That song at the end was straight up channeling Crash Bandicoot energy. Also, I know absolutely nothing about cymbals, only that I adore this absolute gem of a human being and I wish I had his level of enthusiasm for literally anything.
For a dark washy but very interesting sound, check out the Dark Matter crash-rides, sizes 20" and 22", from Dream Cymbals, a Canadian cymbal company with various cymbal lines manufactured in China. Not able to buy one at new price, i got one very cheap with a short edge crack, and did a scallop repair. A fun sound, i may try to use it at my next two festival gigs.
Speaking as an American here, there's something the rest of the English speaking world does right that we do wrong and it's the pronunciation of "Z." There are too many letters that end an EE sound already. I'm on team Zed.
There is an octagonal cymbal called the Rocktagon from Sabian. They also made cymbals the shape of a lampshade. If you watch rdavidr's channel, you can find loads of videos on weird cymbals.
Just felt I needed to let you know that you essentially single-handedly motivated me to purchases an incomplete, heavily used drum set from a thrift store with the intentions of filling in the missing parts and then actually learning to play them. So far I just need a high-hat stand/cymbals and a kick drum pedal, but it's just been an absolute blast going to a local drum store and picking out the cheapest snare drum, and rummaging through their selection of broken cymbals, and even with just a snare, toms, and a cracked crash, I have been having so much fun with this stupid little project. In conclusion, thank you for putting out these video, but also god damn it, I didn't need another financially draining hobby.
we all start somewhere, I started with the kick, two toms, and the floor tom and I had a snare but didn't have any hardware to put it on. I had a broken cracked crash cymbal and nothing else. It was still fun as hell though!
Not at all! The Dark Ride yeah sounds like a really dark and "washy" cymbal but the Ravioli and the Egg have a much more imperfect sound yeah but that makes their sound much more complex. Maybe that's why they sound so interesting in jazz, where they have more breathing room to shine

This made me want to hear you playing along to a bunch of Donkey Kong songs.
Imagine showing up to the gig with an egg and a ravioli as cymbals and actually sounding good.

That square is such a weird idea, and the fact that it actually sounds halfway decent is wild to me, but I guess it makes a little bit of sense.
I can’t explain why, but it sounds exactly like what you’d expect it to sound like
It's got crash, it's got wave to it, it pings when you want it to, this one's REALLY good

I wonder if it's possible to press a bell in a non-circular shape without destroying the cymbal.

Zildjian Pitch Black sounds like they were trying to make a cymbal that has LESS expression than an electronic drum kit.
