- We spend 3 nights in December 2021 at Stonehenge Campsite and Glamping on a bronze hardstand pitch. Trev walks around the campsite and takes a brief look at the camping areas, facilities and glamping pods. When asked the question "Was it worth it ?" we will allow you to make your own mind up, but our experience costing £96.00 for 3 nights was certainly beyond our expectation for this site and the surprise additional cost to park our car was not shown on their website. This additional charge seemed excessive and unnecessary. We have written to the owners of this campsite with our concerns about their electric hook-ups and other issues and we await their response.

Thanks for watching our videos. We include all things to do with motorhomes, campervans, van conversions, caravans and the great outdoors. We mainly tour the UK and camp around 80 nights per year in our 2021 IH Motorhomes N-680 CRL luxury VW Crafter van conversion. We offer advice, tips and tricks, review campsites and associated products or services. We also occasionally make videos about other trips we take without the motorhome.

Kinda cool that someone recognized you! The new site looks nice too.
We do meet quite a few people who know us and it’s fun to exchange stickers too. 😃 Trev
Well done for being honest about the issues you had with that site. Such a shame, it looked very nice. Let's hope you get a response from the owners.
I hate being negative Bob but I have to be honest. We are having a little break at home this week and poor Smirf is feeling abandoned 😆 Trev
@@PoshcatsCamping not as abandoned as Thor is feeling though. Been home waaaaaay too long.
@@BobEarnshawMoHo not long now Bob. Sue and I wish you both a happy new year 🥳
Thats for that Trev saves us going there great vid 😉
I have to be honest, I don’t think we would go back. Take care Paul 🙂 Trev
I love that tiny glamping cabin lol. The price did seem a tad on the expensive side. Sounds like some of the resort camping prices over here. We stay away from those places. We like cheap. We like free even more LOL. That one little camper trailer was cute. The red and white one with the pop top. Too cute! No doggie bins? That's silly. You would think that would be something they would want to have. You know most of our campgrounds don't have separate doggie bins. Least any of the ones we've been to. It all goes in the same place as the garbage. But it's awesome you got to get out and camp even though it may not have been the best spot ever. :)
This campsite formed part of a winter tour as you know. I think it may be suited to summer camping and glamping rather than winter motorhoming. We have to be honest in our vlogs and although we have only had 3 poor campsites out of 101 nights camping this year, this site was one of the most expensive and didn’t prove to be value for money. I don’t get pleasure from negative vlogs and in one case this year I decided not to film our experience at all 🙁 Trev
Happy New Year to you all, have a wonderful year looking forward to your adventures. xx
Thanks Linda, Happy New Year 🥳 Trev n Sue
It looked like a decent campground. I especially like that it’s gated. That’s a nice added safety feature I wish more parks had here in the states. Those roads are so tight, though! You did a fantastic job navigating, as always.
Thanks guys, we were very careful not to drive on the grass. The roads are all narrow in the villages and hence we are enjoying our smaller van. Happy New Year to you all 🥳 Trev
looked an ok site i will try next year we have never been to stone henge keep the good blogs comming thanks
Hi Steve, it’s a nice site but not worth £96 for three nights. It’s not that close to Stonehenge so you will need to take your van unless you like a long hike 😀 Trev
Fair review Trevor and Sue. Quite expensive for not a lot of anything😏. Take care and all best wishes for 2022. Ruth
Thanks Ruth 🙂 Happy New Year 🥳 Trev
Hi Trev, looked a nice site although seemed a little close together if you know what I mean. That’s not good about charging for your car. Hope you get a response shortly xx
I don’t like being negative but I do have to be honest. Thanks for watching Julie 🙂 Trev
Loved the double decker, but why did Cliff Richard come to mind 🤔LOL
LOL no sign of Una Stubbs either 😉 Trev
Does seem expensive and a ridiculous charge to park your car. I've been on plenty 5 van sites at £20.00 per night, or less, on hard standing with drinking water and grey waste on every pitch. We tend to only use Caravan and Motorhome Club CL's now, as they are quiet and many are open all year, with toilet and shower facilities.
You are right about CL sites. I don’t think I have ever found a bad one. They are all different and in recent times have shown the bigger sites how it’s done. 😀👍🏻 Happy New Year 🥳 Trev
Liking the glamping pods, very cool indeed. x
Yes the double decker bus was very appealing and the little baby one at the bottom of the site would be great for kids 😃 Trev
@@PoshcatsCamping I bet the double decker is awesome inside :o)
Nice campground. I like the little information signs. How loud is the heavy rain when you’re inside Smirf?
Very unique looking glamping pods. I think they’re called Yurts 🛖 over here. 👍😊💕
We have found the heavy rain is quieter in Smirf than in our previous van. In the UK we usually call luxury tents Yurts 🛖 ⛺️ Happy New Year 🥳 Trev
You need to check out the drove which is the road next to stone hedge, free to park, stay as long as you want, I am currently parked there tonight
We saw the vans there but we had our car with us and wanted facilities. We would like to give the drove a try sometime 👍🏻🙂 Trev
Looks a great place not visited stone henge since 2004 must visit again hope christmas was a good one for you both all the best donny
We had a great time thanks Donny. Looking forward to getting the van out again next week. Happy New Year 🥳 Trev n Sue
Really useful balanced review Trev. On face value, the site looked nice but some good points of improvement you raised, shame about the grey water and dog walk, shocked at what they charged for the car - it’s quite surprising the differences between sites on those kind of things (dogs, cars, etc). I also found it interesting this year with having to cancel what I had booked where some sites were amazing and some clearly just out for money , fortunately so far it seems to be the minority in the latter category. -I hope you get a response from the site and they do something to improve for the future. All the best, David 👍
We had issues with changing dates and you are spot on, some sites are so very helpful and others are not. We have lost confidence with some of the privately owned sites this year and I think we have learned a few things too. Happy New Year David 😃👍🏻🥳 Trev
It was a shame they felt the need to charge for the car, especially when it was £27 for the pitch and as you said, a quiet time of year. I wonder if they charge for a caravan and another £15 for their car. A bigger issue for me is no grey water disposal and no dog bins because we have three dogs! Until you mentioned those issues I also thought it looked like a really nice campsite! Thanks for sharing.
I think this particular site needs to concentrate on their summer camping and glamping and change the way they work with their winter customers. The good news is that we rarely have problems. 😀 Happy New Year Sylvia 🥳 Trev
Sucks that they don't have any dog walks and the electric wasn't good. They should definitely let people know if they are going to charge to park a car too.
Yes we agree. Seems they don’t like people bringing extra vehicles. Roadways were not particularly spacious so I guess that’s why 🤷🏼♂️ Trev
Not somewhere that will be going on our “like to visit” list. Even putting aside the fee for parking Ethel (they are obviously in it for the money! - customer service seems lion thru site’s list of priorities). We feel that it was a lot to pay for the standard of facilities provided (or not provided!).
Another informative and helpful video - thanks guy. Xx
I try to be fair with my Vlogs and like I said, we liked the look of the web site and booked well in advance. There were issues with changing dates and then the extra charges for the car. In our opinion this site should be priced at around £20 per night (not £32 pn). 🙂 Happy New Year 🥳 Trev
Lovely SIte £15 to park your car is not on as most do have a tow car. So overall not high on list to return too.
I would go further and say I will never return. Let’s just say it’s the little things that count. I could afford the £15 and the £27 pn fee and under normal circumstances I would have willingly paid £1 for showers. This site does not have transparent charges on its website 🚐 Trev
@@PoshcatsCamping I think we serve this site too. We all enjoy getting away with getting to a site to find there are further charges.
yes I agree, £5 to park the car is just a rip off, we've stopped at lovely municipal campsites for little more than that!! even stopped at aires in lovely French villages, with electric, hard standing and all facilities for free.
Some sites are looking for more and more reasons to take our money. Charging for cars, dogs, children and size of rig is just a way of driving their profits up. Let’s see what happens in 2022 with costs and inflation rising 🤨 Trev
@@PoshcatsCamping well hopefully if covid allows, we’ll be back in our beloved France to spend our money, better value and much better choices, at least we’re relatively free to stop without being moved on by some jobs worth🤣🤣🤣
@@curlyboyHymerB584 great plan, we are thinking along those lines 😉
@@PoshcatsCamping we’ve been motorcaravaning in France for almost fifty years😳and have almost always had a warm reception, providing you speak French, which is always appreciated, I can only recall once being treated with disdain because my French wasn’t perfect, but the being from London neither is my English🤣🤣🤣
I camp a lot,but also go into travelodges ,just got 2 nights in Edinburgh for 2 for £35.
We used to do that when we owned a caravan but it’s much easier to be spontaneous with a van and since Covid we have just used our van. We are thinking of a Valentine’s break in a hotel just for a change 🙂 Trev
We've also stayed there and weren't impressed, paid through a booking site that said gazebo was included in the price, but they insisted, when I asked on arrival at the site, that it was £8 a night extra.....The staff attitude was rude, glad we were only booked in for one night.
We thought we were the only ones. Seems we were not. There appear to be unwritten rules at this site which spoilt our visit. Such a shame as they have a good position and setting in Wiltshire. Thanks for your feedback and safe travels 👍🏻😃 Trev
@@PoshcatsCamping It is a shame. You definitely weren't the only one.
Happy new year guys, thanks for the - we’ve done this so you don’t have to vid - I can’t help but think some sites are turning into rip-off Britain candidates and calling themselves a Stonehenge campsite is a bit of a stretch with a 15 minute drive, I’ll stick to the Drove.
Yes it’s a bit strong I agree. Mother always used to say mutton dressed as lamb 🤣 but they claim to be multi award winning so perhaps it’s just me ?! 🤷🏼♂️ Take care 👍🏻 Trev
I don’t understand the charge for the car. You are no bigger than a caravan and car, or do they charge for the car if you are in a caravan? Take care Gill
I told the warden that I have only been asked for a parking fee of £2 once before. Just like last time, he said it was the owners rule. As we had no prior warning there was no choice but to pay the fee. I think it was totally unjustified and was not a good first impression. Particularly as there was plenty of space to park the little car nearer to the pitch. 🙂 Happy New Year Gill 🥳.
hi i have a windows laptop can yo advise on what software you use for your vloging I have just had a xmas present from my lovely wife a sony zv-e10 camera but the software with it is sonys and i do not like it cant use it may be its my age coming 62 and my wife coming 63
any advise will be much appreciated
Hi Steve, I use Davinci Resolve 17 for editing but it’s not for the faint hearted and you may want to try something a little less complicated if you are just starting up. There are a number of videos on RUclips for novice vlogging with some great guidance. Your Sony camera should provide some great results and again RUclipsrs reviews on the camera may help you. It’s such a broad topic I recommend you start by creating a few short videos and build up your skills as you go along. I am still very basic with editing after 3 years of practice. It’s more about the content anyway. If you get some good shots and you can tell a short story your vlogging will get good views. Sometimes I just throw a video together and it becomes more popular than the ones I take a lot of time over 😃 good luck 🤞 👍🏻 Trev
@@PoshcatsCamping thanks hope to meet up with you some time ,i wish you happy holidays and new year thanks for the advice
Sorry thar site was so bad I said to my husband Smurf is no bigger than a caravan so why charge for Ethel I find that disgusting enjoy your New Year festivities 🥂🚐🥃🍺
Thanks Anne. It doesn’t come natural for me to be negative in my vlogs. Honesty is the best policy though. 🙂 Happy New Year 🥳 Trev
Ahhh this was the site....
Yes that was the site 😃 Lovely site BUT £££ 🙁
dont think ill be going to that site thanks for the vlog
It’s not the worst site but I did think that paying £5 per night for my car was strange, particularly. We live and learn 😀 Trev
What a total rip off, £27 a night at this time of year and then have the cheek to charge you another £15 for the car. I'm sorry but I wouldn't be going back there. Enjoy your time ;))
Agree, particularly as we had to use our own LPG for gas and heating due to low voltage on the hook-up 🤷♂️ Still no response to my email to the site. Happy New Year Stew 🥳 Trev
I’ll say it.
The site owner is a rob dog. If it wasn’t advertised as a separate fee charging to park a car is unfair, especially as you say with an empty site. Poor show on their behalf I feel!
🤣🤣 It seems to be the case 😉 Trev
