so did the fact that it had less space inside than cars from a class below, most people need their hot hatches to be practical and do everything which is why they traditionally are fwd.. i don't like it either, but honestly, the previous generation was awful dynamically. the fact that it was rwd meant nothing on its own, it was very heavy and rolled like a pig, even the sporty versions. it did allow for some amazing tuning, though, which i love. in reality, if you're not the guy who would drift around the roundabouts, you probably don't need a rwd hot hatch :)
@@MyRealName Yeah, but it had a unique selling point. And it had potential. Now it has no USP and it's just in the middle of the pack for a premium prize.

I recall they did a survery of some sort, maybe they asked one person or jst suvs owners.
Hi, I have a 128Ti. In fact, the difference in the speedometer was considerable (I remember 140 Km / h => 133 Km / h GPS) but after the software update the speedometer is VERY PRECISE! The difference is CONSTANT 😳 + 1Km / h at all speeds (GPS, I measured up to 150 Km / h). Hope to test it on the autobahn!

I'm not sure,but i think that they're really recycling all in all the mini jcw but just changing the design,considering that it's fwd and that the 6 cyl got replaced by the 4 cyl...

Thanks for displaying the speed in mph too. I have been multiplying kph by .62 in all your videos, but for this one not needed. Love your videos.
They could have kept the longitudinal engine mouting position, simply put this four banger in the RWD layout. It would have been a nice alternative to the Golfs in the market and it would have still met the lower pricetag, emissions, maintenance and consumption compared to the 6 cyl. But they just made a less capable Golf R. The market is kind of saturated with AWD 4 cyl hatches.
This would have been a literal modern remake of the 318ti and would have been awesome.
The proposition of your typical modern 2.0t hatch with RWD dynamics. It would have been a massive win win.

The engine pulls quite well in this one. I have G20 330i, same engine, with stage 1 I'm getting @12.85s 100-200 km/h.
Drove it around Imola circuit, and honestly it was very funny to drive! Way better than the m135i

The red details kinda gives me a BMW 2002 Ti vibes, it only lacks the "turbo" written backwards and the black grille.

Ti = Total irre? Max, about the color and the flaps: just went into the configurator, a black Ti also has red flaps. Also, the default grill is black. So what did you have there, special dutch model?

Great car. Fitted with adaptive dampers would be even better as a daily driver.
I have mine for two month. The best (or the only) premium hot hatch. The offers in Switzerland are very good, i.e. I paid less than for the competitors (VW, Renault, Hyundai). I dont drive more than 140km/h in Switzerland so i don't care about the top speed. Even on a race track you won't reach a lot more than 200km/h. It drives really good, I don't need more. For the race track, I rent a GT3.
Had mine delivered on Tuesday. Comes with Bridgestone Turanza T005 tyres. Mines a lease so didn't get a chance to spec the performance tyres. I'm very happy with the car though and I like the red accents, gives the car its own identity and a little bit of character. Not sure why the performance tyres aren't installed as standard and is a no cost option. Doesn't make sense when BMW are usually so sensible.
How is your experience so far with the default tyres? I've just ordered my 128ti on Thursday and I didn't choose the sport tyres because of the cost they add and also the salesman didn't recommended them, he said that they are more slippery on wet conditions.
If you have any info on that, that would be also nice.

Replace them, then you can put them on. The turanzas are fine in wet and dry. Have t had any issues so far and they actually come out really well in reviews. I'm happy
@@lgray63 Thanks for the information. I'm in Germany, so it's probably a country dependent option. Because whatever review video I watched on RUclips was mentioning as a non-cost option and apparently most of them from UK :)

You keep teasing videos around everything BUT the Clubsport mk8. Also, have someone who knows how to set up the hot buttons for a VW Golf and show you the shortcuts before you review it. I'm still curious what you'd think of it.
I quite like it, but that front grille is something I could never accept.

Most new BMW car owners can't do a donut and would die if they turn off dsc. I don't understand the hate. You can buy M2 if you don't like this.

When I get money, this sounds stupid af but I wanna kit out my Chevrolet Sonic LS with a performance air filter, performance exhaust, and a tune. Right now the fastest I've been able to get up to stock is 212 km/h on the 1.8L 4 cylinder
I still do not like this car. The new 1 series remains horrendous.
Cupras still have small grill and they are the best looking vechiles in the world rn (new), only rivalled by DS imo.
Its design team is such *a legend.

Put some 19" wheels on there with the right aspect ratio tyres, to correct the speedo, and it'll do its top speed, and will look better on 19's.
I suspect it‘s really limited to 238.
Had a 123d and later an 125d. Both did 250 kph speedo but they were both limited to 238 kph GPS. No matter which tyres they were on.

There’s a lot more car in the new 1 series than the previous model , you can actually compare it to its competitors such as the golf , a class , A3 in terms of size. Rear looks super aggressive and the front actually match’s the hatchback design. However , the grills on the new 3 and 4 series looks absolute horrible.

I dont doubt that its a good and fun to drive car (considering the reviews, in Greece its not a well known car so i haven't driven it), but it doesn't accelerate as fast as its specs promise. I suppose its limited by the ECU and you can "unlock the beast" by a reflash or an update. Why did they do that from the factory? Co2 emissions maybe idk? 🤔 Btw TI budges are beautiful but the chromium grille is like you are in 2000's 😅

The only thing you hear is the sound of a crying catalyst combined to a soundgenerator, like all other cars have on this years. BMW also made it to a full golf with a better gear box, cut down the rwd and made some stickers on it to look something special at least. Those are very dark times in the automobil history....

I think I must be the only person who thinks the shadowline gloss black grille looks hideous, unless it is on a dark colour, esp black cars. I don't particularly like the silver, but Celium works well esp on lighter colours, though not sure about white. I just think the gloss black looks like some cheap aftermarket thing some boy racer would stick on their car to make it look more shit than the manufacturer made.
You're not the only one as i too find that with the black grille - often looks wrong on white but fine on red & such. Sometimes the chrome surround with black slats work as i find it goes with the headlights and silver wheels.
But in any case i thought the ti only came with a black grille, or is that just for UK spec?

How would you compare this car to an Audi S3 of the previous generation (8V)?
The 128ti has less power but overall it's more modern with features like a Head-up Display and (I think) a better Entertainment System. The Interior quality ideed is the Audi A3 8V top of the range in my mind.
In terms of road performance the S3 is of course better than the BMW, but not very much. (besides 0-100)

As an M140i owner, I really cannot grow to like the new 1 series.
It's just a MINI in a slightly boring new dress, and it doesn't inspire me to own one, not even slightly.
Can't see me selling my M140i anytime, unless I can afford an m2C. So, I'll just keep tuning my M140i fk it :-))
MINI's are the most fun FWD cars, don't insult MINI. But this whale is 1400kg and FWD and is ugly af. A real BMW is supposed to be RWD and have a longitudinal engine. This FWD BMW looks ugly because its FWD with a transverse engine and a short bonnet/hood. I prefer the old 1 series.

MINI's are pretty huge, heavy, and not 'fun' at all. The original Mini was fun.
Now, a Honda Integra is a 'fun' FWD car.

I agree on BMW's though, for me, a proper BMW is RWD with a straight 6.

Mostly for your own safety, you can opt to remove it if you want. Except Germany, going that fast is illegal anyway.

It's psychological: I'll probably never drive my car to (example) 300 km/h but I'm happier to know it can reach it rather than knowing that it's being limited to 250
@@_duncan_2001_ I wanted to say the same thing, only in Germany your are allowed to go that fast legally, everywhere else, the 250 km/h limit is illegal anyway.
Whatever bmw is currently doing in the design and aesthetics department someone needs to speak up against the head of design that enough is enough!
the sales figures are better than the competitors, so the majority does like the design or doesnt care that much ;-)

Had a test drive in the 2022 128ti today, with the view to buy it’s drives really nice unitll, my friend Jim the salesman said I can floor it in sports mode ,
Bad idea when I put my foot down from a slow speed the steering is terrible,, the front wheel drive is terrible on this car and due to the power it don’t help it , plus it drives nothing like a BMW Am 47 now and My first car was a bmw E21 323i w reg. always owned BMW’s and I even had a e36 compact 316ti at some point, so when I see bmw do something like this with there one series and put a Ti badge on the back it’s a crying shame.
I won’t be buying this 1 series now due to this...
I prefer my 3060Ti :)
