I love the balanced tone of the OM-28, slightly brighter than a D-28.
I love mine. Perfect for finger picking
Great video, love the OM-28, btw, what guitar pick are you using in the video?
I just put up your demo of the OM-21 on a separate tab, and went back and forth on each chord passing and found these two guitars to basicly sound the same. People can argue over one being better sounding than the other, but those differences are often due to age of the strings, the mood of the player (aggresive vs delicate playing), etc. Thanks for the demos!
One day we'll enjoy this gorgeous instrument too✌️ Thanks for the great soundcheck
Sounds great. I recently picked up an OM-35 which has a very similar tone.
Yea! Thats a wonderful and great playing by you Ian. Thank you for a lovely upload. Also, your band is incredible, i really enjoy your songs.
I always appreciate your videos. I'd love to see some Laravées thrown in there for comparison!
Just ordered mine!!!!
I wish Martin would make an OM-18.
They do... Google it my friend.
Err, no they don’t! Only custom shop.
Err ...exactly they make a om-18 custom shop..not much more than standard series...err@@kalvino67
Easy playing... keep on
It might be the reverberations caused by my room, but my Martin om28 is almost too loud for its own good. It's extremely resonant and because of that it kind of lacks articulation. You can end up with, for example, open strummed chords played where all the strings sort of congeal into each other in a wall of bleeding resonance. Not really what I was hoping for when I bought it. Lovely...beautiful sounding when played very conservatively but pressed, it isn't so good. A great fingerpicking guitar...but for strumming it can get somewhat lost in its own resonance. Anyone know what I mean?
Absolutely know what you mean. I have one I feel exactly the same way. Chords muddy especially with the Martin pb’s. I have elixir 80 20’s on and it helps a little. I use a thinner pick which helps. I’m not happy with the reimagined series sound. I liked the om 28’s without the scalloped bracing
@@jamesgmorse3463 Mine is from around 2014. Apparently around then they were experimenting with different (probably cheaper) binding glue. Many people had issues with the binding coming apart around the body. I was one of them. Disappointing. Pretty much though in terms of tone, it wasn't made to be a strummer. It was made as a finger picker. Hence the slightly wider string spacing etc. I wasn't really aware of that when I bought it. My mistake. I also have a D28. Works much better for strumming. So it's not like I'm hard done by!
It’s like having 6 sugars in your coffee
Yes, I understand what you're saying. I have a Martin D28 and when played in my home office (small room) it sounds terribly loud and almost muddy because the sound is bouncing off the walls too soon, but when I take it out to the living room it sounds just awesome because that room is much larger with more furnishings to absorb some of the vibrations. I also have a Martin 000-15m and it sounds great in either room. So for smaller rooms in your home, I would recommend smaller guitars, and larger rooms go with either but dreadnoughts sound best in larger rooms, in my opinion. An Om28 isn't really a small guitar, so if you're after a great sound in a smaller office or den or bedroom, go with lighter strings or a smaller guitar.
@@terencelee21 I just sold my om28. Never thought I would. But it just didn't suit my style of play. As I said, it's a very resonant guitar well suited to focused fingerpicking. Never worked for me in any room as a strummer.
which string you’re using Ian??
I put bone pins on my OM. It's superior. More bass. More mediums. More singing highs. And above all an extraordinary tonal depth. Increased power. Bone pins provide all that this wonderful guitar lacks...
I've been thinking about bone pins for mine. Do you have a recommendation on where to get them?
Very nice demo. How does this compare to the 000-28?
Ok. I see now that you did that with your scale length video. Nice job!
i played both recently I prefer the bigger punchier tone of the OM....000 was very good...just personal preferance
I played both for about a month before buying the OM28, and to me the biggest difference was the OM produces a sea of resonance and overtones, whereas the 000 is more dry sounding and subdued.
@@KyleRathbun I feel the same way about the om28 and the sea of resonance and overtone. Not the greatest strummer unfortunately.
Hey man!
If I'm 90% strumming, should I go for a Martin HD-28 or OM-28?
Probably a dread, but the difference will be negligible unless you are a very heavy strummer
28 sounds brighter and quite bigger. I personally felt the 0M28 was a little more subtle.
Why do all guitars in your demos sound painstakingly loud and bright!
He knows how to play and also knows how to record very well.
you need to listen with good headphones man. This sounds well balanced, slightly warm even... Im listening though a pair of ZMF caldera headphones
Need to put that microphone closer to the Sound Hole and further away from the guitar where the sound comes out.miking the neck doesn't give you a picture of the sound of the whole guitar.. nobody wants to hear any low end out of an acoustic guitar I don't understand that. If you're playing with a busy mix Maybe.. but it's just a solo guitar you need to hear the whole instrument,, good bad or ugly
