    Thank you for the info, my research has just begun. The hardest part of this will probably be giving up the coffee, I hate decaf but I hate having TD even more. TD is really starting to piss me off. At first, I was dealing with it very well but it started to get worse. When I'm in bed the movements that used to only happen in my mouth are now in my back, but that only happens when I'm lying down. I love to play the sax. I started playing the sax about 5 years ago, I took this up because of the mouth movements. Playing the sax requires the development of an embouchure, a specific group of muscles at the front of the mouth. At first, it was hard but I kept practicing, every day for 3 hours, to this day.
    Playing the sax is very helpful, I have become quite good, in fact, I'm the best there is. The only potential problem is, I am now starting to feel an involuntary shift in the way I have to mouth the reed. You hit on something when you mentioned caffeine, I drink a lot of coffee during the day, and I'm having one right now, anyway usually at practice time I drink a red bull, which is probably not a good idea either. I'm going to try some of your suggestions, they make a lot of sense. If this is successful I will send you a personal invitation to my first concert, if you're into jazz, Once again, thanks for the input, my friend.

      Those energy drinks have some very oddball compounds mixed in with that big blast of caffeine and those chemicals alone could be irritating some aspect of your brain chemistry in unpredictable ways. If you consider the alcohol called jagermeister, my sister says it causes fights from the chemicals it's made out of. A lot of those things turn up in energy drinks.

    I’ve had this condition twice now due to medications. One medication that caused it was Abilify. I’m terrified of taking medications because of this condition as the second time I actually slurred my speech and my facial muscles cramped up. It’s frightening and unfortunately rare so not too many people know about it. Hospital staff said I was having a stroke. I wasn’t. I was perfectly fine aside from having TD mixed with anaphylaxis.

    Hello, I have ocd, depression, avoidant restrive food intake disorder, aspd, bpd,
    might be bipolar. I have parkisonsm and take lyrica for it. Antidepressants and
    antipsychotics have ruined my life, mainly my cognition,
    anxiety,
    and ability to do tasks, as if it wasnt bad enough. I've been on them for 3 years
    now. I'm 20 years old and I'm currently living with my mom, she and my dad really
    worship this psychiatrist so they do whatever he wants. I cannot tell them i want to
    stop taking the pills besides lyrica and start going to an ADHD specialist who will
    actually give me meds for my adhd. Ik its gonna give me moodswings and make
    me loose so much weight but I'd rather take that than have all that i mentioned and
    more. Is there anything i can do to stabilise my bpd and possible bipolar? Like some
    sort of supplement? I've heard meditation helps regulate mood but im too
    lazy to do it currently, ive been trying on and off for years but i haven't been
    consistent after over i think 3 weeks.
    Oh forgot to mention i have some sort of psychosis but i dont remember how
    confirmed is that by my psychiatrist

    Hi there. I don't have schizophrenia, but I'm autistic/ADHD and was wrongly placed on tons of anti psychotics in middle school which made my life hell and left me with medication induced tardive dyskinesia and needing two years of physical therapy to recover from. Unfortunately I just tried adderall and while it was a HUGE help for my ADHD, it exacerbated my TD so much I had to stop taking it after just a few days. I noticed it was worse when the stimulant started wearing off and my dopamine was depleted.
    Do you have a source for TD being caused by a lack of dopamine? That info could really help me when researching supplements if so.
    I really need ADHD medication, but the TD is making finding one I can tolerate a nightmare ;w;
    I'd sue for medical malpractice if I had the money and spoons.
    I will say that I experience a mild but noticeable improvement taking Ginkgo biloba. Keep in mind it has a fairly short half life of 5-6 hours and I have no idea how it could affect antipsychotic meds. Also, there was a recent study showing L-theanine, a naturally occurring amino acid in green tea might be able to help TD.

    • @MatthewPierce
      @MatthewPierce  Год назад +2

      Hey,
      TD is caused by excessive dopamine (or rather too many dopamine receptors and high sensitivity) I believe.
      Antipsychotic induced TD decreases a lot by 3 years of not taking an antipsychotic but I don't believe it decreases more after 3 years.
      I'd try some manganese than maybe some branched chain amino acids. Yi Gan San is more expensive but extremely effective (86% improvement likely in TD (not the 56% I quote above (authors wrote two different numbers, one of which has to be wrong)).
      Note fish oil is 60% effective for ADHD (they used krill oil in the study, which is a higher quality fish oil, but regular fish oil should be fine (NOTE: capsules are better than a bottle because the fish oil stays fresh better) and SAFFRON is 70% effective (35$ a month (cheaper than Ritalin which is also 70% effective for ADHD)
      20 to 30 mg/day of saffron capsules was used in the study
      I'd try fish oil than saffron for ADHD although Ritalin is a nootropic (a substance that enhances brain performance, so you may want to stay on it).
      Kids who ate healthy also didn't seem to get ADHD.
      (my blog post on ADHD is here: schizoprevent.blogspot.com/2022/10/adhd.html)
      Loose theory: taking Ritalin long term may gradually decrease TD with time (as high dopamine will cause your body to produce less dopamine receptors and your sensitivity to dopamine will go down).
      There is a statute of limitations on harm which likely applies here so I doubt you could sue.
      Wishing you the best of luck
      M.P.

      Unknown: Beta-blockers apparently help akathisia (their might be some natural substance that does this effect) --- Manganese might help more than just TD (likely parkinsonism, less likely aka) as the manganese study is very old and diagnoses weren't as differentiated back then (so this might be worth trying).

      thank you I was researching too. It looks like b1 is another vitamin that gets depleted from medication and various foods causing TD & akathisia. I see some are having results with detoxing the body and restoring vitamins and minerals not a lot of success in the groups. I’ve been on a very restricted diet to keep glutamate levels down and trying mega b1 dose and healing my gut getting my methylation system working properly. I’m no longer on any of the medication my doctor took me off everything abruptly that’s what gave me both td & akathisia. During all my research I find that symptoms of schizophrenia manifest in the gut microbiota and our genetics methylation system due to toxicity of bio toxins heavy metals, mycotoxin’s and excess histamine buildup. Also if the gut is impaired with leaky gut, sibo, sifo, parasites and candida that’s what can cause symptoms. Antipsychotic meds are big antihistamine drugs. You may like Dr Natasha Campbell McBride research. You are very intelligent. I really appreciate you taking the time to look it up. I think the next thing I’m going to study is Krebs cycle. I’m currently going through abruptly stopping psych meds and benzos withdrawals. I’ll be 2 years out on my birthday September 11th in The support groups I see most people hill at 2 1/2 to 3 years off if they take care of their body and heal their gut. Benzodiazepines and psych drugs destroy your gut and make it hard on your body like schizophrenia exactly. I’m going to do the gas introduction diet once I get done with the prolong fast to re-introduce foods and to build the lining of my stomach back. (THC is very bad for young people, but I'm not sure if CBD is okay or not, I believe keto is safe enough (long term keto likely lowers lifespan slightly, but would be worth doing if it prevents the seizures, keto is used on epileptic children, so I presume it would be safe for her) .. My blood work as of November, showed I’m low in dopamine so I want to try the suggestions in this video and I plan to supplement dopamine.

    • @MatthewPierce
      @MatthewPierce  Год назад +2

      The one intervention i list works by lowering dopamine in the pre synaptic cleft, so it might be tied to TD.
      I'd try a few things and see what helps!!
      The body does adapt to antipsychotics and L-dopa by making more or less dopamine receptors (with many higher sensitivity receptors produced with prolonged antipsychotic use).
      Branched chain amino acids and manganese would be fairly simple to try. Vit E is supposed to be generally good for you i believe, could try that eventually too. Yi gan san might be too expensive, but it is effective on schiz and TD.

Most TD cases are caused by antipsychotics for either schizophrenia or bipolar, although other medications can cause it too. @brendystewart I had the same thought at first then saw the channel name. My TD was also caused by (11) medications over a 6 year time-frame from multiple doctors (one mainly to start). The SSRI meds such as Hadol screwed me the most and Matthew's coverage of Tetrabenazine was certainly working for me during the short time I was prescribed it. In the end the everybody is an individual body. So, every body will react differently to these treatments and those prescribed by doctors in the medical 'practice'. Once, again, great coverage on the topic for natural treatments Matthew, by no means, am I trying to hijack the comments, just letting a helping hand with this comment as it appears to line up with my initial thought and their cause of TD.

      @@dinawestermeyer1019the difficulty here is these people were damaged by somebody. He doesn't mention the antipsychotics causing the tardive dyskinesia very much and he just keeps saying you can share it with this and that but he doesn't mention that if you quit the antipsychotic you'll get worse and if you keep going it'll get. I can't imagine what most of these people did to deserve the kind of punishment that these motion disorders are.
