You clearly did not read OPM manga. There's a panel that Bang and Bomb ask if they can withstand that kind of damage Garou has and he said yes, if he was 60 years younger. Basically, they cannot withstand what Garou has been through because of age.
It's not based on throwing hands, but on countering, dodging, and parrying all attacks and even redirecting the enemy's fist into their own face sometimes. Fighting is always violent but for a martial art you could say it is pretty non-violent in comparison.
