ENF is the most boring form of charity given! Just try to keep your eyes open in an ENF socialist cry baby session!!!
I would say, the membership in the Elks requires commitment. While homeless people are not prohibited as members, (as long as you are an American Citizen, believe in God of the Christian Bible, and take the Elks oath, and paying dues), a person without resources would find membership too expensive. The Elks is not an outreach like a church might be. In being a member of any club, your life goals have to fit the club's goals. The Elks does very little to support the choices homeless people make to remain homeless, except drug awareness programs to keep people from becoming homeless. The Elks don't offer members anything for free. Generally, you might go broke being an Elk if you get too involved!
Elks Lodge, Boy Scouts, Augusta National, YMCA, the NFL, they used to be much better before you know who had to butt in because we were fine having fun by ourselves.
Lots of black Elk leaders in upstate New York. They give with grants to many families who can't make the winter, or need genuine assistance. But since funds are limited, the Elks does not give charity. The Elks gives dignity. Though "charity" is not a bad word in itself.
