  • I have been playing ukulele since January 2016. This instrument was one of the first instruments that I bought, after seeing one at Guitar Center. This is a very popular ukulele, and while I like it, I find it more challenging to play because it has more tension than my other ukuleles, even though the set-up is good.

I tend to tune most of my ukes a 1/2 step or whole step down, especially tenors. That loosens the tension, and gives it a mellower tone. The tenor is long enough in scale to use a capo if you need to play in C tuning. Or, try different string sets to get lower tension. Nice review!

I do know I prefer concert scale; I do have some lower tension strings, but looking at a comparison chart on Ukulele Underground, there really isn’t that much difference between the light tension brands.
I also don’t like changing tuning because of the work that I do with the play alongs and tutorials and teaching (classroom ukulele). I can’t be in one key while a class or video is in another. I can’t transpose that quickly, and students watch your hands!

Nice! I’m always amazed how how loud these arched back ukuleles can be. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for you candid reviews. I have learned to turn to you for straightforward advice. Please note however that the correct pronunciation is 'Kah Lah', not "Kay Lah."

You are very welcome. I’m not sure where Kay Lah comes from, as I say Kah-lah most of the time.
Maybe we should discuss how to say “ukulele”? :)

It does have a pocket. in the top inside of the bag.

Enjoyed that as I've never played a travel uke. Great review Chris!
