Rough few days for Gavin. Couple of times I thought it was the end, glad you got him home safe. Loving the series man, these tough days add a ton of narrative to the story. I enjoy them as much as the breezy days! There is a fix on the workshop for the farming bug if you're interested - B42 Farming Fix is the name of the mod.
Oh you're absolutely right, as much of a struggle as it is I'm really enjoying it, and the character it's building in the process is great fun. I'm trying to go mod free for as long as I can just so I know what issues need addressing if I report any and that they're 100% not mod conflicts but a great suggestion either way, thanks!
Genuinely feel like they did a whoopsie for this particular patch of the build. Zeds are too numerous, loot is sparse, calories are actually harder to come by than they should be. Points of interest having a chance of being looted without there being any zombies actually CARRYING said loot. I literally fought 50 zombies in one lone house that had a basement with two gun lockers. Did the lockers contain anything? Of course not. The house was looted. I did get a granola bar for my troubles. The zombies outside the house should be carrying the crap they looted inside.. or at least SOME of the loot should spawn on them. I have my third CDDA character. She is quite capable by now... but her weight is - as was the same problem with my second character - dropping. With dropping weight, her stamina also drops. I started with Low Metabolism because that was actually a BENEFICIAL "negative" trait now. Yet it essentially only gave me ten kg more weight than starter since actually maintaining weight is still difficult. I honestly don't want to abuse mechanics of churning butter to forcefeed yourself to high weight. It's honestly ridiculous. The ranged weapon loot leaves a lot to be desired too. Maybe it's just CDDA that is this difficult, but it's difficult for all the wrong reasons.
I knew there were gonna be some kinks that needed ironing out but I don't think they've done too bad with it, think most of the fine tuning and getting things sorted couldn't come sooner but there's definitely been worse launches to a game (or build in this case). Think the default settings are one that needs tweaking desperately, zed separation needs to play into the looted buildings too like you said, either give zeds loot on them or have it have way less zeds once looted, have a lot of ideas for the looting system because I do really like it Aye nice man fair play! I think the best way to do it right now is just to eat butter or smash a stupid amount of rabbits, as annoying as it is abusing mechanics, it's the best way to do it right now I think purely because of buggy calories and things. It's not just CDDA either although it's not giving you the best start either :D
@@Vulrhund Certainly! They have done a banger job and it can only get better. At worst I think the modders will have so much more to work with on this build. I simply am a bit miffed that the game has ransacked buildings in houses that are actually points of interest. In CDDA the houses are usually already low on loot yield, so to have every other house pre-looted and picked clean is a bit of a downer. With that said there's also a good reason to use Foraging indoors. You can find stuff on the floor that doesn't otherwise show up. In particular around garbage piles. So do try that sometime. It has yielded me some stuff, but obviously not amazing stuff. Just enough to at least not leave empty handed.
03:40 I'm surprised you were able to make it over that fence as tired as you were and as much muscle strain as you had. Well done. I died once because of that. Tried to jump a fence when strained and fell back into the horde that was right behind me.
I’ve made the mistake a few times my heart was going like no other, got incredibly lucky and couldn’t be more thankful! Less risks like that I reckon :D
7:50 omelettes are your friend. Add whatever foraged/farmed food you can find, or just leave it plain, and condiments for happiness. I can't think of a better way to use two(?) eggs, and since this was posted four days ago, I'm guessing by now you have, or are about to have, more eggs than you can handle.
I currently have way more eggs than I know what to do with you’re absolutely right, I’m yet to make an omelette though I didn’t know these were things in game! I’ll get on it
Those big logs along the roadside are great for branches and stuff loot. Make some sweet weapons, but then again yea, I did start in a real city that had a library, storage sheds and such for all the magazines so unlocked tons of recipes. 17:49, you got so dang lucky. I thought that was the end when you decided it was a good idea to go into that dead end. Rooms that are black filled don't have windows.
I thought it was just logs in them, I'll have a check! The big issue I have with making weapons at the minute is recipes, they're stunting me at every turn at the minute it's starting to get a liiiiittle frustrating, just means I need to go exploring more. Honestly man I could not have been luckier, thought I was a goner too!
@@Vulrhund Yea, logs, branches, big branches, saplings, all random extra things. Even some pillbugs appeared too in those logs. Maybe head to rosewood for a hot minute and visit the school and book shop. Be careful though, looks like the main street is very busy there now.
Looted buildings are a little bit harsh. I left Ekron, and I pushed to Rosewood only to find the fire station, and the police station absolutely trashed. The only thing I found was a nightstick
Oh you’re joking that’s such a killer! I wrote in another comment they should add buildings as points of interest and give them a separate option for looting chance. So general buildings you can set to 50% (standard) and then POI’s at 25% maybe, they’re much hotter spots so more zeds make it less enticing, would be an idea anyway
I’ve noticed being even a little overweight makes me fatigue much faster. Also stomping zeds to finish them instead of finishing with weapons helps me keep fatigue low.
I’ve been trying to keep myself below the threshold but even being under seems to exhaust me so quickly it’s strange. Stomping zeds out is the way, need to start managing that a lot better
I think the idea of looted houses is to encourage players to use the crafting system to make weapons. Seems like an ok idea, but you have to find the recipe books. That is what I have a hard time with, no recipe book = no crafted weapons.
I’m definitely on board with it, I really like it for that reason but I think they need to list certain buildings as POI’s for exactly that reason OR make buildings that have been looted have noticeably less zeds surrounding, nobody’s gonna clear the place without taking out the dead right? At least my thoughts on it anyway, do love it as a feature overall though, makes for some fun but frustrating encounters
Yeah guns unlimited is wild. You'd have to allot weeks or months depending on your pacing to get to. I think I got up to 3-ish weeks before I got inside. Thought the horde thinned out but nope...there's just as many lurking inside the building 💀 even after taking advantage of the soda bug, you could only do so much within the day before the tired moodle comes out..😅
It’s an absolutely wild place, 3 weeks probably sounds about right going hand to hand :D I’m going for the draw everyone out and see how I go idea, if I can get in and sneak around I’ll be okay but until then it’s pick them off and hope for the best!
I got so lucky to find a sledge, my cunning plan came undone, as soon as I breached the outer wall it was like popping a zombie zit, they all burst out. Thought most of them are "safe" around the other side of the building. I just absolutely filled the main road thick with zoms using my m9. Still plenty there. I have now just taken a car up to the upper top corner beeping the horn then took a trip on foot through the top forest near that county maintenance building and across the field back to my truck further down the road. Hopefully that will work. I really want a vehicle with a sirens but haven't found one. Funniest thing was that one of the zoms actually had a key for the place on them too, so got that. Might be of use inside? I certainly don't need it to get in. :D
They will also hatch if you don't cook them and leave them in the fridge, amazingly. Re: Guns Unlimited: I wonder what the firecracker could do for you.
I’ve tried both but neither are playing ball, maybe I haven’t left them long enough but I can’t quite sus it out! Good shout on the firecrackers too, I’ll give them a go in the next (Sundays) episode
Now .... realistically ... 2 months into the end of the world ... the looting would be extreme .... I mean .. I suppose you could read books and gain the knowledge to .... make weapons? Chicks come from eggs ...so .. that's a thing. Maybe leave some of the eggs to hatch? I can't remember if you have a whetstone for sharpening your bladed weapons.
IF there were more weapons in zeds or more stashes you could stumble across I’d completely agree, but with the loot just being picked up and disappearing from the world it’s a bit of a pain if that makes sense? I’m on board with the mechanic, I think it’s a great idea but the default definitely needs to be lower. Crafting weapons is the way to go though for sure! I’m trying to hatch them but I’ve no idea how, had a full coop at one point :D
If everything is looted after a couple of months with the new build, maybe you should change the settings to keep the run interesting? I also understand if you would like to fight it out to evaluate the new stuff, but I think it will be easier to grasp the other new stuff while looting is as it used to be. Anyway, great series!
I’m definitely gonna lower it, I think I’ve already hit the threshold is the only trouble so basically everything from day 56 (I think) has a 50/50 chance of being looted and it’s a killer. I’d like to have a look at the new things but I’m nowhere near ready
After watching the whole episode. Maybe you should take it easy (again) I also feel like that gunstore place is way way to dangerous. Are you willing to risk your life for meaningless loot? I also think it will be hard to lure away all the zombies and loot something. You will be very heavy, You might struggle to get out. I also feel like that gun store place is really infested, Its like super many zombies. It might be one of the most populated/infested places on the map. Maybe just put the gunstore place in the freezer. Explore some new areas. Maybe build, get your base sorted. Just take it easy for some while and maybe loot smaller places or different locations. There is also this small unnamed village a bit more east, Where the militairy surplus store, and some other random buildings. Maybe go there?? Idk, there are some good places to loot there. Also a small doctors office there... I really hope you wont die soon. This series is so much fun, I really like your character. I hope some good fortune will come soon XD you really need some good weapons and equipment :) and yeah maybe turn down the looted areas a bit down next playtrough (or turn it off) You can change it pretty well in sandbox settings. Maybe 5% or 10% at like 180 days (6 months). I just turned it off. But I also get that you like it XD. Its hard even with it off haha
I think it's worth it, I've been sat in a house for like a month and a half waiting out the busted leg I need to go explore :D You are right though, need to tone back the risk at least a little bit and start taking my time. I've got 2 more good days there at least before I try to something else, the little town just outside of here past the gun store is on my radar and I'll absolutely go check it out but there's meant to be a ton of zeds there too so could get a little dicey I don't think he's going down any time soon, we still got some work to do that I don't plan on giving up on so plenty of life left in him we hope! I'm definitely gonna tone down the looted places though, think 20-30% at maybe 6 months is a good mark, will force me to move more and not give brutal odds of 2/1 for every building on the map, really is a killer at default!
It’s a hell of a place but I’ve got a little plan, fingers crossed it works out. Think if I can draw enough out from inside to muscle through the front door and get some guns it’ll be grand, work that aiming skill up and just truly go to town
On lines 174, 188, and 202 of \media\lua\server\Farming\SPlantGlobalObject.lua there is a logic test that is probably meant to prevent the subsequent code in the isSowMonth, isBestMonth, and isRiskMonth from executing on non-crop objects. " if not self or self.typeOfSeed then return end " The self.typeOfSeed check returns true, but isn't being inverted by the not, thus the test on line 739 returns true and sets the "cursed" status when the plant is sown. To fix this, either add a "not" before self.typeOfSeed or wrap "self or self.typeOfSeed" in parentheses. There are more instances of this mistake in the file for things like isColdHardy and isBadMonthHardy. There are also further issues in the farming system due to incomplete implementation (for example, plants that are expected to grow in winter having the Cold Hardy property commented out), so this ONLY addresses the "always cursed" problem.
They still have the cursed flag set even when you disable seasons, it's a bug. The cursed flag is intentionally set with seasons, you have to both compost and fertilise the crops now as well as keep up the water. It's a ton more work for basically nothing. I gave up on farming, I wasn't even getting any xp from it when I did get crops. The only way it rose was with the tv shows and vhs.
If theres now a mechanic in the game😢 that makes buildings periodically come up already looted then I would imagine everyone is going to have either turn it off or increase loot rarity.
It's a sandbox setting so it can be turned off which is good but it does cause some frustrations, got stung by the fire station and the gun store in the same couple days and demoralising is an understatement. Great feature though I quite like it, just needs some fine tuning
Sounds like you need to go primitive, man. Use pipes and stone axes until you're ready to start building tools & weapons. The game is definitely too looted and durable weapons are too scarce. Assume that most family homes will have one of the following: baseball bat, hockey stick, crowbar, axe, & metal shovel. And most will also have at least two of the following: kitchen knife, paring knife, & some sort of fighting knife. Obviously good spears and almost all long blades would be rare, as would real explosives. We should be picking weapons off of a larger % of zombies or looting weapons from most homes. Instead, we're basically being forced to go primitive in the first year of the game. (After a year, I'd think that weapons would start to dry up, becoming lost, too worn, or rusted to continue to use. A knife that's been sitting on the street for months is unlikely to be usable. Having rusty dull knives spawn all of the place would be cool as you'd need to try to fix them before use.)
I fully agree with everything you said, late game it’d be so good if you were finding like busted shovel heads in zeds and things like that to fully simulate the broken world. If they want to simulate survivors with looted buildings there definitely needs to be some compensation in return otherwise you’re right, basically fighting through the Stone Age from day one and it’s hard work with no magazines!
@@Vulrhundnice! You have three other gun store options. There is the Jamieson Army surplus store, the gun store at the southwestern corner of Irvington(both of which are near open fields so you can use a campfire), or the shooting range in the northwestern corner of Irvington. The shooting range is easy to find and you won’t need a sledgehammer(you will for the Irvington gun store). Follow the road from your gas station towards the farm store and keep following the road until it ends. Take a left and follow the black top road until you cross train tracks. Turn right after the train tracks then right again. On that road, take the second right, which is a light colored road. You will pass a baseball field on your left and the road ends at the gun club range. Good luck!
I want to see if it is or isn't. I set both ammo and ranged weapons to the max of 4.0 spawn and have not gotten a single gun case in a single house. I recall in b41 on stock settings just about every single house had a gun case in it, this, nope. All my guns came from the muldraugh police station, random cop zoms, a single military zom event and all my ammo is from the "zombies drop ammo" mod which I turned down as it gives a lot of ammo. Figuring out the balance.
Alright, I got in, it's worth it if you use high loot settings and get lucky it's not looted. I think it's more the lucky it's not looted. Makes up for finding nothing in the houses. Plus using rains gun mod. Probably took about two weeks in game going there almost every day to clear/retreat. Had some days my guy was so wrecked he just couldn't go back at all so tended the pigs along the way. Got them calm now from constant pats and just being there and about to have some little baby piggies. There were a heap of rats there too, they are now just coming right up to me because they're all calm. I like that mechanic where the animals get used to you. The m9 and the hammers put in the work clearing the gun store, well part of it, so many zoms. The hammer is best short blunt as it has a very high crit chance. Salvaged and repaired them a bunch of times too. Loot; Got a couple of m60's, only one box mag though and very little 762 ammo. Bunch of upgrades, a few m16's, PLENTY of 556 ammo and about 20 stanag mags, so I've got a loaded up m16a2 ready to go. Also got and upgraded a m590. This was all just from the backroom/two lower tents. Honestly the amount of actual guns would fill just one small locker, it's all mostly ammo. About to go into the main showroom and use the shotgun, quite a few zoms still scattered all in that large area. I want to find fishing gear. My plan? I'm getting ready for THAT annotated map event I found. :) I've found only two annotated maps and one is that one. :)
I love the idea, I think it simulated the survivors out there really well and with the gunshots and random screams it’s a nice extra touch but man is it rough. I’m definitely going to tone it down for the next run, so far making all my very needed trips basically pointless

Guns Unlimited took 5 cars for me to just clean out most of the zeds. It's a massive number and a never ending stream out of the bldg.
It’s a hell of a place but I’ve got a little plan, fingers crossed it works out. Think if I can draw enough out from inside to muscle through the front door and get some guns it’ll be grand, work that aiming skill up and just truly go to town
Use dev mode to turn crop seasons off, they messed up one line of code and all crops die when seasons are on
I had no idea that was a thing I definitely need to change it, thanks!
can you explain further? I am having the same issue with my crops just dying . I had sweet potatoes and they died, same with lemongrass.
On lines 174, 188, and 202 of \media\lua\server\Farming\SPlantGlobalObject.lua there is a logic test that is probably meant to prevent the subsequent code in the isSowMonth, isBestMonth, and isRiskMonth from executing on non-crop objects.
" if not self or self.typeOfSeed then return end "
The self.typeOfSeed check returns true, but isn't being inverted by the not, thus the test on line 739 returns true and sets the "cursed" status when the plant is sown.
With everything being looted means you can’t make fruit salad 😂
Hahaha will actually have to forage for the berries just for a fruit cocktail :D
:D
Smiley man made the top’
how did u fix the sped up "walk to" ?
I just keep tapping F3 every time I click, it’s the only workaround I’ve found so far
you are early, Its not 3pm XD
Hahaha look leave my lateness alone :D
I’m here! 5th maybe??
4th man to the party!
Good luck!
guns unlimited is not worth it
Just the thought of it has me so interested though, can’t loot the whole town without seeing the main event!
Yeah.. looted poi’s… ruin it.. I’d understand if they’re npcs..ai player survivors big survivor caches etc.. but yeah solo meio.. no go..
I love the idea, I think it simulated the survivors out there really well and with the gunshots and random screams it’s a nice extra touch but man is it rough. I’m definitely going to tone it down for the next run, so far making all my very needed trips basically pointless
First?
Beaten by a smiley face!
