I was worried about my frozen blueberries getting freezer burned so I decided to dehydrate them. I know you had mentioned fermenting frozen items are sometimes iffy, but I have used them mixed with other things. Right now I have fresh lemons, dried blueberries and dried hibiscus in a gallon jug...yes, another fizzy drink that tastes amazing!
I'm dehydrating blood orange slices which is taking FOREVER. The last time I did oranges they weren't all the way dry apparently and got soft in the vacuum sealed jar. Also doing some rhubarb, but the majority of that I froze just because I have the room at the moment in the freezer.
And YES - it's fun to experiment with different things! Great video again Heidi! God bless!!

My kitchen/pantry is unrecognisable, compared to before learning from Heidi about 18 months ago.... it's full of glass kilner jars of dehydrated veggies... beans... home made no-sugar chocolate , fermented carrots and onionns...powdered kale and spinach (great in casseroles)...... freshly milled wheat ! That was a real game changer.... along with the brake bleeder pump(s) 2 is one, one is none....

Also, right now in the dehydrator is apple and peach butters....I recently went thru to cull older canned jars and thought, why not try to dehydrate it? I figured as cooked down as they were, low sugar, that they might make for good fruit roll ups. We'll see!

Last summer I had a lot of ping tung eggplant it’s a long lavender variety that’s become our favorite. I had dehydrated a few quarts plain then decided to try eggplant jerky. I sliced it.. long slices were better than circles the circles got too hard. The marinate was coconut aminos, maple syrup and cracked black pepper. Made sure crispy dry and vacuum sealed in wide mouth jars because I could arrange them better. In a wide mouth. It’s become a favorite snack. This year I’m planning on trying other marinates possibly an Italian herb or spicy southwest.

Recently I had a 'windfall' 😉 of little green peaches. I'm talking many gallons!! I pickled some sweet, some savory, and have several quarts of them. I then cut them off the pits, stewed and spiced--savory and sweet-- used my boat motor aka hand blender and dehydrated them like fruit leather. Duh, that's what it was...lol. At any rate, it turned out well, tedious work, but, the end product was very good and nutritious. My DIL and my grandkids loved it. Wastage turned into something tasty. I have nearly two gallons of the cooked pulp left, Think I'll make some pumpkin spice leather--to enjoy next fall. I sometimes dry dibs and dabs of leftovers and keep them for my chickens.

Thank you Heidi. Several things I am interested in. I dehydrated yellow squash. Delicious when taken fresh out of the dehydrator. Nice and crisp. Similar to kettle chips in sweetness, however it did not store well past 1-2 days.
I know that you have mentioned in a past video that you have dehydrated cheese. I plan on experimenting with that, but I plan to use cut to fit the trays, linen kitchen towels to absorb some of the fat. I have successfully dehydrated riced cauliflower for a friend. Only drawback. Is the tiny dehydrated particles seem to powder and then snow all over the work surface. Lots of product for small amount of results. I prepared tht friend a case of various dehydrated vegetables as we are entering into hurricane season.
And thank you again for imparting so much information and research on various items and ways to preserve. ML to you and Patrick for all that you do for this community. May God continue to bless, provide and protect you. P.S. I went pork free about 9-10 years ago. I appreciate your mentioning where you found beef bacon, I will see if I can order some. For those who really want or have a freeze drier, that would be a good plan. I know freeze dryers are expensive and it turned out to be my big "splurge" item 2 years ago. And I'm not looking back. I tend to cook things in big batches which yield lots of "leftovers". I freeze dry my leftovers and store have made up meals to go by storing in mylar bags. At Christmas I gifted all my kids freeze dried meals as part of their emergency prep and bug out supplies I also gifted them. Freeze died is lighter, takes up less storage space, and is less fragile than canned items. Bonus: I locally source my meats and grow my own veggies so they know for sure what they have is healthier and more wholesome than anything they can make themselves. Also, I have canned things I made like "beef stew, chili and spaghetti, freeze dried and rehydrate, hands down, taste more like fresh from the pot, and has a better consistency than reheated canned items.

@@brucelarson4283 Yep, I know several who love theirs and I have nothing against that, I am just not interested after doing thorough research, trying many freeze dried foods and finding few I actually like, and hearing horror stories of many who had theirs break down in short order. I know that is not the case for all though. I can afford one and was even offered a free one but turned it down. I have a long list of reasons why it is personally not for me and I love finding ways I can dehydrate many things without the need for one. It has become a challenge that I gladly accept, especially for the sake of those who cannot afford such a lavish expense yet feel pressured into getting one.

I've dehydrated my firecider fixings and citrus peels, both of which I've powdered and used as flavorings in beef jerky marinade and they are fantastic! I also dehydrate tomatoes, zucchini and mashed winter squash, all of which I powder and use to thicken soups instead of using flour. It's fun to try things! The only thing that I need to retry sometime is mushrooms. Initially, they turned out great but turned out to be not completely dry after storage.
