    Calling for new patrons!
With patrons support I will be able to offer far more information than I am currently able to.
With nearly 25 years of knowledge gained in the jewellery trade working with some of the best diamond mounters in the UK I can train practitioners of jewellery making, up to and far beyond the skill level usually found in High Street jewellers workshops.
Become a classic patron and you will not only be able to view part 2 of full instructional guides but also be thanked personally on the next youtube upload! You will also have access to all future uploads 2 weeks before they go live on youtube.
Official patrons have all the benefits of a classic patron but also gain access to regular exclusive content. Behind the scenes, personal jewellery projects Im working on, I share ideas for future videos, photos and stories from throughout my career as a professional jeweller.
Also Official patrons are welcome to suggest ideas for future videos and contact me anytime if they need advice for their own jewellery making endeavors.
Classic patronage is just £5 a month and to become an Official patron costs only £10 a month making Diamond Mounter patronage by far the best value way to gain access to online jewellery making courses.
As the number of full instructional guides continues to grow the value will be even more considerable.

Thank you for this. I am just starting out and this is exactly the sort of thing I need. You're 100% correct... us newbies find videos like this invaluable. Many thanks.

I’m so glad I just found your channel, simply because you sound exactly like my high school English teacher and with all the bajillion different professionals from all over the world on RUclips you’re the first familiar sounding voice which is so comforting after a full day of trying to figure out the names of the files

I work at one of those big tool shops in Hatton Garden that you don’t like very much. Everyone who works behind the counter works actually very hard. It is sometimes exhausting, specially when you’ve been on your feet all day, running up and down, trying to be helpful and do your best, but then have to listen to all the moaning people who are always “in a rush” and have been waiting for half an hour to be served, which normally means 5 minutes.
If you have any suggestions about how to solve the queuing problem please let us know! Thank you.
Also, if you don’t need any advice - because you already know it all - and all you need is a charcoal block, why don’t you place an order online and go straight to collections? That system has been in place for ages. You don’t have to take any tickets or wait in a queue for very long.
Anyway, you’re absolutely right, HS Walsh is great.
I watch all your videos and I love them all - only this one not so much ;)
    Thank you

personally, making the file handles are the best part of a new file. it just allows that small amount of changes from a store bought one. just a tip for fitting the handles, after you burn it in, a small amount of 1 hour epoxy in the hole before you push the file in for the last time, then when you fix on the ferrule (brass piece that supports the wood at the main joint) use a small pin hammer just around the edge and it should not come lose again

Burning on handles is actually forbidden in Germany because they tend to come loose and this can result in injuries.

I have a suggestion for you. When I was at John Cass they had us making double clips. I don't remember how the backs went (they sort of popped open or shut, could be used as a broach, a pendant or as hair clips.)

    Thanks for the video.
I have spent the day snapping small drill bits in 18ct white gold... any tips to avoid this?

Drill in small passes with plenty of lubricant

when it comes to files I would say splurge a bit. when you start out you will be doing a lot of filing... A LOT OF IT! cheap hardware store files might be advertised as cut 2 but their teeth aren't precise so they leave little gouges that only become apparent when you hit it with a buffstick so that leads to more buffsticking.. get at least an expensive one, maybe not a habilis from the get-go, but something from higher up on the shelf.
