Would’ve liked to hear about the Diamond D vocal scratches on the chorus. Primo’s version is different from the original, for which Roc Raida (RIP) is credited with the cuts. Did Primo do the cuts on his version? I always assumed so. And if I’m being honest I always like his better. Either way it’s an unusual occurrence, like if Jimi Hendrix replayed a solo by Eric Clapton or something.
Yeah man, he's nice. Search on RUclips for a tony touch radio show freestyle with AG, Black Thought and Sean Price. It's pretty good. There are a couple other emcees on it also. But AG's bars are top notch.
That whole Goodfellas album is pretty damn underrated I might add . Showbiz took it to a whole other level with the beats with this one with the dark jazzy samples and ill ambient noise. Straight classic which I still listen to regularly to this day. Premiers remix fits perfectly with the vibe too.

Premier is right. Whenever his drops in the clubs, it always has that essence that just captures you. The recital of the lyrics come back, the call and response. You just feel the vibe and the mastery of how this was laid. It's very similar to Black Star's Respiration whenever that banger drops.
I aint gonna lie I appreciate the fact the premiere is breaking down studio times. The track makers are the true story tellers not the artist in all genres.
10:41 - the preamble to this part explains something that baffled me for years. The off-kilt timing was a result of how to start the song properly because of the 2-inch tape. I always wondered how did such a beginning get conceived. The technology determined the output.💪💪💪
Salute the Floppy Disk. I look forward to So Wassup. Next Level one of my favorite Preemo Beats. When I listen to it I have to put it on repeat a few times. Show & AG are Legends. AG is underrated dope original flow and very witty. Salute to DITC 🔥🔥🔥
Growing up listening to this music, I never thought that years later I would be sitting on my porch 👀 Preem talk about these tracks and how they were created, this shit is absolutely epic.
I recorded the video off Video Music Box one day after school and Ralph McDaniels, the creator and host of that local NYC video show, didn't over-play it. So once I had it on VHS that was my treasure. I was familiar with the song before that but this remix blew my mind! They shot parts of the video at The municipal building across from City Hall. It's where the Manhattan bridge bike path lets out. Me and my friends used to ride our bikes from Fort Greene in Brooklyn to that area almost everyday all summer cuz there was nothing else to do when you were 14 or 15. So I recognized the building immediately. See what just hearing that sound brings back?! It activates some good, strong memories. The power of music. Anyway, Primo's remix it's so timeless and distinguished that when I play it in the car, even my kids stay quiet THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE SONG! Hip Hop, even the good stuff, doesn't sound like this anymore! There's a lot of pausing and grunting between 2 rapid fire bars. Then they say 4 words and growl or grunt again. Repeat 4x then another rapid fire flow for 4 bars, rinse and repeat. And with those tippitt-tippity high hat & overly bassy beats, everything sounds like it belongs in a down south strip club. But this type of expertly crafted, continuously rhythmical rhythm and rhyme flow are rare nowadays, except in the underground scene. This beat and AG's lyrics and flow epitomize the best of what hip hop can be. If this were released now it'd be as big a game changer as Luther's stripped down R&B classic, Never Too Much, which basically closed the door on the whole funk era of the late seventies and opened the 80s up to a new era of R&B dominance in the 80s. Beats and rhymes like this, but updated in some way by a young MC who understands his generation, would bring NYC and the whole Northeast (Jersey, Boston, Philly, Connecticut) back to prominence in the game!
Criminally underrated duo. Showbiz is definitely one of my favorite producers that doesn’t get a lot of credit.. AG was nasty with the punchlines as well. DITC 4EVA. Peace to Preem. Glad they chose you for the remix… original was dope. Goodfellas LP was ILLL bro. That remix is just something special. Peace! 🔥

Man I love the twists in Premo's stories. Because they always take things to the next level. The 8 Mile story just adds more strength to the record. Which is super duper dope.
Every video on Showbiz & AG that I comment on I always make mention of them being underappreciated. Showbiz is one of the creators of the 90's boom bap sound and should be held high on the greatest producers of all time list. To me he's the 2nd best producer in DITC after Buckwild. I wish Show would have done more collabs with big artists. Imagine if Show would've had a joint on Illmatic? AG is criminally underrated and a big underachiever. AG was dope back then but has gotten better over the years but he never reached the heights as his peers. It sucks that they don't get the recognition they deserve as a dope emcee/producer
Too many producers are underrated, like mo bee or nick wiz. It's funny you mentionned Illmatic, I think the same thing, it lacks one track with a DITC producer on it...
So every tuesday I wake up really hyped and excited for what's coming at the end of my working day. Based on Primo's discography I hope this goes on for weeks, months and hopefully years!

Show and AG for me. 2 GREAT tracks that used the Wes sample. To be totally honest, I was broken hearted when I heard this remix with a new sample without "Angel" in it. One of the few Preemo joints I can't get behind due to my undying love for the original "Next Level" single.
