    I’ve been incorporating herbs & pollinator flowers in and around my organically grown garden for a long time.
    I even use the cardboard which is very beneficial when it gets wet from the drip system.
    A lot of things that are biannual such as Portuguese kale, beets and cilantro that I am growing, seed the second year, I saved the majority of seed off the plants, but I leave just 1 plant of each to seed & drop those seeds so volunteers come up and they are heartier.
    I have a broccoli seedlings that came up already from just the broccoli going to seed this summer, because it got so hot here and bolted, so I let the seed start to fall, but saved the rest for later.
    It still is hot 🥵!
    But, getting a lot of volunteers which is wonderful!

    Yes they can be overwintered under grow lights. I did it and harvested in February and replanted in May. Im currently experimenting if they can be useful after 2 seasons. Maybe for seeds? ( it’s actually from store bought herb bunch) they are very hardy.

      Yes, it's true!
      We had a mild winter this year and our parsley - growing outdoors - managed thru the winter and we've been harvesting since April!
      I believe if you keep cutting it back it will keep growing just fine.

    Thank you for the idea of only watering the plants at the root, to prevent issues! What to do about rainfall?

    • @SustainableStace
      @SustainableStace  Месяц назад

      You're welcome. It's a very prudent way to get water where you want it and also to NOT water the weeds which you don't want to encourage !
      Rainfall? Yes, always a challenge with it being unpredictable.

    I've had a very hard time growing parsley for some reason. As for j-root, I just planted several parsley plants yesterday, would it be worth re-planting them to make sure i have the root straight down?

    • @SustainableStace
      @SustainableStace  19 дней назад +1

      Parsley has not been cooperating with you ?
      If you're second guessing whether or not you 'j rooted' your plants, it won't hurt to go back and check.
      wishing you well.

      Hi Rose - I'm visiting friends in Naramata today.
      We're practically neighbors. Parsely is hardy. Make sure it's in a pot that let's it grow & Don't overwater it and it should be fine!

    Can you freeze pieces for storing all year

    • @SustainableStace
      @SustainableStace  2 года назад +1

      Absolutely. With fresh herbs that I want to store I usually do one of two things:
      1) food process with a bit of oil, freeze in ice cube trays and then once frozen pop them into a zip lock back in the freezer. Pull 'em out as you need them
      2) dehydrate

    What are "urbs"?

    • @SustainableStace
      @SustainableStace  Месяц назад

      Herbs are plants that provide flavour in many dishes, usually the leaves of which are added.
      some examples: parsley, thyme, oregano, rosemary and sage

    Do you have a preference, flat leaf or curly parsley?

    • @SustainableStace
      @SustainableStace  2 года назад +1

      It depends on the application.
      I use either / or in smoothies and drinks.
      I essentially use flat leaf in place of Celery in dishes b/c it cuts up and tastes so similar. An example would be Potato Salad.
      The curly I use more frequently as a liberal garnish on casseroles and hot dishes.

      I like the curly better but that could be mental because the flat looks like my nemesis, cilantro. My 6 year old daughter who hates ANYTHING green and basically all vegetables except potatoes and has always been an ibligate carnivore, loves parsley for some reason. My 4 and 11 year old daughters who prefer raw vegetables over everything are addicted to chimichurri. Parsley and red chili flakes are an incredible combination on ramen

  • @sachap888

    I made a big mistake, though the curly parsley was carrots or weeds, so I guess weeds pulled it out and threw it in the bin. I wasn't sure what it was. It was growing next to my rosemary, so I got rid of it. OMG, I'm so upset now. 😢😅😢

    • @SustainableStace
      @SustainableStace  11 дней назад

      shoot - that's a bummer. The tops of parsley and carrots can be confused. Thankfully, parsley can be replaced easily!
