DWYCK was a popular jam and it still is.
I see what ya did there.
@@Jdowling357 came to say the same thing! You beat me to it! Lol
One Day It'll All Make Sense! Common Sense. I Love It.
I love all these rap stories it brings me back to the best Era Ever the 90's
Banga
FINALLY! The track we've all been waiting for! 🔥
I'm lowkey waiting for second childhood and a million one questions and it's all real
and it still is
I saw this in my feed and just said "Oh, it's finally here."
Facts
👍❤
It always amazed me how Premier not being from New York could capture New York so vividly in his beats.
New York embraced Preem and he architected the sound of NyC culture
Great question...still haven't figured it out.
New York originated hip hop but not genius #thesouthgotsomething2say
NYC was HipHop, HipHop was NYC before it took over the world. Now HipHop is world wide, but it wasn't always like that.
You don't have to be from NY to be great at producing music.
This song is nothing but hip hop. Party rhymes, smooth lyrics, great bars, a straight up fire beat. You can dance, nod your head, or spit your own to this song.
@Yehudah LionESS That's a great track, as well. Love the Roots. The true hip hop band, with no disrespect to Stetsasonic.
After all these years, I finally know why it was called DWYCK! 😂 This has plagued me for years! 😂
No kidding, shoutouts to DJ Premier!
I love how preemo is actually telling a story in between the shoutouts 😂
He creates and, then, articulates history, very intellectual!
Rip Guru!!!!! Hip Hop ain't the same without you!!!! Shout out to DJ Premier!!!!! Gangstar shall live forever!!
👍❤
GURU top 5 dead or alive
@@scienz facts
This episode really made preemo so happy thinking of all the dope studio session memories
Base Blasta “it ain’t what you do” WAS MY JAM
Everything about this track is CLASSIC. A couple years ago on Twitter, I told Greg Nice that he prolly has the best opening verse ever on this song. He agreed.
Facts
Deck says hello and that he Bombs Atomically...
It's a great one but the winner is Buggin Out for me
Oh shoot, thanks, you got me about to go blow up Buggin' out now, lol. I've been bangin' "God Lives Through" almost everyday in my car for the last few weeks. Yes, Tribe, no doubt!
Bugging’ Out from who?
For years I swore DWYCK stood for Do What You Can, Kid 😄😄
Same here. I think I saw it in a Source magazine or heard it someplace. Do What You Can Kid
same!!
I remember the same thing, and I thought that’s why the whole word was capitalized.
My all-time favorite Gang Starr track along with Mass Appeal. #RIPGuru #ThanksPremo
Code of the Streets!
One of the hardest beats all time. Just baseline and drums
It’s so cool getting the real stories behind the tracks. It’s tough to hear how many RIPs there are. The people may be in the next world but the artists and the music are eternal.
I love how Preem keeps giving Guru love on every one of these. That’s real love man. You can feel it!
Absolutely love all these stories!
Thank you so much to the God Premier!
Every episode there are too many RIPs 😢
Classic. Lemonade is a popular drink and still is
So simple…..but still epic!!!
That would be good on a t-shirt.
I got more props and stunts than Bruce Willis 🤣
It's mad that this line is so iconic. I mean it's brilliant and stood out instantly when I heard it, but I don't really know what makes it so good
@@ExLionTamer2 It’s because it’s not a very good line, but it’s become like a meme
Premo be having a million shout outs🤣🤣🤣🤣love ya premiere 💪🏽💪🏽👍
The best part!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
For real though
The Summer Of 92 I Heard DWYCK All Over The Place. Crushed Everything Around Us.
Which is crazy because that was a loaded year if think of the albums that came out
FULL CLIP MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE GANG STARR ALBUM!!![999]
The track of all tracks! Defined the summer of '92 for Hip Hop! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾💯💯💯
Dwyck is a modern day classic
This episode is worth saving to favorites and making clips. So many gems.
the way Preemo shows respect and love to everyone is one of the many reasons he is a legend.
True. The video’s length is half due to Preme’s shout outs
Shows love to everyone
I remember when this came out it was everywhere classic joint
🔥DWYCK - A TOP 50 GREATEST HIP HOP SONG OF ALL TIME 🔥 Thank u "Primo & Bald Head Slick"
certain songs mark a time in our lives - DWYCK transports me back to my teenage years.
This is one of the few “posse records” where no one can decide who ripped it the hardest!
I can. Guru.
Smooth B snapped too. Like a rhinoceros/my beat is prosperous/and pure knowledge expands from my esophagus....dope line.
@@tylowe78 that’s what i been saying, they all caught wrek. “I put lead in your ass then drink a cup of tea” Greg Nice “i get more props and stunts than Bruce Willis” Guru “i write in the night to bring truth to the light” Smooth B Every bar in that record is a Hip Hop quoteable!
@@tylowe78 *speed is prosperous
my dialogue is my own/and Smooth B will never bite... You right they all snapped
One of the phattest beats and dopest posse cuts in Hip-Hop history!
Thank y’all for creating this gem!!!
I am 47 years old. The impact Preemo has had in my life is beyond words. I don't know if he would read comments, but this man is the GOAT and is so appreciated. The soundtrack of my life.
Dwyck was pure Hiphop
Having fun
With your friends listening to hard core beats 🙌
“90s was so much fun.” So true
Shout out to my man Drake Goodrich (rest in peace) who brought the DWYCK cassingle to science class in ‘92 and played it the entire class period. I was blown away, but also confused because I had Daily Operation. “WHAT IS THIS???” was my reaction. Two years later when they put it on “Hard To Earn” the song STILL felt new. That’s how long records lasted back then. True definition of a classic.
😂 To this day I still thought it was an acronym!!! Dj Premier, you are the greatest! R. I. P. GURU
MAN you sparkin a world of memories. Just about every bar cuttable🔥my favorite “they lack the new knack that’s comin from way way back” take it personal one of the hardest beats I’ve heard in life! RIP Guru🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Premier too Thoro ‼️
I swear...These "eps" are just too much! We're not worhty! Thank you! Gang Starr has got to be the sure shot! God bless Preem!
This song takes me back to my high school days and playing football. This was our pregame song in the locker room to get us ready to play. I played the entire “Hard to Earn” album to death that year. I still play it to death today. The album is a classic.
Absolute CLASSIC. Another gangstarr CLASSIC is " Take A Rest"!
I can throw DWYCK on now and the crowd goes crazy to this day. Thank you
GURU 4 LIFE LOVE PEACE & BLESSINGS GOD!!![999]
Always thought it was “do what you can kid”. Cool to hear the origin story. All time classic.
this was when hip hop was Fin AMAZING! My kids walk in when I put this tune on blast and start dancing
Thanks for the history Preem!.. Remeber D&D was around the block on 8th ave.. Dont think E Sancho ever got a meals from "Maria's"Moms ran a restaurant there.. Seen all the traffic in them days going up to 37th. Now in Texas, Peace blessings. R.I.P Guru. Also a cat I bumped in to when he had a spot in smith 9th.. Bk,back in the day.. Always made beats, never got to connect.. Blessings!..
I .... without a doubt.....have just found my go - to, favorite channel....
Thank you for sharing your story about DWYCK , it reminds me of deeez nuts and all the verbal things we do to connect with our brothers that end up becoming slang. I realised that slang is the undocumented glue that binds us, and it creates fly shit, that thing that defines us.
Lemonade was a popular drink. And it still is...
"Chumps pull guns when they feel afraid ". I thought title was a reference to the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens. 😂
It might be a good idea to back those floppies up, Preme. Like on external hard drive, in the cloud, etc. It would make things easier to find as well.
I was waiting to hear the story on this classic! Thank You Premier, GURU, Greg Nice, and Smooth B for Blessing us with a piece of History!!
This is Classic Gangstarr💯💯🔥 I had the privilege to watch Gangstarr perform this song in the 90s!! It was a wonderful time to be Alive! Lemonade is a popular drink and it still is~Guru 🙏🏾
Dwyck would have sent that album through the roof. The label knew it.
By far my favorite Premier track.
Dj premier is the greatest producer of all time.
Epic EMCEES at their best, hype ass beat and incredible scratches. What more can you ask for? DWYCK is a phenomenal track. Absolute classic. One of Gangstarr’s best.🔥💾🔥
Mad props to Primo, Nice n Smooth, and RIP to the one and only GURU.🔥
Salute the floppy Y’all.💾
Peace.🔥💾🔥🎤🔥💾🔥🔊🔥
Preem can we get All City "The Actual" or Pitch Black "Its All Real"
I remember watching an episode of The Boondocks when the little girl had a Lemonade stand hustling her Lemonade and Ed Wansler took a cup and said "Lemonade was a popular drink, and it still is" I was thinking Boondocks is the most GangStarr cartoon there is and will ever be. So dope.
Premier's got more beats than barns got hay 🔥🔥🔥
Finally know what DWYCK stands for! Wow, I've been listening to this song for years and never knew what DWYCK meant but just bopped my head to the song anyway! Thanks Premo!
I’m a UK rapper and producer that goes way back and I remember losing my mind when I first heard this track. So fresh and funky no matter when you hear it. The drum break is one of those classics that everyone was using at the time, but this is one of the best renditions. It got in my head so much, that when making beats, I have to try hard not to bite it. I had DWYCK and Faking the Funk on repeat back in the day!
Peace n love to the whole squad and R.I.P to those who passed ❤ 👊🏾👏🏾🙏🏾
I love this. DWYCK is one of my favorite songs; I remember watching this video on Video Music Box channel 31 🙏🏾💯
This track is IT!!!!!!!
Probably one of the most iconic songs in hip hop history. Thank you so much for this history lesson and thank you so much for finally doing everyone's favorite song.
one year later
Peace out Premier take me out wit da fader. - Greg nice
Those episode is epic. Such a Classic Classic joint. I appreciate how Preemo takes us all back with the backstory. From everyone in the studio to the video etc. I miss the 90’s just such a classic time for Hip Hop. I’m watching this video rapping every verse. Salute Gang Starr Guru 4 Eva Nice & Smooth. Yes the episode we’ve been waiting for me 🔥🔥🔥
Love this track, even more mesmerized that I don't know what DWYCK means to this day !!!!!❤️😂✌️
Fully appreciate how long (1st vid in the series almost half hour) & detailed this was...totally enjoyed every gem of insight into the process of both track & video details.
A track that owned summer '94 in every sector of the earth!
Peace out Premier take me out with the fader!
Other than ghostface, no one can intro a dope hip hop song like Greg Nice.
This is an amazing story. Blows my mind . Thank you Primo , you are a legend and always will be. ICONIC!!!
One best beats of all time
Had the Buick 88 playing that song on Replay 15s was bustin 💥💥💥 RIP guru all of gangstarr are classic
Not only do I finally know what D.W.Y.C.K. means (after 30-ish years!) but the Jay-z anecdote at the end put a bow around the WHOLE narrative. Scuse me, I’ve got some lemons to tend to…
This track RAN the summer.
Timeless classic 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of the greatest hip hop songs ever got its name from a joke. Who would have knew? Always thought it was named after the sound of the stratch on a record. That era was so creative. We will never get that level of creativity in today's music and world. I always wish 90s hip hop didn't peak so fast. By the time we got to the end of the 90s, they did everything
This why DJ Premier is up there with the best, I wore out so many cassette rewinding this mutha because that joint right here was UNBELIEVABLE. These kids don't know, even that album Daily Operation which it should of been on was fucking crazy. This joint here, right here, the cuts, everything about this joint was PERFECTION ✌👍✊
Ce qui rend Preemo différent c’est qu’il aime profondément la musique et ceux qui la font ❤
I’m a Georgia dude but I visited Atlantic City in the summer of ‘92 when my sister and I were visiting our grandparents in Philadelphia. I’ve always hated that I didn’t make it there in the timeframe of when the DWYCK video was filmed there.
Great vid and always, Preem. Love how you just slipped in that GEM of how you were the one who sequenced Illmatic(!)
Never ever stop that show!
I'm getting goose bump just listening to the story...these stories are priceless
My favorite beat 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Primoooo , keep doing what you doing!
Mentioned all those people is a great move! Respect!
Dwyck seems to be similar to the Deez Nuiuts gag.
Dj premier is the best dj ever. Goat 🐐 👑. Guru is one of the best mc ever.and nice and smooth.greg nice and smooth b.is one of my favorite rap groups ever.dwyck is a legendary song and video.and yes lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.word up son
😢 Love that Jay showed that love on that remix for Gangstarr. Great fucking video! Keep these stories coming 🙌🏿
Yes, this is remember it well. Was still in high school on the West Coast when this came out. yeah, I remember this song coming out during daily operation. yeah, this definitely was on my request list too.
Just found my original Hard 2 Earn cd from 95!
It’s so scratched up that Dwyck is the only track that still plays😎
Big UP Premier
I have a lot of CDs from my. Childhood and still in perfect condition! Of.course record labels such as relativity, loud, mercury, wild pitch, chrysalis, Elektra, pendulum, and EMI are defunct labels I can get a lot of $ for them but NOT SELLING!!!!
I LOVE THE EXPOSITION OF THIS CONCEPT IN YOUR VIDS. THE ORIGIN TALE, THE HISTORICAL CLASSIC CLIPS FROM BACK THEN, MIXED WITH THE EXHIBITION AND INCORPORATION OF THE TECHNOLOGY USED AT THE TIME. THE FACT THAT YOU WONT DO A VID UNTIL YOU HAVE THE DISC IN YOUR HAND. ITS ALL MASTERFUL. WELL DONE FAM. 🍾🍾🍾🍾
As much as DWYCK is a timeless masterpiece, knowing that Grand Puba Maxwell was in the studio when this song was being recorded conjurs up how much more bananas it would've been if Puba spat some bars on this track, taking this work of perfection to another impossible level...
that would have been crazy!
Puba would've definitely took it to a definitely level 💯
These episodes are so full of Hip-Hop history. I'm sure all of us Hip-Hop heads are in awe hearing the stories. Pounds of respect to DJ Premier and his crew for sharing these videos!!!!! They are so appreciated. Thank you! RIP Guru forever! Gang Starr forever!
First time I saw the DWYCK video I was like OMG this shit is gonna be legendary especially with you on the turnables at the beach and KID Capri and Kool DJ Red Alert in the video.
Another amazing history lesson. Personally, I've always felt that DWYCK fit better on Hard to Earn that it would have on Daily Operation. Also, Smooths verse HAS to go down as one of the greatest!
The first time I heard this song was my freshman year of high school in 1994. I found a Walkman that had a mixtape in it, I gave the Walkman to my buddy, cause I already had the Sony waterproof yellow jawn, but I kept the tape! It was cued up to the beginning of this song, I was floored! I knew the song Mass Appeal, because it was on the radio and YoMTV Raps, so I knew who Gangstarr was, but this song was nuts! I probably listened to it 25 times that day! But that mixtape stayed in my heavy rotation all through high school cause the whole tape was a banger!
This is such a timeless BANGER! Man, I love it. It's such a fun record. And I LOVE the In Living Color performance. I remember my boys and me did that crazy dance about 20yrs ago in the club because we loved that performance / dance :-D I'd love to know where DWYCK suppossed to be on the Daily Operation record. Let us know, Premier! BIG UP to the best who ever did it. Love Gang Starr 2 death!
🔥 fire 🔥Fuego
Soooo Leonardo Dicaprio had a bday party the other day....... His ass was on stage rapping to Dwyck!!!!!!!
Yo I'm from Virginia but I used to be in New York every summer. When this came out it was the only song I would hear all over the city. Primo is my favorite producer of all time, and this might be my favorite joint he ever did!
I love how the scratches are STILL considered the best EVER in Hip Hop!
After the tour quits, I come back with more hits
Preemo I don’t know if you’ll ever see this but even as a 14 year old from Ireland there is no one I would love more to just sit and conversate with than you. You are inspirational beyond your knowledge bro and my favourite producer of all time. This series is one of the dopest things on RUclips. Seeing into the genius mind and memories of one of the greatest producers Ever. I always look forward to the next episode; And this is one of the dopest yet! I always wanted to know what DWYCK meant 😂. I always thought up that it was “Do what you can Kick.” Glad I know now 😂. RIP to Guru, Biz, and everyone else mentioned. All legends in they own right. Hope you see this, peace, living legend ✌️
I sure would like you to give us some history on the song Microphone Pon Cok by The Lady of Rage on the next episode.
