Hi there! I'm the team lead for Modrinth Servers and Founder/CEO of Pyro, I'd like to clear up some things mentioned in the video! Firstly, thank you so much for the feedback, means a lot to us since this is still a Beta release and we're working to implement a lot of what you outlined right now! I'd like to clarify on our CPU selection, we're a fairly new company without a stable data center yet, which means instead of having a lineup of CPU's we have a minimum criteria for what can be used for a performant experience. Our minimum requirements are very high in terms of current industry standards, a Pyro node must have at minimum: - NVME Storage - 128 GB RAM @ DDR5 - 18 Threads @ minimum base 3.7 GHz, higher heavily preferred - AMD Processor, our testing has shown that Intel CPUs just don't have what it takes to run this kind of workload. In our testing, all servers under this minimum criteria have performed identically to one another under maximum capacity, though we should make marketing clearer. We also don't over allocate our nodes, one of our 192GB nodes hold about one server per (real) thread, whereas other hosts might double or even triple this to bring the revenue per server higher and get their costs way lower. This only harms the customer's performance and fills the companies pockets, we decided for the premium experience we are making we did not want ANY chance of this happening, we're also working on a Grafana status panel so you can fact check this yourself soon! Us and Modrinth are mainly targeting people who want a smooth modded experience out of the box for them and their friends with little no no setup hassle, so plugin loaders and such were not our primary focus as those are often used for big communities, however we plan to have plugin loaders implemented by the end of this month, as well as some other features on the way! Thank you so much for the review!
Will this project be more accesible in the future? (in price or locations like Europe). If it is, it will probably be my next host. UI looks pretty neat ngl
@@its_phoenix_ Absolutely, we're expanding to more locations as soon as we stabilize our current offerings, we'll probably go either to Germany / UK next and then after that we'll likely go Australia / New Zealand. In terms of price, maybe in the far far future where we have a physical data center or way better rates, right now it would hurt the users more if we just crammed more people in to lower the price.
It might be a neat additional idea and make their server price more worthwhile if Modrinth could implement something like an in-client/website server list for their own server host so that people can hop into their server more easily, for example, by just clicking "download client," the user automatically downloads all required mods for the certain server they want to join. This could make people make a mod-based server easier to connect for casual players.
2:25: It says that it is using 2023 Ryzen 7 and 9 CPUs, which indicates that they are very new. It also says that they are using DDR5, and only the 7000 (Zen4) and 9000 (Zen5) series (just released, so most likely not) support this. So you can with some somewhat high confidence say that they are using Ryzen 7700 or better, and that is really good CPU. But if they could just say flat out which CPU, that would be even better.
Have been self hosting for almost a year now and the flexibility is awesome. I have a velocity proxy set up and "minecraft server hibernation" installed so the multiple servers on there are linked seamlessly and still barely use power when unused.
@Yackalips Yeah the only things are that you have to find a cheap PC somewhere and that you (if you don't know it yet and want the best performing OS) have to learn Linux basics. But it's easily worth it in the long run. The PC I'm using as a server has specs that, if paying a hosting website, I could have bought again from the savings made after less than a year.
They were beta testing this for a while beforehand and it was very funny to see the server hosting companies respond to the first tweet modrinth made being excited
One big upside I can see for this is updating mods alongside a mod profile. If you have a modpack and to get to the newest version its (most of the time) as simple as clicking update all on both your server and mod profile? that's a decent QOL feature. It seems to me like it could be especially good for modded servers. From looking through comments a little it looks like theres some plans and possibility for it to be really good for that purpose. Looking forward to seeing it develop a lil to explore its potential.
why does this review remind me so much of how vercel blew up - just like other providers but possibly more expensive, but also with a smooth UI that makes everything easy and neat to use
2:18 It's Ryzen 7000 series CPUs as it says 2023 and DDR5 memory which is only compatible with 7000 and the newer 9000 series, but thats was released after 2023.
The moment I saw this, I checked the pricing immediatly. I own a shockbyte server, it has 4 gigs of ram and cost $60. Unforntunatly modrinth was no where close to this.
here in brazil minecraft servers are a lot more cheaper, for example a host that i use (enxada host) is basically 60 brl (10 dollars) for an unlimited ram, average cpu and 64gb of storage wich is really good
if you have ftp access to the server, what is stopping you from swapping out the server jar? which essentially allows you to run any server software you want. it would also allow you to install any mods and plugins that you want, and it is probably a lot easier to upload and manage them that way.
"server devs" LMFAO no, this is targeted towards the regular joe who has a good job, and wouldn't mind to pay 4$ more than the competition because he has no clue wtf he does all he can see is that it doesnt lag compared to the other hosts he tried which is what they all care about and having an easy way to install plugins and mods is a very nice extra to have when you have no clue how computers work, and to not be put on the same virtual thread as 3 other dudes with their 6 slot minecraft server on a xeon thread from a cpu released in 2012. many many many server hosts buy cheap old xeon servers and sell mc hosting at really low prices, imagine a commercial airline overselling but instead of offering money so you go on the next flight they just put u on the wings and take off, thats exactly whats happening here, except you're also flying in a volkswagen mini golf with makeshift wings on it. One would think - that you should just buy a lot of these servers to make up for it since u are already paying pennies to get these second hand servers and just chill 2 maybe 3 people on 1 cpu core, u are getting 128gb ram minimum with these server nodes so it sohuld also come with 8 gb ram ideally, but the reality is that java mc is really hungry, so at the wattage these old servers run they NEED to cram people to make up for the electric bill and still have a profit, so they cram like 10 people on 1 thread, and make them pay a lot of ram because there's just so many ram moduels u can install in one of these nodes, so if 10 people wanted 8 gb of ram for hteir servers they'd easily top up at 80 gb ram PER 1 CORE, and some of these older xeons get up to 24 cores/48 threads, so 48*8 -> 384 gb ram, and you still have to have some couple of cores free for the main system too, just in case. Well guess what, not only is this a scummy move, it also makes your server lag a lot, cant even keep up with the default 20 TPS, I'm looking at you HETZNER.... meanwhile you could host a minecraft server on a intel n-celeron cpu from 2015 and it'd run just fine with 4 GB RAM, and this is really bad because a real thread of a xeon cpu from 2012 should still run lightly modded minecraft server just fine for 50+ people easily.
Personally, I host a server using the official server jars. I run it off my laptop, I have 32 GB of RAM so it’s not a big problem. I have a pretty beefy gaming laptop so it can handle a Minecraft server, a Minecraft client, and a web browser. I have a batch file in the server folder so I can drag what version I want to start onto the .bat file and it launches the Minecraft server jar.
It literally says 2023 Ryzen CPUs with DDR5. That literally means only one option - Ryzen 7000. Based on the fact that you can go up to eight vCPU cores, and virtualisation needs some headroom, I'd imagine bare minimum they use a Ryzen 7 7700X or Ryzen 9 7900X/7800X3D with 128/192GB of RAM, though more likely they'd want to host more than one per node, so probably a 7950X
Modrinth should make a app, (or any other company) that gives you all the server settings and you can run a server trough the app on your device. It's so hard to make a server (took me 5 months of finding the correct device and software) and my server got a glitch and i haven't played it for weeks now beacuse of that. Please, someone create something like this❤
in the blog post, they say one of their future goals is to integrate it into the modrinth app for easy accessibility. its just not their primary goal just yet
@@SparkingSparks you already described it in the first line. free = better also you can just send a whole modpack to a friend and he can play with you without any problems
They also say these ryzen 7 and 9 are from atlest 2023 so its atlesst 7000series with ddr5 so no there are not that much cpus which meet all these requirements
It's nice that Modrinth tries to target the audience that wants to just go to one place for everything. The only major thing that is not offered by them are pre-built maps(Though I guess technically one does not actually "have to visit" Curseforge for them, because of the mod Resourcify getting it for you through the in-game browser), but now everything else seems to be in place once it is entirely evolved and fleshed out.
Honestly i've Just started My first own Server via Hostinger and it's pain. Would've Chosen Modrinth If i knew about IT earlier since I Love how simple it is to Download and Play mods. Sadly I am Not Sure how to implement a Modpack from Modrinth on Hostinger
It's cool to see more competition in the server market, but there is a few things that I'm not really a fan of with the current release of a Modrinth server. I really don't bother with modded servers, only type of server I run is papermc, which is missing at launch. I also don't really think the storage is good enough, sure it may be fine for a small private server, but if this were to run multiple games like faction, survival, minigames etc I really don't think it's enough for a server with 100+ concurrent players.
storage scales with the server size, so a larger server has quite a lot of storage. But if you need more, just reach out to Support and explain the reason and they'll increase your storage for you! the only reason it's limited is to not waste resources on our nodes, but if you'll actually use it we're happy to give it to you. also plugin loaders are coming. you can already install them yourself manually but it'll be a simple 1-click like the mod loaders are currently soon!
This is coming and one of the main reasons we are doing Modrinth Servers! we originally wanted to launch with this feature but we're taking extra time to make it a really nice experience!
@@modrinth Perhaps support Linux as well then, so we can install it on Ubuntu server for example. Windows out of box can be performance hog like at least 1.5 - 2.5gb of ram on boot which could've gone to server instead. Ubuntu or Debian take way less space and ram than that.
the prices are like HORRIBLE. and not only that Locations being limited to only the US is not that big of a downside it is for non americans but 12$ compared to 4$ is obviously yk... a big difference
you dont need a mod. their servers already support the ability to have paper/etc installed. They just dont have a 1-click install button. You easily just manually upload the paper server jar, and run it. and it works perfectly fine. KasaiSora is wrong with this statement.
@@dcomella i'm not talking specifically about modrinth, i'm just stating that someone should develop a mod for fabric that makes plugin loaders unecessary
That’s just not how it works. There do exist hybrid servers that “support” both but it’s a very bad cost super limiting the servers potential, and causes a lot of issues. Plugins don’t work on modded the same way most fabric mods don’t work on forge. It’s up to the developer of the plugin/mod to choose if they want to code for fabric and forge and spigot/paper There do exists plugin that also work as mods, but that’s because the developer coded it that way.
it’s not exactly what you are looking for, but there’s spongeforge/spongeneo that combines sponge plugins with forge/neoforge mods. The plugin selection is limited compared to bukkit but still something worth looking into IMHO.
I hate the update to the site, forcing all the options for mods, resources packs, data packs, etc under a drop down menu just does *NOT* feel good compared to how it was before.
Modrinth is incredible. There is a reason I cover every big news worthy thing related to Modrinth on my channel, I absolutely love them and I am rooting for their succes!
@@landertheforce You'd need to restart the game and using the Modrinth app would do that either way. Which is also easier, so making this mod would be useless and there might be issues, since mods update automatically there might be incompatible mods (incompatible after the update) which crashes Minecraft on the next startup
If you buy a root server you pay 2-4 times less and get dedicated cpu cores and 4-5 times more storage, or even cheaper when buying a VPS. While the idea is cool its way way overpriced imho (As someone working in IT and owning servers for 5+ years) For example i pay 20€/month with 8 dedicated cores (2 threads each), 16GB of ddr5 ram and 512GB NVME SSD and it isnt just a minecraft server but an entire linux server so its much much more versatile
Since I don't play the game much, I buy credits from exaroton and set up a server, but if I'm going to play for 1 month, I'm thinking of renting a server from gravelhost. Look at the prices of gravelhost, I think it's quite affordable.
@@grisu1934 I think their target is people who're looking for a user-friendly interface that don't care about spending a few dollars extra. Or people that just want to play with their friends and don't want to look around and search the best product for their money or potentially even set up a dedicated VPS. So the target is more likely the casual friend group that plays for a few weeks every year. PS: What root server/vps do you use that only cost 3$ a month?
Monetization is still a lot worse, tho that might be because it has a lot less users. Even then, CurseForge allows you to withdraw anytime you want where Modrinth switched to a more complicated system that basically makes you wait months
imagine not being able to follow a guide to host your own server instead of paying for shit like this, plus if your friends live close to you they will have very little ping, if you pc is shit you can do it on a laptop by installing a very light os (example arch linux but thats not good for beginners)
You forgot to mention that mods used in servers help with monetization for mod creators using the money from paying for a server.... also using this video to sponsor a different server hoster is kinda OOF not very nice

I use lunar client hosting and go AFK so my friends can play when they want since I only play mc with my friends
Modrinth is the Minecraft everything.
im either switching feather's server host or not but didnt they already have it?
Is there the possibility to upload a map you already played on?
Can you do tutorial how to do 3D custom item with Custom Model Data? You did with 2D but can you do it for 3D?
They kinda forgot Essential...
I might buy one
İsn’t it expensive?
someone should make a mod that lets you run plugins in your servers without needing to have paper, spiggot or bukkit installed, that'd be real nice!
you dont need a mod. their servers already support the ability to have paper/etc installed.
@@that_guy1211 There's a mod that does this called Cardboard, it lets you run Bukkit, Spigot, and Paper plugins on a fabric server
That’s just not how it works. There do exist hybrid servers that “support” both but it’s a very bad cost super limiting the servers potential, and causes a lot of issues.
Plugins don’t work on modded the same way most fabric mods don’t work on forge. It’s up to the developer of the plugin/mod to choose if they want to code for fabric and forge and spigot/paper
There do exists plugin that also work as mods, but that’s because the developer coded it that way.
it’s not exactly what you are looking for, but there’s spongeforge/spongeneo that combines sponge plugins with forge/neoforge mods. The plugin selection is limited compared to bukkit but still something worth looking into IMHO.
I hate the update to the site, forcing all the options for mods, resources packs, data packs, etc under a drop down menu just does *NOT* feel good compared to how it was before.
I thought it was going to be servers on your pc like a server manager to install server to your pc
What’s ur shader/resource pack?
It would be better to buy a secondhand office pc with like 8 gigs of ram for 100 bucks or less and you would be better off
oh my days
YO YO YO
ive been waiting for this upload :)
whats the resource pack your using it looks really nice
bare bones

Modrinth is much better than curseforge. Just look at it's ui and how much better they treat the mod devs (well, you can't see that though. sorry.)
Modrinth is incredible. There is a reason I cover every big news worthy thing related to Modrinth on my channel, I absolutely love them and I am rooting for their succes!
The only thing curseforge has over modrinth is more published mods and modpacks
Like rl craft :(
I Am Modrinth Creator And I Love Modrinth 7:33 But It's So Mush Expensive And I Am From India
A Masterpiece!!!
curse forge funded the IDF, modrinth not supporting them is a blessing

A KasaiSora mod

@@orbiespvp make Elden ring mod pack
A mod that automatically updates other mods
@@landertheforce You'd need to restart the game and using the Modrinth app would do that either way. Which is also easier, so making this mod would be useless and there might be issues, since mods update automatically there might be incompatible mods (incompatible after the update) which crashes Minecraft on the next startup
If you buy a root server you pay 2-4 times less and get dedicated cpu cores and 4-5 times more storage, or even cheaper when buying a VPS. While the idea is cool its way way overpriced imho (As someone working in IT and owning servers for 5+ years)
For example i pay 20€/month with 8 dedicated cores (2 threads each), 16GB of ddr5 ram and 512GB NVME SSD and it isnt just a minecraft server but an entire linux server so its much much more versatile
Since I don't play the game much, I buy credits from exaroton and set up a server, but if I'm going to play for 1 month, I'm thinking of renting a server from gravelhost. Look at the prices of gravelhost, I think it's quite affordable.
@@grisu1934 where do you find such a great deals for vpses? 20€/m for these specs? Seem unreal...
Could you tell me where to get that deal? I would love to try it out.
@@VTCuongDev Netcup for best price/performance ratio and contabo for the cheapest and smallest budgets
modrinth is becoming better then curse forge in my opinion I'm hoping to make videos just as good as your someday 😊
Monetization is still a lot worse, tho that might be because it has a lot less users. Even then, CurseForge allows you to withdraw anytime you want where Modrinth switched to a more complicated system that basically makes you wait months
I’m just confused because their biggest sponsor has been bisect for a while now, so I guess not anymore😂
Finally
Or just get essentials mod for free and host a server or just get feather client for free and host a server
Shaders in Pojvluncher
Whats your recurce pack?
bare bones
I recomend buying old serwer for 50-80 USD.
Nice video (before even watching it, I know it'd be so)
Expensive xD
Kasaisora please make a vedio about bedrock server
How to add mod in bedrock server please
Day 1
they are ads on modrinth?
Yes. Like, 1 or 2 per page
wow this look good
Personally I think it’s overpriced. Surf hosting is an excellent choice for budget, and alienhost still has better price then modrinth. Great video!
yeah a ram stick of 8gb is so cheap and they want MONTHLY payment for increasing ram.
imagine not being able to follow a guide to host your own server instead of paying for shit like this, plus if your friends live close to you they will have very little ping, if you pc is shit you can do it on a laptop by installing a very light os (example arch linux but thats not good for beginners)
oh ok😯
Crazy
Modrnth is too expensive 3$ per 1gb ram I'd super expensive comparing to some other underrated hosts that sell 1gb per dollar
YOOOOOOOOOOOO
edit: me after watching the video, feather server hosting better
You forgot to mention that mods used in servers help with monetization for mod creators using the money from paying for a server....
also using this video to sponsor a different server hoster is kinda OOF not very nice
who are they targeting? me
Day 3 of asking for the best hoster with decent specs for price which accepts PAYSAFE
Or just do it for free
tbh i think this'd be a huge fail. there are better hosting webs than this.
Day 1: Of asking to unban darkicegamer
sorry I will not roast you for creating a video on how to dowload plugin :(
bro u were late to the party
i thought they added sex :/
I have a 128GiB ram R9 Dedicated Server, so this won't provide much to me. But this looks promising (from the 40 seconds I saw)
cool and all but overpriced
Day 56 of asking creators to pin me on random accounts
Aternos go brrrrrrrr
