- Kelowna Flightcraft Air Charter (Purolator Courier) Convair 580 C-FKFZ is seen taking off from the Kelowna International Airport CYLW for the Vancouver International Airport YVR. It was nice to get to see this classic turboprop built way back in 1954! Convair CV-240
Ohhhh WOW! Convair 580 has become a rare aircraft. Thank you very much for sharing.

Thanks Steve! It's nice to see these older aircraft still being put to good use.

Ya, I agree. It is really nice to still see the classics in action. This was the first time I ever saw a Convair 580 so I was really happy. Thanks for watching and for all the support!
Fantastic footage from this nice smoky takeoff of this great old plane!

Okay, now that's an awesome catch! Really nice shot of this rare aircraft! Sure hope Kelowna Flightcraft will find someplace to put all of their old workhorses to good use once the Purolator/Canada Post contract is done :(
Thanks a lot! Ya, I really hope these classics get to keep flying for many years to come.
Have not seen one of these for a long time. Great captured classic aircraft. Liked a lot mate. :-)
Thanks for watching, I was really happy to see this one.
The are a few CV-580's in New Zealand operated by Air Chathams. They fly scheduled flights from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch to the Chathams. Occasionally they are used for charter flights and have flown into Kerikeri. Videos on my channel of Kerikeri and Wellington.
Hi from NZ,
Anthony.
Such a cool catch !! Nice Kelowna spotting once again !!
Thanks a lot!
Hard to believe they're still flying and working hard!

Thanks a lot, it was nice to see this classic!
Awesome catch and very nice spotting location!
Thanks, this is my favorite location I've found at the airport in Kelowna so far.
BIG-time enjoyed this one! nice work.
Thanks Jay!
LOVE these classic Convair 580s. They've proven to be so doggone useful over the years, I'm wishing they were still in production today. Wouldn't THAT be a hoot? It'd be like the comeback of vinyl audio media.
Thanks for watching, it really is nice to see these classics still going strong!
***** You're welcome. I can also recall when these behemoths were serving at the airport of my hometown and birthplace - Tyler Pounds Regional Airport in Tyler, Texas. Look it up sometime.
Convair 580s are almost as big as 737-200s, and so back when I was a teen in the mid 80's the 580s seemed larger than life. I'm especially amazed by the size of those Allison 501-D13H engines.
Russell Smith I'll look up the airport now. I bet that was quite the sight seeing them in action back then. I was really surprised at how large the Convair 580 was, hopefully I'll see a few more around here soon!
***** Thanks again. And to give you an idea of just how large a 580 is, they're 81ft 6in. long and have a wingspan of 105ft, 4in. Their tail height is 29ft 2in. Their engines produce 3,750-shp each, and provide a range of 1,970 to 2,577 nautical miles. Service ceiling is 20,000 feet.
As for Pounds Regional Airport, it has three runways (all paved), the smallest being only slightly larger than the strip at Key West in Florida. Tyler's 17/35 is 4,850 by 150 feet, while Key West's is 4,800 by 100 feet. The weight-bearing capacity at Key West is quite a bit more, though, since that airport is served by Delta's 737-700's. Tyler's airport will NEVER get 737 service, due to the runways not having the proper weight-bearing capacity.
Russell Smith
Those are some impressive stats for the Convair, and it really is impressively large!
Thanks for the info about Pounds Regional as well, must have been an interesting place to spot at. I checked a couple videos out on RUclips and it looks like it has had some interesting aircraft visiting over the years.
Built in 54, that means that this "old lady" is 60 this year! Happy birthday Convair 580 C-FKFZ, you can turn our heads!! Big Like :-D
Thanks a lot, it was great to see this old aircraft still going strong!
Amazing! :-D
Liked - nice to see this type still flying!

Me too, it's the best spot I've found at the airport in Kelowna so far.
Ahh a classic sound! Super like!
Thanks for watching!
There is one still flying out of south Texas, N24DR
Amazing!
Gostei muito
Thanks for watching!
Awesome!
Thank you !
Do they still fly the convairs?
Actually this was either a Convair 340 or 440. All the Convair 240s that were converted to turboprop power werent robust enuff to handle the Allisons and got the Rolls Royce Dart 10s and were called Convair 600s.
You're right, thanks for the information! I think it was a 340.
***** Youre welcome :)
Kelowna Flightcraft only flys the 727, DC-10 and the Covair 580. I also went in the cockpit of a KF Convair, and the pilot told me that it was a 580
YLWSpotter Yes, but all Convair 580s were once converted from a Piston powered 340 or 440 to become the 580.
Huh, the top tail light hadn't been upgraded to a strobe either.
