I had one of the orange looking English setters known as an Orange Belton. Sherry was the most loving dog and she gave our family 11 years of total happiness as did an earlier fawn Great Dane called Tara who also made it to 11. These 4 are amazing.

@canadian Yes they are amazing dogs. The Red Setters are the maddest of the setters, but I think the English, perhaps I'm biased, are the best.

I am currently trying to help find 2 homeless settters in Montenegro where people there are terrible to pets. Hunters dump them and they starve on the streets. Can these dogs survive out in the elements?? I’m worried

I am wanting an English setter. I have a husky so am well aware of the requirement for hyper breeds ;)). I know they are a hunting breed though.... big problem is- I’m a small animal rescuer and keeper and everything in between. I don’t have any rabbits or guinea pigs etc now but in the future when I upgrade apartments I am wanting to get a free roam rabbit as I’ve had before. But the English setter puppy will not be raised around such so I’m worried with their natural hunting ability it would kill it if I get it when it’s an adult ://. I could put a gate to the animal room up and just keep the rabbit in there and the door shut but, I guess my question is will these guys still feel the urge to hunt even without field training? I know German shorthairs do and my friend will find little surprises in her yard from hers so I’m guessing it will be the same with these guys :// won’t stop me from getting a few. Some adjustments will just be needed.

The English setter has a very sweet character. I have a show line, they don't have a strong hunting instinct. My setter live with a cat and friends with it and play.

Believe it or not I actually have a husky and English setter in the family. The setter won’t kill however, they are bred to hunt and set , but never kill. You should be fine

Jon Parkes that’s great! But I do have a few huskies and turns out they’re NOT fans of the small animals. No free roamers for us 😬

Lexi Lui Lmao I will totally get one in the future. Since that comment I have gotten two more huskies - one right after and one is six months 😅. I had to laugh at the fact I was worried about prey drive and now my current huskies will kill any small animal they see and just stare into my rescue hamsters bins. No rabbits for me anytime soon!

Lexi Lui well- they definitely get warm, mine always pant if we walk in warmer weather. But their coats do protect them from the sun and actually help regulate their body temp. As long as you have air conditioning in your house and it isn’t an outside dog you can definitely have a husky there. Hell mine will lay on the deck when it’s super hot out and I have to drag them in haha.
