Great Review, Lucky I just found your channel. Keep it up your doin’ things better much better than all of the other reviews. Thank you a breath of fresh air !.
Arrived 4 days ago. Coming from numerous dongles and a Hibby R6 Pro 2 I have been blown away by the sound performance. Literally hearing music like it’s never sounded before. Purchased as a dedicated player for ripped music but the stripped back Tidal integration is a great option. Thanks for the review, found your insight a great help in making my decision to pick this up.
@yongkykurniawan1089 XM5 is l Limited with non android for apps and offline streaming but is the better sounding with more power and dynamics and stage.
@@tonedeafmonk Idk why, I really like the aesthetics of the onix stuff. I like how simple it is to use the xm5. I just wish it had more streaming software such as apple music. I just migrated my playlist to apple music from spotify. I hate to do that again with this. Idk where to download and dread to download 700 tracks. This is nicely priced, not much more expensive than the ibasso dx180 (which I've been eyeing).
Thanks for your review you really make it from your heart it shows, I enjoyed the introduction a lot it was very cool with all those pictures. I totally agree with you this onix line of sound signature is something outstanding ( oomph😛 ) My main stereo at home is Naim and speakers are atc both are made by hand in Britain, those folks do know a lot about audio 🥰💖
No comparison the XM5 sounds like a premium device in its abity to render vocals, bass, and micro details and stage. Power feel all go to ONIX so yes going with the much better.
@@tonedeafmonkthanks sir… can i ask your opinion of xm5 vs cayin n3 ultra. I currently already have the onix alpha after watching your review. Should i get the xm5? Thanks very much !
Appreciate the fine review. Lots of questions. Do you trust this company to stand behind this product, and feel like it will provide years of longevity? Objectively speaking, do you feel that the sound presentation is 200 dollars better than the M5 Ultra? Does this dap have OTA updates like the M5U, and do you see this company releasing future firmware updates? I've stuck with Shanling for several years now. I love the warmish, velvet, and mildly dark signature. You say this dap isn't as warm as the M5U... How much so? If coming from the M6 Ultra and M8, might I find this dap bright, sharp, or edgy in the upper frequencies? Is this dap more revealing of poorer recordings than the M5U? Lastly, any chance you can compare the sound quality against the Fiio M15s? I don't stream, only play local files. I'm considering selling my two daps to acquire this and the M5U. I wish they would have made the screen a little bigger. Any help and comments would be much appreciated 👍
Nice review. Does the Tidal implementation still have the “My Daily Discovery” playlist? I didn’t see it in your demonstration unless I missed it. This player really interests me, despite not having owned the DX180 for very long. Thanks :)
DX180 has special sauce that makes the top end beautiful and overall the DX180 plays very neutral. The XM5 enhances the low end plays more colorful and musical.
Tone! Which in-ear headphones are best suited for eavesdropping on metal up to $300 with this player? How do you like Juziar Butterfly, Dunu DaVinci or something else? Thanks in advance, good luck, hug and squeeze the crab bro!
I'm using cheap Chifi earphones such as the KZ PR2, HZ heart mirror, Moondrop Aria and the Dap is Shanling M3. Would you prefer to upgrade the Dap or earphones?
Great review!! As always, I respect your opinion Tone Deaf!! This sounds right up my alley for pure PORTABLE SQ... In you opinion, will this outperform my Mojo2/Android combo for sound quality??
It will sound different than your MoJo that's for sure not as uncolored, if you are ready to move to a player more on the musical side the XM5 is a great choice.
Hi bro! I don't speak English and I can't listen to your review. Tell us briefly about the general sound of Onix:high, medium and low frequencies. How is this player for metal? And what are its advantages over the Shanlling m5 and m6 ultra? Thanks a lot, good luck bro!
Great review 🎉. Can i use it as a dac/amp for my pc, while watching on pc or laptop? As i was looking for a dap . And now my dap/amp dying so can this work as a dac/amp with a computer? Or ipad/laptop. Like the same use as normal dac/amp plus the dap for music

With the software, can you play podcasts and audible audiobooks? (One reason I like android is to get my audio fix in one place, also 200gb of lossless uncompressed audio)
@@tonedeafmonk ok thanks. I've got an A&K with replaceable DAC modules which sounds Great and is versatile. What I'm really after is a light dap with excellent audio quality, podcast and audible support.
The A&K is my go to, with the ONIX it's more colorful and to be honest for synergy I use both equally depending on what sound signature I am going for. The Kann is the more rounded DAP
Good afternoon. And if you compare onix with astell kern kann ultra? There was an astell kann ultra, now I'm thinking about the onix overture xm5, I'm also considering the hiby r8 ii
I have the Kann Max it plays back with a slightly recessed mids very clean very resolving. The XM5 has better fuller bass and smoother highs with a cleaner midrange. The R8ii is excellent very analog different than the other 2
Thank you, but what about the stage, the production?there was also kann max, and unlike ultra, everything was built a little differently. Ultra is more 3d . If we take the xm5, then who is its competitor? It turns out that the price of astel is also a name and not just a sound.
Hi, I want to use a DAP as a source and connect it to a Desktop DAC + AMP and play local WAV files (For linearing my Headphones by the PEQ). Sound wise, a quality Streamer will give me a better results? Thank you 🙏
No it hangs up occasionally and doesn't run as smooth as the M5ULTRA...yet hopefully a software upgrade comes out soon. But very occasionally and not enough to pay any attention to it.
