Despite the A320 being one of the most common (and kind of boring?!) aircraft in today’s aviation world, loved by low cost and flag carriers alike, and commonly packed with 180-186 seats; not the case on Qatar Airways!
Despite the A320 being QR’s smallest plane, I can assure you it was a great experience!

Even in an unspectacular aircraft Qatar is setting the standards. Inflight entertainment. Big business seats. For eco really good looking food. Clean toilets. Compered to Easy Jet or some other airlines like that a whole new world. 👍
Completely true.
Now I don’t know if having 132 seats on this plane with such high standards earns them actually money or not, but that’s not my business.
I wish this was more the standard for others too. It’s quite annoying how they kind of destroyed my idea of the A320 as now I feel annoyed on all others I fly.
@@TheLayoverAviation you have to consider the distances Qatar A320 flies as compared to the short hops in Europe by all European airlines, hence the spartan cabin looks and service in Europe. This is five hrs after all. You will not see this kind of A320 Zagreb Munich or Zagreb Paris for example. It will be overrated and economically not bankable. European A321LRs however, flying across the Atlantic - for example for Tap Air Portugal - or Air Lingus for Ireland - have similar cabin features and service. Having said that, at the same time I do not claim they are better than QA320, just that similar services exist for that type of destinations.
Nothing wrong with Easyjet, in fact, they are much more comfortable than Lufthansa and SAS :(

Another amazing video!!!! I've never flew with Qatar Airways, however I would like to in the future. I love how Emirates A380 flew by!!! What an amazing scene!!
Most of the flights between Europe - Middle East and vice versa follow the exact same route over Iran, Turkey and Romania, so if you pay attention there are many A380’s to see.
Some days ago I saw the EK Expo 2020 plane, the blue one, passing by so incredibly big next to us but didn’t manage to film 🥺

I was just reading an article from CNBC that Emirates lost $1.1 billion dollars over last year. Also, I read that Emirates is continuing service to Russia despite the on-going war. They have no choice to continue their service there, until the government sanctions them and does not allow them to fly to Russia, I'm sure Emirates will agree not to fly to Russia.
I find a $1.1 billion kind of ok if you consider that they exclusively operate International flights and wide bodies. Their business model depended 100% on international traffic, so they were mega affected during Covid.
It seems that profit is expected for next year and the company will grow and improve more then ever. Let’s see!!
Regarding Russia, the UAE is neutral on the situation and plenty of Russians have Dubai as a second home, so I don’t think flights will be cancelled unless the US will say they won’t allow foreign operators to operate American flights IF they operate to Russia.

Maybe the image quality was better because it was a 100% daytime flight? Or because the windows were clean?

Qatar Airways is the best and the most expensive airline to. That too much for a big family like us. Either way, another excellent video.
Hey Sergio. It’s certainly one of the best but not the most expensive! It’s actually one of the cheapest to fly long haul. I guess it depends when and where, but it almost always comes out as one of the most affordable options for me.

How is turkish not in the same league as Qatar? The A321/A321neo aircraft which serve Zagreb have a way more modern and better cabin than this. Also serving a large hot meal on that 2 hour flight, larger than this one.

I’ll tell you why! So I fly with them around 20-30 times a year and every now and then to Zagreb I keep getting B737’s and A320’s without any IFE. The beverage choice is half the size and I’ve been served the same meal for over 10 years at least!
Yes they do have some nicer planes here and there, quite inconsistent, but also that in all the past 20 experiences but 1 I was not spoken rude to.
My son never gets toys and the most goes on!
So yes, Turkish is absolutely not in my premium airline category (unless you compare it to short haul euro economy, of course..)

The fleet inconsistency is also an issue, but will be over soon, as these older planes without IFE will be replaced soon by A321neo 😊

Happy to see you enjoyed some Indian food in-flight. The dish you had is called Aloo Gobi. Aloo in Hindi is potatoes and gobi is cauliflower. It’s a very famous North Indian dish from Punjab. Other options looked delicious too. This has to be one of the best A320s with regards to cabin layout, In-flight cuisine and IFE.
I’m nuts about Indian food Neville! Specially in Kolkata I’ve had some of the most mouthwatering meals I can remember..
It is indeed the best A320 I’ve encountered so far. Not A321 though, I recently flew the Vistara A321 NEO and was also flabbergasted! Coming soon!™️

Personally found the business class to be quite disappointing compared to its other offerings. The footwell is so narrow you can’t really sleep comfortably. Okay for daytime flights though, I suppose. Nice review 👍🏻

Not that I mind vegan meals, I don’t, but out of all meal choices it’s usually the most bland one.
At least the Indian vegetarian has some kick to it!
Another great video as usual love it -though not a fan of a narrow body aircraft beyond 3hrs though the food was great don't know how Ali Baker approves plastic glasses for drinks
I am not a fan of the narrow body, like you, but when under these circumstances it’s fine.
And I’m sure Al Baker would have glassware in Economy Class but imagine the massive cost of it. All the breakage, people taking it home as a souvenir, cleaning costs and most important of all: The dozens of KG’s added to the aircraft thus raising fuel burn!

Hola Alex. Fully enjoyed this video and your comments! Right up my ally as usual!! Can't think of any other narrow bodied airline with such service, I agree! Flew Qatar a couple of times from AKL to AMS on the 777-200LR in business class and was only disappointed by the 2-2-2 configuration and the horrible unhuman arriving times! Tired planes and seating but things must definitely have changed post covid! Dining on demand GREAT, but arriving back in AKL at 3.30am was challenging!! Waiting for domestic transfer with domestic terminal closed till 6 am, hmmm. Reuze bedankt Alex!!

That 2-2-2 configuration is now gone from the B77L, all replaced with Qsuites if I’m correct.
The inhuman arrival times are something that just won’t change in the Middle East, I know what you mean😅.
The airlines benefit from a 24/7 airport operation at the cost of our poor eyes.

It was quite empty indeed, but I always do my very best to find empty flights, like by flying during weekday’s in the low season. And it works!
In the summer this wouldn’t be possible to Zagreb.

When pilot uses the entire runway , as he did today, is it because he is not so confident of take off on a shorter one?
2900m is not short, specially not for a quite empty A320. It’s all based purely on precautions, a “just in case” thing.
Perhaps the Qatar Airways Standard Operating Procedures don’t allow for runway intersection take offs. There could be many reasons.
Some airlines love intersection take offs, like KLM. It could potentially save taxi time and so fuel.
About safety demonstration did the cabin crew do the safety demo or it just appear automatically in the front screen of your seat???????

You can fly with them if you only transit through Doha.
But yeah, I hope all these restrictions stop soon. Most other Gulf countries already made some historical moves so I guess Qatar will follow, who knows before the World Cup.
I fully agree with you on the IFE department! This A320 is just out of this world. Now I don’t know if having 132 seats on the A320 vs 186 like Wizz makes any money, but that’s none of my problem😎.

It’s a wonderful plane at QR while other airlines mostly have low cost configurations.
Zagreb is the capital of Croatia, a country in South Eastern Europe, bordering Italy.
My wife is from there so we travel there quite often.

How does the training of a pilot who already flies but wants to switch for example from the A320 to the 787 work? If a Lufthansa pilot wants to switch to 787 how does the company handle the procedures, given that Lufthansa has not yet received a 787? Do they fly on other airlines they partner with, such as United's 787s?

And unfortunately I can’t give you one answer as there are so many..
It depends on the airline’s operational requirement and much more.
Let’s say you worked for X airline and flew A320’s. And let’s say you join Singapore Airlines now. It would make sense for them to train you on the A380’s and A350’s and not the B777’s or B787’s, for example.
I don’t think that as a pilot you’ll have the choice at many airlines.
If an airline like Lufthansa starts operating B787’s I think that a select number of instructor pilots will train at Boeing to become instructors on the B787 and then will go on to train Lufthansa pilots on the type.
It would make sense that most of these would be existing Boeing pilots, such as B747 and B777 ones as many systems will be common on the B787.
No, they don’t fly on partner airlines, I’m pretty sure of that. Unions wouldn’t allow that. Flying the B787 in United is strictly for the seniors if I’m correct.
I really don’t know what to say! It has so many possible answers!
@@TheLayoverAviation So it is very likely that Lufthansa's Boeing pilots will be trained directly by Boeing on the 787s, and then train future pilots themselves.
and what was the sound at the very end, just after parking and before the Cpt start his final announcement ??
I guess that would be the hydraulics (ptu) shutting down, if that’s the sound I think you’re mentioning..

Awesome report! Qatar are way ahead of most airlines as far as "economy" goes. The food, the booze, the extras ... 🤗 Only wish more so-called 5* airlines offered that kind of service. I think I'm going to have to move to Dubai, you are so close to everything/everywhere ... being at the butt-end of the world, it's over a 4 hour flight from Melbourne to Perth, and that's just a domestic flight. You have the best of everything 🥂

You’re actually right: Here in Dubai and surrounding countries it’s still mostly about service quality and not only in aviation. Now, it of course has other downturns, like the current temperature.. But more the reason to continue travelling!

So far I’ve had 0 bad, or even “regular” flights with QR. They are all pretty good to excellent. And good value for money.
It’s weird to see the narrow body but I’m glad they invested in making the aircraft more consistent to it’s wide body brothers and sisters.

I wish I could be more open with what I do for a living, but so far I can’t. I work for and represent a travel/hospitality giant. Besides that what makes me travel a lot is family, we’re scattered everywhere. RUclips also seems to be becoming a big side job.
I just keep myself busy the whole time and make sure that whatever I do involves flying.
I knew since a kid I wanted to be in planes all the time, so it’s nice that commitment has made this a dream come true!

It’s a long time, can’t remember! But I think I had plenty of seats for myself so I had no space trouble. Otherwise it gets tight on the A320!
But not all of their a320‘s have ife systems….
No, some of them have the streaming ones.

Although Qatar's A320's are better than others, I still don't like flying on it and I'd much rather fly on wide body, I'm very lucky I barely fly on it and I mostly fly on their 777-300ER's
If I whant to fly in Lufthansa a320 I book economy class because the business class look the same like the economy class

If comparing to this A320, maybe yes.. But I still don’t place TK at the same quality level as the major Middle East airlines. And I fly a lot on TK.

The hydraulic PTU! It makes this barking noise on all the A320 family aircraft in engine start and cut off.

Not at all, it was in fact the cheapest choice between Zagreb and Abu Dhabu (around $250 one way) and I get to collect the miles!
Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, KLM, and Air France (and other airlines) business is not even as good as Qatar in economy
On short haul you’re right!
On long haul I’ll have to say the others don’t have a bad product at all. I actually like Air France!
