That Girl is one of Maiden's best recorded songs :) listening to these SiT bsides take you to another place. So unique sound and feel, including of course the entire SiT album. One can only appreciate Martin Birch to provide such a unique and special sound to these classic albums. Still miss those days.
Remember the mid-90s CD releases came with a 2nd disc that included the B-sides from the album's respective singles, those were a goldmine. Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son basically had these bonus mini-albums of great material - the 88 versions of the early tracks were great.
"Massacre" was covered as tribute to the one and only Philo Lynott, who died in '86. What a spectacular band! Brian Downey is one of the most underrated drummer of the '70s and on Guitar they had Brian Robertson, Scott Gorham, Gary Moore, Snowy White, John Sykes... one better than the other! All the albums from the decade '74-''83 are absolute classics.
@@michaeldean7220 Obviously it's also one of my favorite live albums ever! Very good covers, and at the end of "Borderline" Hetfield said "Thanks Phil Lynott for writing this song...about my life". Very heartfelt moment!
@@danbal4185 yes that's a very cool moment you can tell James is a big fan. Check out the Slane Castle video of them playing Whisky in the Jar and take note of the colours of the guitars. Also cool as another Lizzy connection as Kirk is playing Gary Moore's 'greeny' les Paul :)
To me, after I heard Reach Out for the first time, I couldn't get the chorus out of my head. It's just so catchy with Bruce's belt in the background and their harmonized vocals.
Thank you for that video! I always loved their B sides! They already played "I´ve got the Fire" live with DiAnno. Released on the "Sanctuary" 4 track EP. "Sheriff of Huddersfield" is actually an old Urchin song called "Life in the City".
The B-Sides are the gems I was happy to get in the Eddie's Archive. Reach Out is still one of my absolute favorite songs to sing along to in the car. Adrian and Bruce always produce gold together
Wow! Really love this video! Just like you I absolutely love Somewhere In Time era, and That Girl was always my favourite B-Side, I never get tired of listening to it. 🤘🏼😎
I always loved some of their B'Sides, i'm so glad to hear someone talking about them. Massacre and Cross Eyed Mary are by far my favorites. Also love the riff from That Girl, I remember passing so much stress trying to figure out that intro without any ear training at all
I love this! Some of my favourite Maiden songs are b-sides. My absolute favourite b-side is Judgement Day. I think it's one of the best songs they did with Blaze, and I am so pleased you included it here. I am definitely one of those who laments the fact that it wasn't on the album. I've always said, as much as I love Sign Of The Cross, this should have opened The X Factor. It kicks ass. Brilliant riffs, solos and vocals.
Hey Nico, do you think sometime you could record a cover or breakdown on That Girl? The whole song is one of my all time absolute favorites, especially Adrian’s outro solo. It’s one of the coolest moments on an Iron Maiden recording I think maybe ever.
From a drummers perspective for me it’s 1. Rainbows Gold 2. I’ve got the fire 3. Juanita 4. King of Twilight 5. All in your Mind. I have all the original pressings. Maiden b-side selection was always a joy to experience, sad they haven’t done any concerted effort to release any new ones in many years. Great channel!!
About the 'Time' B-sides, I read somewhere that it is Adrian playing bass and all guitars on most tracks. What I read is it is the entire band only playing on 'Sheriff'. But, I never resolved that in the back of my mind. It sounds like Steve playing on 'That Girl' & Juanita. But, "Reach Out"? Well, I'm never really sure.
That does seem to be what happened more or less but some things sound like it's not all Adrian so who knows... Memory of events like that can sometimes be a little foggy so who knows 🤷🏻
I always like your videos, Nico the Great! As far as I'm concerned, Twilight Zone was released as B-Side in Italy. That is my favorite one, along with Total Eclipse!
A bit late to the party but I really enjoyed this video. As for my own personal top-5 b-sides it would be as follows in no particular order. I always say SIT is my favorite Maiden album 'cause everything is perfect on it: the songs, the sound, the artwork,... and the b-sides. Reach out is my favourite one, and That girl comes just after.
Amazing as always, and your choices were excellent! That Girl is probably my favorite b-side too, and Judgement Day, Reach Out and I've Got the Fire are definetely killer songs. It's a shame that the band produced so few b-sides since 2000!
Great video, Bro🤗 The last three reminded me of Adrian Smiths solo stuff, which is actually very good. The album Silver and Gold is so very underrated. 80s rock at its best 👌
One thing that doesn´t get mentioned often is that Iron Maiden has been quite good at making access to many of their old b-sides easy through compilations and reissued CDs containing old single releases. Two of my very first Iron Maiden CDs, bought in late 1990, were the singles for Can I Play With Madness/The Evil That Men Do (on one CD) and Stranger in a Strange Land/Wasted Years, also on one CD. Great releases that contain all the relevant b-sides from the original vinyl singles from 1986 and 1988, respectively. The downsides for both CDs are the Listen With Nicko segments that serve as a good reminder of why CD players have a skip button. But the rest of it is top notch stuff, including unknown but great songs written and sung by Adrian Smith. A man of many talents indeed.
Maiden issued remasters of their classic albums in the 90s as two cd packs. The second had all the b sides and live versions of songs in those albums. To me they are the best value for money issues they have ever released.
