We had an absolute blast on this challenging, technical river! Anyone else ever fished the Big Thompson? How'd you do?

Fished the Big T for nearly 19 years from 2000 on. Incredible fishery before the last big flood. Fished it a few times afterward, was finally starting to rebound after a couple of years. Still consider it my home water and would love to get and give it a go again sometime.

It’s beautiful water! Wish I coulda have fished it before that flood. Sounds like it was world class back then.

Great vid Parker.🐟🐟 Yeah, BT can have some serious and quick flash floods. Our team has embed and shared your video to Kookloo. Denver's only video sharing discovery platform. Keep creating content. Regards, Team Kookloo

For those who might wonder, it's only Big in relation to the Little Thompson, well, except when flash flooding. And if it's anything like the beautiful Cache la Poudre a bit to the north, below Drake its fish population is significantly reduced due to a massive amount of sediment from the Cameron Peak Fire two years ago, some of which was that horrible mud you encountered. In answer to your question, I haven't fished the main trunk except down on the flats, with modest success. I love to fish the North Fork within Comanche Wilderness but it too has been affected by the fire sediment all the way up to the border of Rocky Mountain National Park. It's extremely technical due to lots of rocks, brush and overhanging trees, a super fun challenge that offers an opportunity to "fish the cycle". Wet and dry ant patterns of realistic size do very well there IME.

Hey Parker, subscribed ! Loved your vid on the madison . The upper stretch between the lakes is so golden ! Also fished the Big T whilst in the US . Lovely place , esters. I have only fished below the dam wall of the dam in Esters on the big T and further down more in the canyon . Plenty of small browns . Which section of the Big T were you fishing ? It looked really good but didn’t look familiar .. many thanks

Jeremy! Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed both the videos! I loved the between the lakes section on the Mad, might just be the prettiest, most productive stretch of river I’ve ever fished. We were fishing in the Big T canyon on stretches of private water along the road to Fort Collins.

They’re fun to have access to on really high pressure rivers just for the solitude. I don’t necessarily find the fishing any better tho. Just depends.
