The interesting psychology is the less sex you have the first month
I mean no sex just talk and romantic gestures
the more you are attracted to the person
because you don't see him just like an object
you see him as a human being with wisdom, emotions, feelings, humor, nice hobbies
It is an interesting observation that if you wait to have sex, your point of view about the guy is much richer,
your love and attraction to him starts to be richer
and if you have the first sex after 2 or 3 months, it can be just plus
because the richer the point of view about him
his lifestyle, his values, his hobbies, music, science, knowledge
the richer experience can be sexually and romantically....after a few months of dating.
I am just guessing. I am not an expert.
      But experts say
the same way you treat your sex life,
the same way you treat other areas of your life.
It's like you go to Paris, you don't want to see all the attractions and the Eiffel Tower on the first day.
You just want to get some coffee in a nice restaurant and introduce yourself to the city.
After a few days, you visit the attractions to absorb its beauty and interesting stuff about the city.
We live in a world of easily selling the product, just by clicking on the button
as television likes to promote this mindset
So it's obvious that this mindset is adopted also in the romantic areas, but it doesn't work that way.
      People should be more natural.
so you are investing your attention into knowing him, even knowing his flaws that are meaningless
because you are interested in him as human, it's called imperfect perfection.
You see a tree that has an imperfect shape, or size but the tree is imperfectly perfect because of its natural beauty.
Nature is imperfect, and trees are imperfect, therefore they are imperfectly perfect in their beauty.
Therefore humans also should not try to look perfect but natural.

Brett Cooper is VERY young. When I was her age, I had similar ideas about consenting adults and was shy about telling people they were wrong in their personal sex lives. Like most young people, I was more libertarian, and had a naive point of view about "adult" behaviors. Honestly, she's much more reasonable than most people her age, and as she gains wisdom, she will probably come to understand why there is no such thing as healthy and happy fornicators.

They also aren’t part of Brett Cooper’s generation. Believe me as someone who is part of that generation, it’s shocking enough to find someone with Brett’s views expressed in this video. Our generation has been exposed to this evil since we were essentially children. We’ve been told it’s normal and healthy by almost every source of mainstream media we’ve been force fed, by the teachers in our schools, and by our peers. Parents often don’t get just how bad things are because they were never exposed to free internet porn, where you can see literally whatever you want at any second.
So be encouraging of the young adults today who are waking up to the evil that is porn. Be supportive of them, even if they don’t perfectly understand the full extent of how evil it is. Offer a prayer to St. Augustine that this generation can break free of the sexual deviancy that’s been thrust upon it.

When I was stationed in South Korea, pornography was banned. Sure, there were creative ways around it, American military personnel were often experts at accessing it. But, just the act of banning major sites and making it difficult to access made for a much more normal and sane society. The US should absolutely ban it. It’s not a free speech issue, as you don’t have a right to have sex in a public place. Now, you could require people to make accounts to access private websites, but even then pornography is not a free speech issue because 49 States ban prostitution, and pornography is a form of selling your body or that of another person or persons. We must push for an absolute ban on porn, with serious consequences. It might not be politically tenable now, but as society falls apart it turns to the Catholic way when things are dire. We know for a fact things will only get more dire, this is not sustainable.

More importantly, production of porn is illegal in South Korea. It's really a no-brainer for a state that cares about its people to protect young women from this sort of predation.
The porn firewall is a good thing. It's really easy to get around, but that extra barrier is nice. It stops kids from wandering into the stuff. I used to live in SK, and at the time I had no moral qualms about porn. I don't think the extra step of opening a VPN ever discouraged me from porn use. But it can't hurt.

I love that Matt is fighting to bring up society's standards. It's such a necessary fight. I think the problem here is that conservatism is edging away from religion and looking at things too legalistically (almost like the Pharisees - just saying) instead of rooting one's view of the world through the eyes of Christ and living to join Him in heaven one day. Conservatism is never gonna fix these problems because it worships the founding fathers instead of the Father. I say this as a conservative, but I'll always be Catholic first and foremost.

    • @meglukes

These conservatives aren’t even worshiping the founding fathers, they’re worshiping warped, half-formed pictures of them. If you resurrected any of them and said, for instance, that you permitted pornography and banned prayer in schools based off the first amendment, they would be shocked and appalled, might even challenge you to a duel. None of them indicated they saw any conflict between the first amendment and blasphemy laws, which predated the revolution and continued to be passed over a century after the revolution. John Adams said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” James Madison wrote that our Constitution requires “sufficient virtue among men for self-government,” otherwise, “nothing less than the chains of despotism can restrain them from destroying and devouring one another.” Most conservatives can’t handle that, can’t accept that according to the founders themselves, this libertarian streak is incompatible with the structure of our country.

@Megan okay, I see what you're saying, and I agree. The conservatism a lot of conservatives are subscribed to isn't even to the standards of the founding fathers they claim to follow. I can definitely see that in how we claim to be conserving freedom but have caved to certain moral and spiritual things because "it'sa free country" due to the lost logic that society should be held to a moral standard that says no to people doing whatever they want. You're right - people really don't understand what kind of country the founding fathers envisioned and how that deviates from this radical "freedom" that even conservatives push which may have dug us into the moral hole we are in today. Excuse my symbolism of the worship of the founding fathers, then. They're worshipping a false freedom that is blinding them from the further destruction they are causing by not barring societal behavior that is immoral.

Definitely saying a prayer for you!
Keep your focus on God. We naturally gravitate toward what we think about, so even if your focus is "Porn is bad, I should avoid porn", you're still giving a lot of your mental time and effort to the negative thing. If you instead focus on how great Jesus is and on seeking to have the mind of Christ and think about the things He does, I think you'll find it much easier to avoid.
Also, we tend to act in alignment with what we think we are. If you think being an addict is a deep part of your identity, you will probably continue to act like an addict even though you don't want to be addicted. On the other hand, if you are in Christ and really are a new creation, focus on this new identity in Christ and ask God to help you believe you are what He has already made you to be: one of HIs holy people. If you are a new creation in Christ, your core identity is His own righteousness, not the sins that you have struggled with. There is still temptation sometimes-after all, even Jesus did not get a pass on temptation-but there is power to overcome that temptation instead of being enslaved to it.

I once heard an audibook on a pornstars experiences (would not recommend now since it's very explicit), but what stayed with me is that she could not admit being raped since she told herself that this is what she agreed to when becoming a pornstar (being used sexually whether she liked it or not), she was told that the best pornstar was a woman who never complained even when in extreme pain and that she was choked to the point of nearly dying all for an "aggressive" porn video. I'm still struggling with lust, but porn is something I left behind. A quote that also inspires me daily is from 'if we were villains': "It was maddening how beautiful she was, but did that make the rest of her any less real?" and from Les miserables from Fantine when she is so desperate she turns to prostitution "don't they know the're making love to one already dead", espcially the latter hits really hard since the song starts playful, but gradually you see the anger and sadness break through, it makes you realise that many women are also likely acting fun in the porn industry but deep down they are broken and in need of true love. May god have mercy on them all and lead them to a healthy and happy life! 🙏

Consent based morality is modernist garbage (which American conservatives often still implicitly defend). Adults consenting to an action doesn't necessarily make that action morally licit (ex- 2 twin brothers above the age of 18 both consent to sexual intercourse, this is obviously morally evil, but under the purview of consent based morality there isn't a reason to argue that this evil, as both parties equally consent). This line of thinking embraces the subjectivist view of morality that got us in this mess in the first place.

Okay I will play devil's advocate on this, the separation of church and state ensures that the government ensures the social common good of the people and the church ensures the spiritual common good of the people, so if two twin brothers or twin sisters have sexual relations with each other which they both know is morally bad but they decided to do it anyway I would think they would do it in secret and not tell anybody which they have every right to do as two consenting adults that's why there is a separation of church and state to begin with so the church won't interfere with people's basic freedom's that go against religious legality as long as these freedoms do not interfere with the basic common good of the people that's why people have the right to talk things over with their respective religious director because the state ensures one of the basic human freedoms of the right to practice their religion of choice now a part of that freedom of religion means Traditional Catholics should have the right to voice their opinion against lgbtq and have the right not to participate and things that involve lgbtq which they have the constitutional right to do as long as it doesn't go any farther than that since both parties rights must be respected under the law of the government which ensures the social common good of the people so if traditional Catholics have a problem that goes beyond that they have the right to talk it out with their spiritual director. Great video, Matt. I think the best litmus test to expose pornography as evil is to ask your self whether or not you would be happy if a loved one was in a pornographic video (daughter, son, etc.). Deep down I think we all know its wrong. Something that I try to be conscious of to help resist the desire to look at porn is the simple fact that everyone featured in pornographic content is someone's daughter or son. If we wouldn't want our own loved ones involed in pornograpghy, than we shouldn't want anybody's loved ones in it. How shameful it is to be okay with somebody else's daughter in a pornographic video. Even if a person in porn denies the fact that what they are doing is wrong, they are probably causing much untold pain to their mother, father, children, etc. I think porn has been way more damaging to society than most people realize. It scares the hell out of me when I think of how easy it is for very young people to access extremely vulgar content and how damaging it is to their mind and soul, and how they will potentially bring extremely toxic sexual habits into their marriages, hurting their future spouses and themselves. I truly don't think we've seen the worst of it yet. Lord help us.

"Happy" is probably too strong a word, but I would appreciate the fact that they found their niche and trust their judgement. Watching their porn would be weird, though.
And "S/he's someone's son/daughter!" is a no sequitur. Do you need to be reminded of this when you go on a date, or are intimate with your spouse? They're an adult, just like you, and should be respected as such.

Matt, I love your work, but I think you have some things wrong. First, love is not desiring the best thing for the other. That is an aspect of human love, but it is not love. For there is nothing I can desire for God. Rather love is actively finding joy in the mere existence of the other. A consequence of this is desiring the others good. Second, use is not the opposite of love. For as Wotyla says, anytime a person asks anything from the other, they use them as means to an end. He uses an army commander as an example. A commander uses his soldiers for the purpose of war even to the point of death. Use of a human being the definition of evil comes from Kant, not Wotyla. Wotyla states that it is love which protects the human soul from being corrupted by using a human. I mean, if use was categorically wrong, (haha, Kant joke) God would commit sin continuously as he uses all things for good. This is nonsensical. Rather, when God uses you or me, he does so with love, actively rejoicing in our existence and acting to bring us to share in that joy as well.

I am in my mid-40s, but I remember when I was like 12, my mom bought my sister and me a German youth magazine, Bravo, which she didn't know, but which was actually very popular in German speaking countries at the time because there was a page with supposedly authentic letters from teenagers about sex (and a lot more content as well that promoted sex for teenagers). A few months later, my mom looked into it, found something in the magazine that contained some question about some perverse practice and was shocked. She came to us and told us: 'You're forbidden to read this magazine, it's stupid!' But unfortunately, she didn't tell us at all why... So we of course went on to buy the magazine in secret, which seriously influenced our expectations of relationships (the magazine regularly suggested that you're not normal if you have never kissed at 13 and are still a virgin at 16). If I think back, I guess a good, open discussion with my mom about what the magazine contained and why it was 'stupid', would have been very helpful and would have probably kept us from reading it anymore. So, parents, please talk about your values to your children and teenagers! Please!

I can't even sum it up in a single comment, but even 4 months completely removed from pornography, and 5 years of fighting to stop, I still can see how my brain is severely affected by pornography, and how it even affects my marriage now. Research has shown that photo based pornography (not videos) take 6 months of completely quitting for the brain to remap to a normal state, for video pornography they saw it taking upwards of a year and a half to recover, although they didn't know the upper limit of how long it could take to recover from video pornography. Im now 4 months out, and I still feel the daily effects. According to the study I read, someone who indulged in photographic based porn only would already have reverted completely on a conscious level by 3 months, with 6 months for a complete neurological recovery. At 4 months I feel very little difference from day 1, except for the fact that I'm not constantly itching to get on one of those sites, but how it affects my marriage, my view of women, my dopamine response, etc. I can confidently say I think it will be at least another year before im fully recovered, possibly more.

I also came to that conclusion. His very high opinion and respect of his father would be shattered and that is a terrifying thing to come to terms with esp when you don't have the Holy Trinity to hold you in your pain. Not only did his father choose the wrong thing but his mom was also an enabler, it's sad really.

You could argue that the Puritan response that nudity is wrong over the Catholic view that only porn is wrong. Victoria Secrets is commonly used as a transition to porn. Candace Owen's husband won't use social media. The state of Texas went after a store because it a statue of Micalagelo's David under Texas' porn laws because nudity is nudity. While I am an artist so I personally don't personally don't hate nudity, people who do make that view will never be addicted.

You might be morally right in that watching porn is harmful, but it's unrealistic to assume that a sizeable portion of young men are capable of stopping. You can't expect young men to suddenly be like you know, you're right, I'll just stop watching porn.

I stoped watching porn and masturbating about nine years ago when my girlfriend who is now my wife and mother of our child found an internet search for porn on my computer and confronted me about it. The further you get away from porn and masturbation the more you realize how degrading, unmanly, and loser-y it is.

I call BS on the "porn actresses are sometimes sex slaves".
Maybe if you're talking about kiddie porn or drugged out women, but in high scale productions where the actors are playing characters ( say superheroines like Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Batgirl, who are THE top sellers), there's simply no way these are mot real actors (most times you even get BTS footage of the actors so you can verify it's all acted and faked, especially the beatdowns).
Pick your porn like you pick your food.
Th UN "peacekeeping" missions fuel sex trafficking far more than porn ever will...

14:26 How did that study control for the relationship between the occurrences of depression with porn? It sounds like a case of correlation/causation confusion. Did the porn cause them to be depressed or were they already depressed and the porn was being used to alleviate it? Maybe they were already depressed due to a lack of finding a woman. I really hope in your book you discuss the methodology of the study.
As for the grades of the boys sure I believe that but any kind of addiction will do that. Addiction to video games or television will do that too.
As for the porn/shrinking brain claim the research that really got this started was a German study and even they didn’t make definitive conclusions. They wrote that “one may be tempted…” to make that assessment. In an interview one of the authors said “It's not clear ... whether watching porn leads to brain changes or whether people born with certain brain types watch more porn,”. It was in The Daily Telegraph. As a rule of thumb studies are not as definitive in their conclusions as we think they are. The findings were suggestive of such conclusions not determinative.
16:10 sure I agree but if those passions include a strong appetite that can’t be satisfied the way we do for food it’s very hard and frustrating for men. It’s easy for you from the comfort of one who has been fortunate enough to have found a wife to make love to speak of “you must control the lower appetite by the higher ones” as if that’s all there is. The appetite for sex is strong and a natural one and what makes this especially hard is that it’s not one you can just open the pantry and make it go away. It’s one men go to porn not so much because they want an alternative to reality but because their reality hasn’t panned out for them.
21:06 Agreed, less bad doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better than the more of the same bad. However the calculus can be different. Maybe it’s the less bad so as to avoid greater problems. Maybe we choose the less bad not because we think it’s ok to do but it may prevent other consequences. Let me use the example of the late Pope Benedict XVI. He said that gay men who engage in sexual activity should use condoms. Was he promoting gay sex? No of course not. What he was doing was recognizing that not everyone is capable of living the ideal holy life immediately and that until sometimes the lesser bad must be engaged to prevent greater harm. By engaging in “safe gay sex” the greater harm prevented is the spread of diseases among the gay population. Maybe lesser graphic forms of porn, ones that don’t depict the sexual activity of the more sluttier and trash, can be a lesser bad that prevents men from the built up pressure of the heat of libido they could possibly satisfy in more horrible ways in society. Sometimes we have to balance many consequences some that are immediately necessarily to control and prevent while striving to the ideal life.
So you decide to do a 180 ok then in the meantime while you’re making that long hard journey a man’s appetite is still there.
