This is a hidden gem. Thanks for sharing. Both Dio and Blackmore were great together. They only made 3 studio albums together, 2 with Cozy Powell. Whether it was Bain and Carey on Rising or Daisley and Stone on Long Live Rock and Roll, it was first class music. Dio went on to do great things with Sabbath and his solo career, but he was never closer to magic than his years with Rainbow. I met Dio several times back in the day and we literally talked for Hours about the Rainbow years, no matter what you might see in some on line interviews later, but Dio loved and appreciated his time in Rainbow, some of his best and most diverse vocals was in this time period. "Temple and the King, Rainbow Eyes." Show an entirely different aspect to his vocals. "The Shed, Sensitive to Light, Tarot Woman, Run with the Wolf" all exceptional Dio vocals and playing by Blackmore and Powell. Of course, the timeless classics such as "Stargazer, Gates of Babylon (shown on this video), Kill the King, Catch the Rainbow (Especially the Live Version)" Other live album classics: "Sixteenth Century Greensleves, Still I'm Sad, Mistreated (Dio singing this Purple classic was outstanding). The Dio years with Rainbow will always be some of my favorites from both Ronnie and Ritchie. They were a great writing team.

I spoke with Mike Tramp about 8 years ago and he said that Richie on many occasions said he wished that he’d never replaced Ronnie. It was one of his biggest regrets, the rock world knows that Richie is a volatile head strong character. Why wouldn’t he be, the man’s an absolute genius. 🤘

You said everything I have experienced, felt, loved, and felt sorry for, throughout the years. You made me feel great to know others feel that way. I still hold Rainbow of Dio and Blackmore as the band that I love all they did, and yes, the magic and mystery are all above, around, and part of all they have done.

I took guitar lessons in 1970 because of Ritchie Blackmore. I had a Gibson Melody Maker and a 100 watt Custom Amp and needed to learn how to play this thing. Later I had a fuzz box and a Wah Wah pedal and jammed in my drummer friend's basement all through high school. Good times. Still play today at age 68. I bit toned down I might add.

Live vocal (only). This is bonus on the Live in Munich 1977 DVD

    • @GuitarSession
      @GuitarSession  Год назад +8

Yes and no. It depends on "when you are referring that the vocals were lively recorded"! So....they were recorded live in may of 1978 together with the video. This video, however is aired little bit after....in november, 1978. This is not the BONUS of the "Live in Munchen 1977 DVD"...listen to "Long live Rock'N'Roll" in here and you will hear at the end clapping and cheering....while on the DVD is erased and is fading away. Therefore....they are 2 different versions and/or edits. Again....there are 3 versions: the may 1978 version, the october 1978 version, and the november 1978 (the last being the one I posted it in here). I hope this clarifies the dilemma.
I have updated the description...please read it through when you can and if you have any questions ask me.

Blackmore, Dio and Powell! For a while there in the 70s their music was everything to me. Lived, breathed and slept Rainbow. Loved everything they did. They were really different than the other heavy bands. They had this mystical aura about them. When they replaced Dio with Bonnet i died a slow death. And after Cozy left i couldn't stomach them anymore. But the early stuff was magical. Thanks for this upload. Awesome!

I did too. Rainbow was really the only great hard rock band from ‘76-‘78. Well, Judas Priest was great too, but I wasn’t aware of them until Unleashed In The East came out.. All the early ‘70s bands were fading. Rainbow was all I had too. Rising, On Stage and Long Live Rock and Roll were on heavy rotation! (So was early Kiss, but let’s not tell anyone I said that). 😂

This is amazingly good for Rainbow fans when Dio was the lead singer.
I'm 56 and not ashamed to say that Rainbow with Dio was my favourite ever band !
    However . . .
It's sad that Ronnie was treated so poorly by Ritchie, and this video proves it.
    2 key points:
    I. Still referred to as
    Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
    AND
    II. Dio was promised copyright
royalties on, OR, after Rainbow's fourth studio album !
    The rest is history.
I don't know of anyone receiving royalties from Rainbow.
Cozy Powell said he was very well paid by Ritchie.
Bob Daisley said,' Cozy was always buying fast cars including Ferrari's. '

If I would have seen this when I was 8 years old I would have shit my pants. I was a huge Kiss and Alice Cooper fan like alot of kids of the 70's generation
I discovered Ronnie James Dio on the Heaven and Hell album. After seeing Dio with Viv on the Sacred Heart tour(my third concert experience the first being the reformed Deep Purple and the second being Heart) I backtracked and thoroughly immersed myself in that era of Rainbow. My first time I saw Rainbow was the Can't Happen Here video on MTV. What an impact that had on the heavy metal/hard rock music. Cozy Powell Ritchie and Ronnie were all excellent musicians, driven and ambitious, still young enough and writing the rulebook as they went along.

Too bad the personalities clashed. They were so good together. I always think about how more awesome music could've been created if they were together longer.

Why can't you find a single clear video of a Blackmore solo that's not overdubbed or manipulated in some way?

great clip to view! is this the same as the PROMO videos that came out?? Correction. Its not same...but i thought was by the outfits. Very cool vintage DIO era Rainbow! Right before he left the band. THis was one of the first Hard Rock albums i ever heard. My friends older brother had this album, and we listened to it in 1978. I was 14. Still love this album.
