Also I'm a dumbass and had my mouse left in the intro but hopefully you can overlook it. I'm not playing School Mode again.

ECGaming School Mode takes place in a separate timeline than the main story, which is why she says that. In his timeline there are no trials and no murders, but in the main story's there are and she does take of her glove.
+ECGaming Yeah, she takes them off to show that her hands had been severely burned during one of her investigations as a rookie detective. It was to prove that she wasn't the Mastermind and wasn't trying to kill Makoto while he was stuck in bed with the flu. Come to think of it, I wonder how he deals with what he discovered about Kyoko.

Aren't women usually supposed to take their husband's last name though?
People seem to think of Kyoko as more masculine which I actually don't see myself but it doesn't much sense for that to change the fact that it's most common for a woman would take their husband's last name. That's just what I believe though, lol.

Alright, if you want an oddly serious reply... By Japan's current societal laws, it isn't a requirement that the wife take her husband's surname. It is very common, but for a small percentage it's the opposite. If any couple would be that 4%, I'd think it'd be them since the Kirigiri name means a lot to Kyouko, after all. It has nothing to do with seeing her as masculine, as I don't think physical and mental toughness is limited to gender.
As for your assumption that a wife always takes the husband's last name, it isn't true. There are many places where spouses keep their own surnames. Personally, I'd be fine with taking my wife's surname if I married. Unless it was terrible, then idk lol.

@@hibikistherapist Japan isn't China. A married couple must have one surname, whether it's the husband's or wife's. Currently, that's the law of Japan. And again, while the wife usually takes the husband's surname, there are exceptions and it wouldn't be a surprise if this was one of them. The biggest reasons for the husband taking the wife's surname has to do with family legacy and business. Kirigiri has both of those, Naegi does not. My original post was a joke, but let it be said it was not an unresearched one.

Eh, this is just an optional ending for a secondary mode they added when the game was rereleased on Vita in Japan. The game itself doesn't indulge in these sort of things outside this ending much at all.
