Bro c'mon .. Ronaldo worked so much harder than Messi. Evidence? 1. Ronaldo trained his dribbling technique extensively. People call it useless tricks, but that's just being ignorant. Step-overs are very effective to get past defenders (ask R9) & to do them around your top-speed is not easy. Plus given that Ronaldo is a pretty tall dude (at least he's above average here in the US), to even move his legs that fast would require a lot of training (fast-twitch muscle fibers). Whereas Messi never needed to learn those skills; his low center of gravity helps him to be elusive against opponents taller than him. This is an unorthodox way of taking free-kicks and if you ask any footballer they'd tell you its the most difficult shot to learn. The fact that Ronaldo has 60+ scored using this technique is just insane. Whereas Messi uses the orthodox technique of taking free-kicks: curling. There's no one out there (at least right now) that can jump off the ground & hang in the air as long or as high as CR7 in football. The amount of drills (box jumps, squats, other forms of resistance training) he probably does to obtain that skill must be quite impressive.
@@Gio-m I’m not doing this man. I never said Ronaldo didn’t work hard (or harder than Messi). My point is that his hard work was not the only reason for his success, as many people try to portray. Both Messi and Ronaldo had an unbelievable amount of talent. Extremely unique footballers. Just because you think Ronaldo worked harder than Messi (and I’m not disputing that claim) it doesn’t mean that’s the reason Ronaldo was successful. I Dont understand the narrative that cristiano has hard work as opposed to talent, and Leo vice versa. They are obviously both unbelievable talents and unbelievably hard workers…. There shouldn’t be an argument about this putting one above the other
Because it is true while CR7 is extremely talented there were more players with innate talent but it was his dedication to hardwork that made him who he is. While Messi is talented anomaly for sure he has worked hard but not as hard as Ronaldo in fact he had a horrible diet & didn’t take his physique seriously until recent years & is on his phone in trainings & halftimes & still perform while Ronaldo would be the exact opposite
Ppl compare the obvious ... Messi v. R7 ... but there is no true comparison....each VERY different ... winger vs. CM ... dribbler vs. speed ... techically perfect vs. raw talent. Both GOATS ... both in a league all by themselves. Hell, Mbappe isnt talked about without his blazing speed ! In the end, CR7 didnt take steroids as a kid to make him grow, either 😉 CR7 ... the people's champion...and he wants the love returned....rightly so. 💥💥💥 Siiiiiuuuuuuu
Ronaldo v Messi isn't even a debate, it's not close, Messi can simply do too many things which Ronaldo is unable to. It's no shame for Ronaldo, Messi is just better than anyone else of the last 30 years. I'm too young to speak about further ago than that but of the last 30 years nobody can touch Messi.
I'm not even a United fan, but I'm sure that if Van Der Saar had been an outfield player... no... specifically a forward, with his consistency and performance levels, he would have a hell of a lot more respect than he does now. For me, one of the greats of the game.
Wages, sponsors and image rights have made players fragile nowadays. There’s no loyalty for the player to go all out! Players are trying to run their contracts out and jump ship for a better payout.
The ending to the video with Van Der Sar's statement is the reason why we aren't top of the level for the past 10 years...our team doesn't work their socks off especially against weaker teams.
Its very difficult for most young players to be good enough for a giant club as Man U, but being a excellent keeper, at age 35 and reaching one the best keeper in the world is even much more difficult. Gr from an Ajax fan, hopefully net year Man U will play for the 1st place 👊 Stay strong Edwin, Ajax Man U and many other clubs thinks of you. Hope you will get better soon.
I would say many today either already think they are before accomplishing anything or think they will be. While saying I want to be implies there is work to be done and room for improvement while the others are more of an entitled mentality.
Good clip, but just to note that despite his mentality, Jürgen Klopp never played in the 1. Bundesliga. Mainz were promoted there for the first ever time with him as manager in 2004.
What's the myth about Ronaldo's accomplishment being about less talent and more hardwork, as against that of Messi? Ronaldo was already in the Portuguese team by the age of 18. Of course, hardwork did a lot for him, but it's ridiculous to claim he wasn't naturally already a very talented player by 19,20,21 years old .
But he's not a pure naturally gifted footballer the calibre of Messi. Ronaldo like everyone says constantly working on his game, fitness, diet, everything. when most players have a some downtime he's in the gym. His game was based around speed and power he's never been elegant never been a elite dribbler and he's selfish.
@@leemc5646 Elite dribbler? Ronaldo was an elite dribbler at Man United. I've supported United for 70 years and, IMO, Van De Sarr was the best GK we have had during that time. Through the ranks, real MU players, the best were Jimmy Rimmer, Gary Bailey, David Gaskell. To come, Harrison and Vitek .

People mention the offensive players a lot on that ManU team, but their defense was where they were strongest relative to every other team. VDS, Vidic, Evra, Ferdinand, Neville (+Ji Sung Park when assigned as a hit man) were a very hard defense
I think he will return to Man Utd. He has left his job at Ajax. He is Dutch and worked with ETH before and a legend of the club. I think ETH will request his appointment under the new ownership.
Cruyff would be the last player to kick on goal before the match and he would always kick them in such a way that the goalkeeper could just keep it out, making sure the goalie felt invincible.
This man is probably why I never really liked De Gea from the first day I saw DDG in the goal post. EVDS was so high-level, that when he stopped playing I could already see that United didn't really have a good GK anymore, and that awesome run of winning titles consistently was coming to an end. When you have a great GK, you can really just win tournaments that you have no right to win sometimes. They stop an obvious goal here, a penalty there, and that could be the difference between winning a tournament and just slightly missing out. And a good example is Argentina in the World Cup. People forget about the details, or maybe focus on Messi and the other goal scorers, but if Martinez wasn't as good a shot-stopper and PK saver like he is, Argentina would've been eliminated in the first shootout they had. De Gea is the opposite of that kind of keeper. He is just makeweight. But people like EVDS, Martinez, they actually give you an edge having them between the sticks.
We had been waiting for EVDS since 2001/2002 to join us after Barthez. Man Utd was so dodgy from 2002-2005 in the goalie position & vulnerable between the goal post. However we had to honour EVDS's wish to honour his contract with Fulham first, appreciating the Club for taking him in to EPL from the Italian Serie A. That was the same period Arsenal managed to top over us & Chelsea's glorious period of double EPL successes under the new mgr Jose Mourinho. Things changed for the better & greater when EVDS came in to stay in 2005.
In the early days AC MIlan destroyed him. 2004, 2005, 2007. Nesta and Maldini humiliated Cristiano. I remember it. Cristiano matured massively after that.

Funny how people think Cristiano was born with zero natural talent and skill. Even without the hard work he would’ve been a top player, his touch and flair were not created in the gym..

3. Jump-height.
I would argue that Messi and Ronaldo are equally talented, just in their own ways.
@@Gio-m you’re just so far off because you didn’t actually read what I said. You’re literally arguing something that has nothing to do with that I said. Learn to interpret things properly 🤦🏻♂️
Amazing goal keeper miss watching him play.
Ronaldo is more polarising player than Messi
People champion 😅😅😅
Ronaldo v Messi isn't even a debate, it's not close, Messi can simply do too many things which Ronaldo is unable to. It's no shame for Ronaldo, Messi is just better than anyone else of the last 30 years. I'm too young to speak about further ago than that but of the last 30 years nobody can touch Messi.
Cristiano is insanely talented. People need to stop deluding themselves.
We need him back at United as a director of football.
Why?
He destroyed Ajax and takes no responsibility.
How about putting people in this position with proper knowledge and experience?
I'm not even a United fan, but I'm sure that if Van Der Saar had been an outfield player... no... specifically a forward, with his consistency and performance levels, he would have a hell of a lot more respect than he does now. For me, one of the greats of the game.
Everyone talking about Ronaldo as if he wasn't already insanely talented to begin with...
To be fair, Rooney was rated higher when he joined
He wasn’t saying that it’s just there were more players with innate talent just did not have his consistency & hardwork
Ronaldo work wise is a machine.
A Terminator.
Work, work, work, and work some more.
Wages, sponsors and image rights have made players fragile nowadays. There’s no loyalty for the player to go all out! Players are trying to run their contracts out and jump ship for a better payout.
Footballers are proper snakes now
It's all business, there are more Manchester United fans around the world than in England, so do you think the club owners care about loyalty.
Edwin true Dutch Utd legend
The ending to the video with Van Der Sar's statement is the reason why we aren't top of the level for the past 10 years...our team doesn't work their socks off especially against weaker teams.
Its very difficult for most young players to be good enough for a giant club as Man U, but being a excellent keeper, at age 35 and reaching one the best keeper in the world is even much more difficult.
To bad last year wasn't good enough, but in the end he's human and perfect doesn't exist. Hope he will go to Man U.
Gr from an Ajax fan, hopefully net year Man U will play for the 1st place 👊
Stay strong Edwin, Ajax Man U and many other clubs thinks of you. Hope you will get better soon.
GOAT sports Man Cristiano Ronaldo ✍️
Ronaldo telling Edwin from the beginning he wanted to be the best player in the world
Makes me wonder if any of our guys now think that way ??
I would say many today either already think they are before accomplishing anything or think they will be. While saying I want to be implies there is work to be done and room for improvement while the others are more of an entitled mentality.
Haaland ..vinicius ..saka probably that's it
No they can’t think that way because they’re crap!

@@josechavolla7186Saka una. Hee’s a bottler he’s just happy to be a professional
It's Jake Humphries. The man is a bonafide idiot.
Or did you expect him to say anything intelligent?
But he's not a pure naturally gifted footballer the calibre of Messi. Ronaldo like everyone says constantly working on his game, fitness, diet, everything.
when most players have a some downtime he's in the gym.
His game was based around speed and power he's never been elegant never been a elite dribbler and he's selfish.
@@leemc5646 Elite dribbler? Ronaldo was an elite dribbler at Man United. Else, why do you think in early 2007, he was being compared with Ronaldinho and Kaka, prompting Ronaldo to tell the media, he didn't think he was as good as those players yet. His game obviously did change when he joined Real Madrid, turning him into a sprint machine and maybe a better scorer too.
@@leemc5646 Mate, he was starting for Portugal and Manchester United at the age of 19.....
How much more was he training then compared to everyone else? He was an immense talent from the jump.
Plus, do you think that Messi also doesn't work on his game, fitness and diet? If you don't think he does then you're a fool.
@@oluronkedasilva5373Agree mate he was definitely a elite dribbler no doubt about that
Would love to see him back at Man U as some capacity. Director, CEO
Think he’ll come back as a goalkeeper coach
Hope everything will be fine, Edwin. Regards an Arsenal fan.
Can’t wait for van der sar to join United this season. ❤
inshallah
You've done more interviews in 1 week than I did in my entire career
I've supported United for 70 years and, IMO, Van De Sarr was the best GK we have had during that time. Through the ranks, real MU players, the best were Jimmy Rimmer, Gary Bailey, David Gaskell. To come, Harrison and Vitek .
5:30 Ronaldo's goat mentality 🔥🐐
Such a legend ❤

my favorite goalkeeper of all times
He is one of the greatest
People mention the offensive players a lot on that ManU team, but their defense was where they were strongest relative to every other team. VDS, Vidic, Evra, Ferdinand, Neville (+Ji Sung Park when assigned as a hit man) were a very hard defense

I think he will return to Man Utd. He has left his job at Ajax. He is Dutch and worked with ETH before and a legend of the club.
I think ETH will request his appointment under the new ownership.

Love how he looks like he drives with his head out the window all the time lol
Great interview, thanks
The way EtH treated Ronaldo poorly, We're sure VDS wouldn't have done the same!
Cruyff would be the last player to kick on goal before the match and he would always kick them in such a way that the goalkeeper could just keep it out, making sure the goalie felt invincible.
How did he feel when Roy Keane put him in this place back then?
Edwin VDS ❤Legend MUFC
He a legend at all clubs he was at. Mainly ajax juve and unted
He was the best man united goalkeeper they have ever had
De Gea is no where near as good as him
Schmeichal?
De gea is the best keeper United have ever had. ❤
@@CEO786 when did you start watching football because there is no way you were watching United during the treble
Peter Schmeichel by a mile
Best GK in my time watching MUFC ❤
Work hard and your extra abilities will shine … stayed with me.

Van Der sar was awesome
Edwin Van Der Sar was interested in football from a very young age.
Ah, a Conhead!

Hard work beats quality, when Quality doesn’t work hard!!
Very smart move from Edwin to do an interview like this, makes people forget a little bit about his terrible director job at Ajax, and of course this is an open sollictation for a job at man united.

Funny how people think Cristiano was born with zero natural talent and skill. Even without the hard work he would’ve been a top player, his touch and flair were not created in the gym..
But not more gifted as messi.
No one is saying he wasn’t gifted but they were more players with innate talent than him even said it himself it’s just no one worked as hard or consistently as him that’s why he is where he is
I have never heard anybody say that Ronaldo was born with zero natural talent.
Can you tell me who said this?
It's just a thing for CR's fans, so when they aware that Messi is better, they have an excuse; 'he's more talented' 🤣
CR was talented in speed, shot power and dribble, it's exciting.
And after he went to Madrid, he became this robotic goal scorer, his playstyle have been boring to me.

I genuinely can't recall United letting in a goal where you thought 'Van der Saar could've done better there'.
