddie looks across at him as if making sure he's ready to start the cathedral section.
What freaks me out is how he does this in free time without watching the video to make sure he's on pace. Crazy good!
Absolutely incredible dude! And thanks for link to my channel! You rock! 🤘🏻😎
Aww thank you Ryan, you da man!! 🤘
Incredible!!! There are very few players in the world with your talent and skills. Keeping Ed’s work alive 👍
You absolute madman, it's as if this was lifted straight from the soundboard.
This is the most impressive thing I have ever seen ! Perfect tone perfect technique ! With eyes closed , impossible to say that it's not Eddie who's playing ! I can't believe it dude ! This is sooooo good !
Unbelievable! Malaysia salute you!
5150 percent incredible
I'm still trying to pick my jaw up off of the floor! That was incredible!!
Brilliant!!! Exceptional work replicating this guitar masterpiece. Best thing I’ve seen on RUclips ever! Very cool having original video side by side.
Wow.. I don't know quite what to say. Thank you so much 🙏
