Yeah, right as he was starting to figure out how to do it. All it needed were some canards on the front and we would have had liftoff from a runway. But nah, let's just use the wings to do "the usual" that we see in literally every other Car Pal vid.
Fun fact. IRL wings are angled up slightly so that rolling forward on the runway provides better lift, and once adequate lift is achieved it gently rises away from the runway with minimal or no elevator input nessisary. The setup his cars had here mimic some of the airforces expiremental jets of the 60's where they put short straight wings on trying to maximize top speed to a rediculous level and the program culminated in the SR-71's creation by the 70's.
00:45 that's called FORCE ELIMINATION. Your wings (creation of upward force) and the spoiler (creation of downward force), hence eliminating the forces
the only reason it didnt fly at first is cause youre missing the horizontal and vertical stabilizers, mainly the horizontal that counteracts the momentum created by the main wing, but anyways this was fun to watch
You need to have the centre of gravity in front of the centre of lift, otherwise your "aircraft" will be unstable and won't fly without a flight control system.
To be fair, they are a bad idea. You can't trust dumbasses to take driving a multi-ton death machine seriously while on the ground, could you imagine what would happen in the air? God forbid a teen girl behind the wheel getting a text while at cruising altitude.
Besides the wing, you need the horizontal stabilizer at the rear end with elevators to control the pitch of the vehicle. The wings only provide you lift with roll control. You'll also need a tailfin... or vertical stabilizer for yaw control. Otherwise you'll just end up somersaulting all the way.
I'd like to see a whole video on crazy stuff with the Devel 16, but I can't exactly think of what specific content to do. I guess I'd like to see it go off ramps at max speed, take loop-the-loops and that sort of thing, but you're recent content is so much more crazy, I don't know if a video like that would perform well by comparison.
The vehicle's nose has a tendency to go up because the wings are attached too far forwards. You need to move the wings slightly behind the center of gravity for stability. However, this can result in a situation where the vehicle cannot take off, because the tail needs to be well behind the rear wheel in order to push the back down into a "wheelie". Another solution would be to place the control surfaces at the front of the vehicle so it can lift the nose up instead of pushing the tail down.
it needs: main wings that are able to bend to absorb the g forces, back wings for better flying and vertical stabilizer so the car doesnt go to the sides and you can control it bia rudder pedals and even with all that you still need some engines to push you on the air because if not you fall down or just glide.
You have to add flaps, Which help Lift the “Aircraft” In this case, a car, Up into the air, and then you need a vertical stabilizer, and make the horizontal one more long. And make The wings more structurally stable.
Small planes actually take off at lower than 100mph. Heck some old Saabs (the kind of 50s teardrop shaped ones) would lift the rear off the ground if they got up to 70mph because of how aerodynamic with no down force they were.
You should add a rudder or vertical stabiliser and a 2nd pair of shorter wings behind the main wings, known as the horizontal stabiliser. The main wings should be controlling roll at the tips of the wings and and the horizontal stabiliser should control pitch. I hope this helps 😊
Something to keep in mind: a nose-heavy plane doesn't fly well, but a tail heavy plane only flies once. Both the Porsche and the devel has the engine in the back...
Speed: Okay, let's fly. Wings: Weeee...lesgoooo... Lift: I think we've enough to fly. Gravity: This is gonna be good. Devel's downforce: Fuuuuck.... Youuuuu...
The wings have to be in a special form that make the aerodynamic force (or whatever its called) behind the center of mass, that way it can be more easily controlled and more stable, also add rudders and stabilisers, with that all done yo car will fly.
In all these cars the center of lift is far ahead of the center of mass. Move the wings back. Also add canards and a tailplane for stability. And if you have to wait till more than 125-140mph to take off in such a small vehicle then the wings are far too weak. Good luck on getting them to fly, also most planes that size weight no more than 1500-2000lbs so choose a lightweight car.
I would love to see a part 2 but with tail rudders to maybe help it fly? Like make it like an actual plane with the rear wing and then ofc the ordinary wings used in this one
I think the down force messes with the lift generated by the wings. It could be an interesting test to find out which car has an optimal point of both forces in certain speed
The end was a great example of why a helicopter works! Except the one wing would need to be pointed backwards to exactly match a helicopter's blades. _(technically, you'd use two of the _*_same_*_ wing)_ That could be another video... Using wings to try and turn everything into a helicopter! 😅 Maybe rip the engines from the Me-262 and strap them to the wing tips... Or the JATO pods from the bus, that might be easier _(although, their angled nozzle might complicate matters)_ Oh! And make a Test Dummy "Buzz Lightyear", with a JATO jetpack 😅
I like how you gave up on trying to fly halfway through the video and then just started using the wings to mow things down.
Yeah, right as he was starting to figure out how to do it. All it needed were some canards on the front and we would have had liftoff from a runway.

you should add a vertical stabiliser next time so that the car 'flys' in a straight line :)
Yea there are no horizontal stabalizers
He has no understanding of aerodynamics, needs horizontal stabilizer, even then it’s probably too unstable to fly

In order to test this theory I’ve decided to drive straight into a building at top speed

Nothing appropriate for creating lift in this video. Perhaps maintaining supersonic flight, but that’s a stretch too.

The only thing it need is a spoiler and multiple aerodynamic issues.

just a bit of a concept of center of gravity and he'll be off to the races
You need to have the centre of gravity in front of the centre of lift, otherwise your "aircraft" will be unstable and won't fly without a flight control system.
