You are a savior! I spent over an hour trying to put the filter pieces together until I found your video. The hardest part: putting the seal around the other 2 pieces. Although it does not say anything in the manual, I unscrewed the part where you showed it was very dirty. I bought mine in November 2020 so it is still clean. I would have never done it if I had not seen your video!. Awesome!

Ok now I see how you do a deep clean.. I took the portafilter apart as well & was shocked to see the black build up FYI if you do this only tighten that screw VERY gently!!! If your not it will crack plastic & screw won't hold it all together & ITS NOT EASY TO FIND REPLACEMENT! Well I haven't been able to find one yet.. good luck to all cleaning!

In mine the custom coffee button (pressing it for longer) makes about 4 shots of espresso (runs for about 40-42secs) and then stops. One is about 10-11 secs. Two is about 20-21 secs. So I use the custom coffee button and milk reservoir clean button to descale/clean the machine. Once the buttons are not flashing it is good to go. Flashing means it is heating up yet.

I just bought one of these and was wondering how hard it was to deep clean. Glad I found your video or I'd have never known to disassemble the grounds filter cup. Looks like its a bit of a hassle to run the vinegar but if it only has to be done a few times a year thats not bad!

I make espressos/lattes/macchiatos for my family nearly every day, and after making all the cups our family wants and dumping the puck, I run a single espresso shot cycle with a cup underneath. Then I run the froth clean cycle once into the same cup.
This process is simple for daily cleaning as it doesn’t require disassembly and the heat dissipates any remaining moisture in the portafilter after giving it a couple quick shakes.
Once a week, the milk container gets a thorough cleaning, otherwise, it just goes back in the fridge.
I find that with the frequency of how often we use our machine, we only fully disassemble the portafilter once a month for a thorough cleaning. Submersion in a bowl of vinegar or coffee cleaning solution once every three months should be sufficient if incremental daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning is done. After submerging in a vinegar or coffee cleaning solution, submerse detachable parts in >208°water for two minutes and rinsing in zero PPM water should return the parts back to a restaurant level of sanitation.
      - the portafilter, OCD tool, the puck screen, and espresso cup all stay on top of the machine until it’s next use - leaving these on top preheats the things that come into contact with your espresso. The heat ensures the parts are dry, minimizing bacterial growth and also minimizing clumping when adding dry grounds to promote more even distribution/less channeling. It also lessens espresso heat loss when the shot is drawn and poured.
To keep the water container clean, using only water that’s been run trough a ZeroWater filter ensures you have zero PPM, virtually eliminating the need for reservoir clean up.
Keeping milk about 1/4 below the max fill line and carefully transporting it to and from the fridge should minimize milk from going in between the lid and the recessed top of the container. The metal slide can be wiped with a paper towel after each use before placing beck in the fridge to minimize the nozzle from dripping.
Getting a knock box or bucket will also minimize cleanup as opposed to carrying the portafilter across the kitchen to the trash can. One can also use a 51mm dosing cup or funnel to minimize spillage when adding and leveling grounds.
In all, the Café Barista is a simple machine to operate and maintain. Inexpensive espresso tools will not only make clean up easier, it should also make a noticeably better espresso. ☕️

2:00 helps to check that the dimples are in the 3 o’clock & 9 o’clock position to less the likelihood the basket tips out when knocking the grounds out.
If using a puck screen, the grounds should come out as a single solid puck.
With this extraction method, you also have the option of tipping the basket out upside down on a barista mat using one of the recessed circular areas and tapping the back side with a small rubber mallet.. should drop out as a solid, mess-free puck that’s easier to dispose of.
If you have a knock box or grounds bucket nearby, you can also tap the center of the puck with the tip of a butter knife to break the puck into two, allowing the solid pieces to tip out.
Note, the basket will still be quite warm. If you have heat sensitive hands, you can optionally wait a few minutes to cool first, or do what I do.. use my fingernail to align the dimples to the release position and simply tip over onto a paper towel or silicone mat.

I just place mine under running water once a week and submerged in a vinegar or coffee cleaning solution 1-3 months as needed. Otherwise it stays in our fridge between uses.
We use our machine daily so there isn’t much time for milk to stagnate as it’s constantly being used and minimizing the frequency of how often it needs to be dissembled and cleaned. Your results may vary. The lid can also be submerged in

I was having the smell problem too. You can take the lid apart (3 screws, and then carefully squeeze/pry the inner from the outer. It comes apart more easily from one side. You can also slip a blunt knife into the gap and pry carefully)
There is a silicone rubber block that is the source of the gunk and bacteria build up. After removing the latte/cappuccino shaft, you can carefully push out the block from the box that holds it in place. I tried boiling it in soapy water the microwave. But I think the real fix was to carefully scrub with a paste made from baking soda and water, using a toothbrush. There are some interior grooves that trap dirt so look carefully)
This is the first time I've done this and I've had the machine about 4 months. I may combine this ritual with the 21 day de-liming.

It ticks me off that the instructions say "Press the clean button for 5 seconds to activate the clean mode...The pump will turn on and off multiple times for about 12 minutes." They're FOS. I have to manually run the vinegar/water through the espresso and milk reservoir so many times just to get through the vinegar/water mixture.
