LOL... Most of them are white; yes. But I don't believe that rhythm or blues are racial. They can, however, be cultural; and they CAN be taught. I'm actually gonna do another voice lesson vlog, soon, on how the types of music that we grow up with in our environment shape the foundation of our musicianship. I, personally, know a few black people who have no sense of rhythm (lol) and a couple of blond-haired white people who can sing like Aretha and James Brown.
Finally I found the fountain of RnB 4:05 "focus on the techniques when you're practicing, but when you're singing focus on communication" those are golden words 😍😍😍
On behalf of my Teen Voice class, I thank you. I'm proud of them. They work REALLY hard, and they actually sound much better now than they did when this video was shot (I'm sure some of them are gonna be mad at me for posting these "work in progress" scenes). However, I think it's good for us - artists - to share these experiences.
This video is extremely important and should be watched by all aspiring pop singers. "No one pays for pretty sounds." This is exactly the advice that I want! It is not always the beautiful tone that people want to hear - if we only stick to pretty sounds, we are limiting ourselves. Solid video Eric! :)
No doubt! lol. But that's why I love Stephen. He can push past the fear and just go for it anyway. This singing thing takes BRAVERY, y'know! Seriously. I feel that I can work with ANY voice... but I can't work with a coward. You gotta be willing to put yourself out there. I've got a courageous class.
Honestly, neither would I... lol. But, when it came time to do the R&B/Hip-Hop Vocals workshop, they requested this song. The new movie, "Pitch Perfect", has restored interest in the 90's Blackstreet hit.
Please can you do a video tutorial on how to sing Frank Ocean's Thinkin Bout U or/and Usher's 'Climax'? I really want to master the choruses in both songs but they're difficult, it'd be great if you could do this! :)
He is a perfect teacher.I tried all his vocal exercises da first day I watched them n I already feel the difference in my voice..I will keep practising ..cuz this guybis amaizing .n I believe he can help me out !!! Thank you soo much for helping me out..
I tell people this all of the time. If I couch someone or produce something for someone with there vocals, whether it a rapper or singer, with feeling is usually the very first thing I have to say. I hate it when people just sing the note. Singing with feeling can take someone who doesn't sound good and make them sound like a million dollars or at least a grand, lol
I loved this video! watching this on my lunch break at work for some tips. I love singing so much and I love that you're sharing your skills with the world. got my support!!
I definitely plan on doing a Rock vid. There are many diff types of rock, though (pop, screamo, metal, etc); so I'll have to figure out how to structure it.
Ase .. Your Magic is real... Bringing that Soul Vibration out. Movement & sound goes hand and hand, one cannot exist without the other. In order to transmut the energy more effectively movement is required. Authenticity is key
Shout out to the young guy making a "real" attempt to catch what you were teaching. This is why you are that which you are. You have passion. Now "thats" something I can hear in your voice. Keep flowin' Eric. Shout out to MPAC as well.
By the way, I joined you about a year and a half ago, and I must congratulate you for your own personal voice improvement--you're sounding better than ever!! I've recommended your channel and website lessons to many people and will continue to do so. Singing is such a joy, and you're helping A LOT of people increase their personal joy with their own voice and their confidence to share their joy with others. I wish you continued success with your voice-training and music performance careers.
Thanks so much! I've been wanting to learn to sing better so I can add harmonies to the band I'm in. Our lead guitar led me to your site and I'm impressed.
I teach a class at Breasia Studios in Laurel, MD for adult (17+) professional (or aspiring professional) vocalists. I teach Teen & Adult classes at MPAC in Severna Park, MD. And, of course, I do random workshops all over the U.S. throughout the year (including DC and VA).
Your students sound good, they have nice vocals! Moreover, these videos improved my vocals, I can't wait to see what taking your full class can do! Since I have been a singer all of my life, singing in church, school, college, and with a couple of bands as a freelancer, I did not think my vocals could get any better until I started practicing with your videos. I thank GOD for leading me to you!
Great lesson! The best thing was it not only taught me something I didn't know, but something I didn't even know I needed to know. Been following your diaphragm training and vocal warm up videos, and even after a few days I'm seeing noticeable improvement in my 360 breaths, and my range and tone. But this was something totally new, that was extremely valulable. More than technique, you taught me about the feeling and emotion that goes into singing. Sing with your speaking voice. Awesome! Thank you!
thank you for teaching these because even if i could pay for your classes there was noway since i'm on left side of the world but now i can learn from you from home
very humbling work that you do with these kids ...nice mate...about to do the same with my daughter who loves singing....thanks for your vids.. all they way from Australia
Glad I stole some time to listen to this (shhh, I'm at work), it's reminding me of less performance and PLENTY more emotion...hey, the performance is INSIDE the emotion ~ thanks, E :)
Finally, this is what I'm looking for, a smple but pro voice lsson. I checked some other videos, but nothing fits the range and genre of my voice. Pop/Rnb is my thing. I'm actually a singer and vocalist in our church for years, thank God, I found this video. I don't have formal education in music but the talent is in me, so I just want to have a voice lesson exactly like this. Sorry, man, you got my trust, I knw that I'll learn a lot from you, I'm a very good singer but still hungry for best.
Dude, great tips. You've brought to light things that I have sensed were somehow missing in my singing but not realized. Thanks for passing on these tips
wow thank you so much for this. I can see and hear your passion and it is so inspiring. definantly going to check out more of your videos. thank you so much for this, and for keeping music real
Keep up your mad vocal lessons! i wouldn't be the singer i am today without you man. And don't worry, i'm always advising people to your videos haha :)
Props on getting the teens to loosen up. Its the number one challenge I face when I teach rap workshops and classes. I wonder if they were really able to internalize the emotion of no diggity. Anyway great work, great lesson. :)
Thanks for everything Eric! I’ve been looking for tutorials on specifically developing the light whisper(but not necessarily quiet) that female R&B singers have mastered.
Eric Just want to say I love watching your videos very informative and you are a great teacher. Keep on doing what you are doing and I will always check in to watch and learn. Thanks
Yes, especially if they love singing, and are really good at it, they should want to share it with the world. Honestly, I enjoyed listening to what they shared.
This was a GREAT explanation and demonstration. It's amazing that many of the people who are on American Idol or X Factor or The Voice don't seem to carry through on it--paybe part of it is nerves. I'm a sucker for a voice with range and power, but the meaning behind the song is so important. Some singers have voices that naturally convey feeling--the lucky ones!
Where have you learned all this? You seem as if you have not only learned all this art but mastered it in a way in which everything is easier to learn... Great job with your work and doing what you love.
I always wanted to learn How to sing , everytime I search for How to sing, the first thing that always pop up are vocal coaches who teach people How to sing opera, Thank God I found what im looking for singing in the way that your not singing opera but in rnb style
I have a vocal training program at home that's supposed to be the best in the world. it's Per Bristow's Sing with Freedom program. but it's not helping me at all. I wish you were my teacher. somehow you keep me drawn to your videos. you are a blessing for many aspiring singers. you the best!
Excuse me Sir Eric.. can you do a video on how to stay consistent. cause sometimes your voice is great on somedays and not on some.. so how do you stay consistent and how to find your authentic voice. Thank you!
Great lesson! In the past, I've given the same advice with dramatic results. This video should be relabled as "Singing With Emotional Expression" as it applies to all genres of music and styles of singing. Feeling it and expressing it makes a world of difference, indeed!
how hard is I to transition from opera style singing to R&B and all the other music genres and I was wondering how bad is smoke for your vocal health and how hard is it to keep a good vocal health and being able to improve my vocals I stopped smoking but my job is welding for 10 hours a day in a smoking shop grinder dust the worst environment ever can you give me some good news or have I just answer my self ? I to am also interested in rock and country singing techniques don't laugh HELPME PZ
Thanks man. 2 questions. First, why aren't you a multimillionaire RnB star? You sound better than everyone out there and you're an actual musician, you can play an instrument. I'm a guitarist (been playing for 15 years) so I can relate a bit. Secondly, I tend to sing in a higher register especially when covering an RnB songs cause I usually sound flat when I sing the lower notes. Plus I tend to only sound decent when I sing in a breathy manner cause if I don't my naturally nasal voice comes out.
Thanks man. This was something I needed a lesson about. On those "shaudy get down" in mix-head you sound like usher...! btw. Thanks for the vocal warm ups. Killing performances with them.
Eric, I would love for you to discuss a singer's voice, like in full details, LOL! Your knowledge is vast & I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts and comments on that topic. I don't care how long the video may be!! Please do that vblog very soon!!
I have a teacher but I don't think i'm actually progressing cause its like 20 minute lessons;is there any chance of you considering moving to London England :D
great vids man...I'm taking notes....hey you kind of favor and even kind of sound like Jamal Lyon ( Jussie Smollet ) from the show Empire lol...great voice tol
Eric, I watch your videos all the time but I never make a comment. I've always wanted to learn how to singg and I think that this video explains a very CRUCIAL aspect of performance. Thank you for making these videos, you inspire us all :)
I really WANT to... Honestly, N.O. culture has kinda been the problem. In New Orleans, we tend to encourage the idea that talent is 100% God-given and natural - "You either have it or you don't." There aren't as many people who see the value in training, especially in contrast to places like NYC and Cali in which training is the norm. But, if I can get a good 15-20 singers to register down there, I would love to do one... maybe at one of the hotels off of Canal.
I'm an aspiring Christian artist and I need help with tension in my throat and jaws because after I sing for a short while it feels very closed and tight.
LOL... Most of them are white; yes. But I don't believe that rhythm or blues are racial. They can, however, be cultural; and they CAN be taught. I'm actually gonna do another voice lesson vlog, soon, on how the types of music that we grow up with in our environment shape the foundation of our musicianship. Finally I found the fountain of RnB 4:05 "focus on the techniques when you're practicing, but when you're singing focus on communication" those are golden words 😍😍😍
This dude has the best voice around. So much range and versatility. And he is a great teacher. I would love to do one on one lessons with him.
Me too!!
Felt this in my heart. I am such a perfectionist that I forget to just let go; it's a fear of being judged. Thanks for this wonderful reminder.
That kid learned hella life lessons that day
This video is extremely important and should be watched by all aspiring pop singers. "No one pays for pretty sounds." This is exactly the advice that I want! He is SO gorgeous
Carré Albers leave our fine men alone
lol.
+sweetpyramidgirl girl hush.
+sweetpyramidgirl LMAO!!!
When you said "Both of them are fake" I just died laughing I don't even know why
Honestly, neither would I... lol. But, when it came time to do the R&B/Hip-Hop Vocals workshop, they requested this song. The new movie, "Pitch Perfect", has restored interest in the 90's Blackstreet hit.
Hahaha "like, I could kick you in the face", said in the most loving way possible! :)
forreal, lik how u gonna tell little girls u could kick them in the face
Sing With Your Thoughts and Not With Your Voice...Nyc...Love the No Diggity song!
For me eric is the best free vocal Coach on the internet. Going straight to the point and give so much better explanation then the other coaches 🙏💯
One young dude in front of all those chicks, man I bet he was nervous as hell.
Please can you do a video tutorial on how to sing Frank Ocean's Thinkin Bout U or/and Usher's 'Climax'? I really want to master the choruses in both songs but they're difficult, it'd be great if you could do this! :)

Wow...
Ojalá en España existiesen clases de canto como las tuyas.
This guy is a great teacher
The way you explained this made so much sense to me. I have been working at this for 2 years! Thank you so much

I would have NEVER paired these kids with No Diggity but OK lmao
This was a great video!
You need to come over UK and teach some lessons. Very good and well explained love watching you're videos.
I have a QUESTION Why when I tilt my head back ( I know it's wrong ) does everything just relax with almost NO effort ?
Thank you! I agree, and maybe I will adjust that title ;)

When are you coming to the Chicago Land Area?
You are a very good teacher and singer. I just suscribed!
Thanks man. This was something I needed a lesson about. On those "shaudy get down" in mix-head you sound like usher...! btw. Thanks for the vocal warm ups. Killing performances with them.
Great Advice, Great video!

Eric, I would love for you to discuss a singer's voice, like in full details, LOL! Your knowledge is vast & I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts and comments on that topic. I don't care how long the video may be!! Please do that vblog very soon!!

Great technics, thank you
When do we use runs and riffs in singing sir?
Awsome video ... You point the right problems
Thanks for all ideas! It really helped me a lot! :)

That kid in the hoodie got numbers after that courage!
Thank you for your video.. love to see more but, I love in Korea... lol
Love the intro Eric! Thanks for the interview a while ago Awesound TV - Breathing Technique with Eric Arceneaux (Part 11/11)
thanks coach for free lessons! ♥
Does it really help to cover one of your ears while singing?
Oh yeah that film looks really good actually, I forgot No Diggity was featured in it.
First time on your channel, great, best wishes from Germany, Robert
I'm an aspiring Christian artist and I need help with tension in my throat and jaws because after I sing for a short while it feels very closed and tight.
Very handsome man... hard to focus on what he's saying 😳
