He was 21 and it was his 1st yr of National fame. 82% of TVs were tuned into his 1st appearance the month before. Elvis is the greatest singer/performer ever. He also starred in 31 movies and later performed in Vegas. Check out is performance on Sullivan of Ready Teddy, on Sept 8, 1956. Sullivan said earlier in the year, that he’d never have that vulgar singer on his show. Less, than 2 months later, Elvis was paid a record sum for 3 appearances on the show. He sang several songs during each of those 3 appearances. In 1973, Elvis did the 1st satellite TV show, watched by a billion and half people Worldwide. Elvis, Graceland home is the 2nd most visited home in America.
He was so genuine. He was ELVIS. We loved him.

“Trying to get to you”, “heartbreak hotel”, “if I can dream” are all great ones from the 68 comeback special! “Love me” on the Ed Sullivan show is also a great one!!
While this song is a pretty standard rockabilly song, it was a fresh, new sound at the time. Also, it's meant as a song for swing dancing. It's not meant to show off his vocals. But the man could sing like nobody's business. He also played guitar, bass, and piano (and a bit of ukulele, bongo drums, and accordion).
He was the first and that’s why those of us who were just coming into our teens at that time still remember and love him. His influence on music cannot be overstated. He started it all. There were singers and musicians in the black community who were doing similar performances but Elvis broke the colour barrier. He had the personality, the talent, the looks, the voice and cared about his fans. Miss him to this day.❤
These are the screams of a couple hundred teenagers (maybe) in a small TV studio with an older crowd there as well. Imagine when he played to 20,000. That's why he had to stop touring in 1957. The crowds were unmanageable.

Elvis was the ultimate performer. He also believed God had blessed him and he had a debt to repay for that. He spent the rest of his life trying to help people and stand up for what was right. He gave away so much of his fortune that when he died his estate was estimated at $5 million, which sounds like a lot, but considering that he’d made over $100 million… “That’s All Right”, “Trying To Get To You”, “Lawdy Miss Clawdy”, “Baby, What’d You Want Me To Do”, or “If I Can Dream” from the ‘68 TV special are good places to start to see what he had going on.
He was unique. More Elvis please. I recommend " Elvis and the black community that eco will never die". It's very interesting.
Elvis had and was IT!
There will never be another performer or person like him: talented, charismatic, handsome, smart, funny, loyal, loving, kind, and a big philanthropist. Ed Sullivan once said he would never have a "vulgar" person like Elvis on his show, and yet before Elvis went to Germany in the Army, Sullivan announced on his show that Elvis was the perfect gentleman, and the nicest person he'd ever had on his show -- and that parents should know that he was an "OK" young man. That was HUGE back then. I was fortunate to see Elvis in concert and it was the most amazing experience! (Yes, I was once a screaming 16 yr old girl, and I lost my voice for days after screaming at his concert!) He put on a SHOW, and his charisma and love for his fans carried across that concert center, and all around the world. I've loved him since I was 5, and now I play his music with my granddaughters. Elvis was a trailblazer, and can never be replaced as the King of Rock & Roll!

yeah definitely check out the 1968 Comeback Special concert finale, and the white suit and red tie, if I can dream, attribute to Martin Luther King who had been assassinated in his hometown just a few months before and just in general addressing the assassination of Bobby Kennedy and just all the intense racial strife that was going on at that point in time in the late sixties. and if you think about it it's like 13 years later but he still looks young compared to just 8 or so years later close to before he died. it's probably one of his best performances ever. they wanted him to end it with a Christmas song cuz it was supposed to be a Christmas special but this was right when he was sick and tired of being told what to do and after Dr King got assassinated, Elvis really wanted to do something meaningful so he went to one of his key songwriters and told him about that and this guy came up with the song almost on the spot. he knew Elvis well and he knew just how torn up he was about the assassination and just all the agony and strife in general. when Elvis first heard a quick demo of it he immediately decided this was it. this was how to end the Christmas special. he had been in mostly movies for years and hadn't performed live a whole lot and so that's what it means by comeback and boy when he came back, he just exploded again. but he was like 20 years old in this video that you reacted to right now. but you got to listen to if I can dream. shows you how much passion and soul and intelligence and emotion and just how much you really cared. I'm confused because I thought you had reacted to Elvis before and that that's probably how I found your Channel so that's strange. if that's right, there is so much great I was to check out both early stuff and particularly later stuff but they are really great performances with great bands. even those early days like right there he had a great band and often had the Jordanaires with him, who were a famous backing singing group out of Memphis doing that doowap stuff. but as tragic as it is that his manager locked him into exclusively a contract to do several shows in Vegas each year for several years to make a whole bunch of money to cover for his gambling debts. it deprived Elvis of doing what he really wanted to do which was to her Europe and Japan because they all wanted him to tour but it turns out his manager, Colonel Tom parker, was an illegal alien and knew that if he left the United States he could get arrested and extradited or whatever. that's why he set up the huge Hawaii show for him via satellite in 1973 which was a huge success and it put Elvis off complaining about not being able to tour. Still, those Vegas shows, especially the earlier ones starting in 1970 are just mind boggling in the scope and scale of it. his voice had grown much more operatic by then and he was so happy to be back doing live stuff in front of audiences that he just thrived, at least in that aspect of his life. so many good ones to check out. the white jumpsuit version of him doing suspicious minds in Vegas I think in 1970, it's iconic. and the sound is really pretty good with that huge band and two choirs and he arranges all that stuff and directs it live while he's dancing. it's just a tour de force and it shows you how athletic he really was even as a guy in his thirties at that point. we all saw it when he was 20 years old but wow. it got way better.
Oh yeah, the irony of this contrast between Elvis hearing this newly Written song for him and immediately knowing he had to do it versus Colonel Tom Parker hearing the first Elvis demo of it and immediately announcing to the room, no no no, this is not the kind of music for Elvis. What a total scumbag.
Totally agree with everything you said 👍 can't stand Col Parker, what a weasel he was esp after in Vegas he signed Elvis's life in Vegas for 7 yrs , I really believe the Col actually led to Elvis's poor health too and eventual death 🤍
@@antoniettemusolino1317 I agree and I would also throw his doctor and his spiritual advisor into that equation. I think they managed to get close to Elvis but were more concerned with their own interests than his, ultimately.
In the beginning he was banned from radios and condemned from pulpits. It was his charisma, delivery of songs, looks etc that just made teenagers adore him while parents hated him. In " Elvis and the Black community" you will find a little bit.

Elvis had a great combo of good-boy reputation (grandma's boy type) and bad-boy looks and charm, plus some great marketing. He's a great example of the ESFP personality type - they are natural entertainers. Other famous ESFP people include Marilyn Monroe, Will Smith, Cameron Diaz and Katy Perry.

Well measured reaction to one of his lesser performances IMHO. You will find if you go down the Elvis rabbit hole this is the tiniest tip of the iceberg, and as other reactors who do remark, we never knew he was that good a performer and singer. One song to start with and being seen by millions on RUclips is 'If I Can Dream' from the 1968 TV Special which was a tribute to Martin Luther King.

You really need to review the song " Trying to Get to You" from his 1968 comeback special. That song showcases Elvis' voice so much more...no dance moves!

He tamed down his act for national TV because of the controversy. He was banned in several cities.
Ed Sullivan initially declined to have him on in the early days. Elvis was polarizing and adults hated him. Mr Sullivan felt compelled to defend him:
At the end of the show Ed Sullivan went out of his way to compliment Presley, “I wanted to say to Elvis Presley and the country that this is a real decent, fine boy, and wherever you go, Elvis, we want to say we’ve never had a pleasanter experience on our show with a big name than we’ve had with you. So now let’s have a tremendous hand for a very nice person!” With that endorsement, Elvis Presley bowed, was clearly appreciative and exited the Sullivan stage for the last time.”

I saw that in 1956 when I was 6 years old on TV. But they only showed the top of him. They did not show his dancing.

The Southern accent in the U.S. is seen as either illiterate and someone lacking in common sense, or sophisticated and gentlemanly/ladylike, depending on the context. Elvis helped people see Southerners and Westerners (similar culture and accent) as not a backwards people. For instance, he made a lot of movies that were set in the South or the West (in others, he was from the South but moved). Some of the movies are about poverty and the struggle in the South or the West.

Elvis was absolutely amazing at that time. He had it all. He grew so much in his music and performance, but in my opinion he could have done more of not for his scammer manager Tom Parker. He held him back from what he knew would send him over the top. Elvis was about the music, the art, Tom Parker was about the money. He had talent that no one has.

Elvis was before my awareness of music, but my older Aunts and Cousins made sure I knew who he was. Little did they know, I had gone the way of Led Zeppelin & Pink Floyd and found Elvis a bore. Had to laugh about the dance moves, it wasn't exactly twerking! Btw: Halloween is fast approaching and have a suggestion to set the vibe with a Creedence Clearwater Revival song. "I put a Spell on You" has been covered by more than a few, and the lyrics aren't complex; but, John Fogarty's vocals and the guitars are fantastic. This is actually a cover of a rhyme and blues number written for the great Big Mama Thornton three years prior by R and B songwriters Leiber and Stoller. Big Mama's version stayed on for seven weeks at number one on the Billboard R&B chart in 1953 and selling almost two million copies before Elvis took it to the moon. Jerry Leiber was not a fan of Elvis' interpretation, reportedly saying "I have no idea what that rabbit business is all about. The song is not about a dog, it's about a man, a freeloading gigolo" Personally, I prefer Thorton's rendition which is sitting on you tube. Its a slightly slower pace but it still swings. One gets the impression Mama's known her share of hound dogs snooping round her door. Mama finally got some the recognition in the Rhthym and Blues Hall of Fame in 1984, but I think we are waiting still for the Rock and Roll Hall to wake up.

There's a remarkable (and controversial) video of Bo Diddley performing on the Ed Sullivan show. It was a year earlier than the appearance by Elvis. It is captivating and truly groundbreaking. (It SHOULD be just as famous). I think you'll love it!
I know you are picking era hits but Elvis had a 23 year career dying at 42 years old in 1977. You need to do this one song that was his most played performance. From his '68 Special ,in his white suit, please see , "If I Can Dream". Thanks.
When the Beatles visited Elvis the big thing they told him was to go back and sing stuff like he did before he went in the Army. They didn’t like the movie style parents music. To me it’s one reason he struggled with success after the British Invasion hit.
Say Hey Syed, Elvis was a very entertaining dancer and was jokingly referred to as Elvis the Pelvis. He toned it down so he could perform on The Ed Sullivan show. Sullivan was extremely powerful in the entertainment business and a spot on his show was almost a guarantee of success.
But, Sullivan was a morally conservative guy. He attempted to prevent many acts from performing any sexually provocative stuff on his show.. The Stones and The Doors were two of those in addition to Elvis.

I'm just now watching this and had to comment on your comment about his dance moves. He is purposely being provocative and NOT dancing the way that got him in trouble and parents worried about their teenage daughters! He was on the "Ed Sullivan Show" and he was required to "tone it down", "tame it", so he is actually being very coy and funny with his moves. Giving the illusion of "naughty" hip gyrations, but actually not doing much at all. Find some videos of him in live concerts and you'll know why they called him "Elvis the Pelvis". Probably still considered tame by today's standards, but definitely swiveling his hips and making the girls go nuts and horrifying the parents! Just wanted you to know that these moves he's making on this video are not his signature moves. Ed Sullivan wouldn't have allowed too much swivel! Love your channel!

This is a tame performance by Elvis. He had been warned not to do it, and he sort of did this instead. It was so controversial that in his next appearance, the camera shot him waist up.

The new winner of the Booker Prize for fiction 22. It is "The 7 Moons of Malli Almedia"and it is is referrencibg Elvis as The King and Freddie Mercury as the Queen of Rock. The plot concerns an important piece of photographic evidence which is sticky taped to the inside of an Elvis album His Hand in Mine (this may be an in joke as the photographer is gay )and also in Queen Hot Space also He considers them to be two of the worst albums ever by these guys. The protagonist says of these vinyl albums in his collection " No one with a good ear for music will ever touch the negatives there " Don't get upset folks as its only a joke

Early on he earned the nickname of "Elvis the pelvis". This performance seemed pretty tame. Whether before (and he then promised to behave?), or after this, Ed Sulivan had him on the show, but instructed his cameramen that he was to be framed above the waist only. Too much gyrating for Ed's taste.
Side note: it amazes me how much actor Michael Madsen (who bears a strong facial resemblance) seems to emulate Elvis. 'Don't think so? Watch RESERVOIR DOGS (1992),
