    I have a very strange situation because one of my legs (including my foot) growing physically bigger than the other one. So, for some odd reason, the only training shoe that works with my personal situation is the Nike metcon line. I used to use Nanos all the time, but after a freak accident I had with the Nano 7s caused a powerlifting injury, I've been using the Nike Metcon line ever since. I can honestly say I've personally never had any major problems out of them out of all the years I've been using them. Also, apparently, there's a moisture contact issue with some of the Nano models due to how the outsole was engineered and constructed. Meaning that they can actually slip easier than other shoes in my experience and some other people's experience if they come into contact with a small amount of moisture. Now before people get out their pitchforks and such, i tested this therory out on multiple surfaces with multiple models of the Nanos. I did this because of 2 reasons: 1. I had a suspicion that something about the shoes caused me to fall during a heavy squat and caused my injury (note: it wasn't the first time I did that weight with that squat and they were very new shoes because I only had them for a couple weeks before that and the outsoles were still in excellent condition). It turns out I was right. And 2. It's also because I train at light heavyweight to heavyweight (I was about 202 at the time of the accident and then I gained 50 lbs because I wasn't able to do anything for a while). So, with that said, I wanted to be sure it wasn't just a bad outsole, and it turns out it wasn't. However, I'll say that the Nano 9s and 10s were decent, but I don’t wear them most of the time because my foot just feels right training in the Metcons for most things. I do agree that for jumps and running, they do fall short in those areas, but as far as my experience goes, they're the only shoe line that I'm able to do certain movements in. Particularly lunges because my body hates lunges and pull-ups, but the Metcons made lunges and their variations tolerable, so they get a 10/10 from me, but I do understand that everyone's body is different and needs different shoes so get what works for you. Ok rant over.

      I did notice that the Metcons. At least in my case. Felt better when doing heavy compound exercises. I got more stability and felt confident on my feet. But based on my style of training. I found that the X3s are more versatile for minor cardio sessions. I also like that they are pretty wearable and forgiving for everyday use.

I really do like the look from the metcons a lot more but since I have a wider front foot some people at my box already suggested Reebok instead of Nike, but seeing this clip makes me feel more comfortable actually making the choice / buying them tomorrow. I'll worry less about the looks then since I'm gonna take your advise to heart and just wearing them for CrossFit and lifting workouts. Sincerely thanks

      Well I went to the first shop, couldn't find the Nanos there, so fitted the metcon 8 but really didn't like them. Went to another shop to fit the Nanos which btw felt really good, but the color he got was hideous(I went there to check my size and maybe buy them if the price was ok compared to online) then he threw a pair of metcons my way and I was like no I don't like those, then he said try to fit them anyway, so did that, and actually these were a bit nicer to fit my foot(although not as nice as the Nanos) but then he said 80 Euro's and i was like WHAT? it turned out to be a pair of 7's in my size that looked really really great on my feet. So in favor of the stellar looks and the 2/3's of the price I actually went with the medcons 🙈

    I remember a time not that long ago i would make a comment about throwing the Reign into the mix and how would it compare... its good to see other people are not making those comments.
    I'm curious, there almost seems to be a mainstream favorite training/CrossFit shoe... and an underground / second tier/ fan favorite training/CrossFit shoe. I would be curious to see a video comparing something like the NanoX3/ Reign 5 vs Rad/ NoBull/TYR. Are these younger brands making better product than the more established brands? idk if that question needs a video but from your point of view, i would be curious to see what the landscape really looks like.

    • @thatfitfriend
      @thatfitfriend  Год назад +1

      I 100% think the younger brands are outworking these bigger brands when it comes to building shoes for niche training contexts. It's funny, if you look at most big media sites and their "best lists" and "rankings" you'll only see big brand models. Why? Because they have better affiliate programs and the writers likely haven't tested the smaller brand shoes because there isn't money to be made on pushing them more (can you tell I get annoyed/passionate about this, LOL).
      The Reebok Nano X3 is the first model from Reebok since the X that I think is truly a strong player across all verticals. The Metcon 7/8 are meh at best when it comes to excelling for everything and they have a diehard following because I think a lot of folks get stuck in the "I'm a Nike person" and never try something new. Just my two cents.

    This is one of the videos I’ve been waiting for, kind’ve confirmed what I was thinking, Metcon could be great for everything, but the heel holds it back apart from lifting. Where do you think the UA reign comes into this conversation? Particularly with against the Nano? Feel like the Nano is the best option for an all rounder for Lifting/Versatility/and light runs?

    • @thatfitfriend
      @thatfitfriend  Год назад +1

      Tbh, the Reign 5 and Nano X3 are both awesome and I think what differentiates them is their heel-to-toe drop as 7mm versus 2mm will vary regarding how they feel for certain athletes. Performance-wise, these shoes are both super well-rounded.
      I should make a video on those two soon, honestly.

    In the last 2 years.My workout routine and fitness routine has slowly evolved from power lifting to more functional weight training maintenance for soccer. Coming from 2 pairs of the Metcons 8s. I can agree that that sole plate is hard and clunky. Not designed for runs or jumping. Recently, I switched to the X3s. It's a more comfortable shoe but also stable enough for deadlifs and squats. While also being versatile enough to compliant in those short 2 to 3 mile cardio sessions on the treadmill. Overall, I think for me, the x3s are better fitting for my training style. Not to mention, they look like a normal shoe that is comfortable enough to wear outside of the Gym. I'm very satisfied with the Reebok x3s. They fit my training style better than the Metcon8s. It depends on what I'm doing! Comparing cross-training shoes to barefoot shoes is like apples to oranges and there's a lot of context/preference to factor in with each model.
      If I'm working heavier deads/RDLs or a lower body session where I want more foot activity, then I go barefoot shoes. For cross-training/CF and athletic-style training/hybrid training, I generally go trainers, but do use barefoot shoes here and there depending on my training block.

I did 1 leg session in the Metcon 8's and I found my knees were under more tension and I couldn't "push" with my quads like I do with my Vans. I think I realized that flat shoes work better for me. I'll probably return my Nike's and looking for your thoughts on the Nano X2 or X3, Reign 5 or Adidas Powerlift 5. In Canada a lot of shoes are sold out like the Adipower 3. I am no wiser. I want the Nile Metcon 4 but unavailable and outdated. Just tried both. Reebook probably has to go half a size lower which means not 45 not 44.5 not 44 But 43.5! Jesus christ. And I’ll need orthopedic soles for overpronation? Then nike Metcon 8 seems more all rounded and I love the feel. But I am not shopping for a well rounded shoe! i am shopping to do deadlifts olympic squats and walking lunges. Despair!

    So is it in fact the best nano yet? Better than the Nano 2’s?

    • @thatfitfriend

      Tough one, tbh! I wish I still had my 2s so I could wear both of them, but sadly, they're long gone.
      I do think the Nano X3 is the best model since the Nano 8 (X was also okay for me, IMO).

    Which would be better for deadlift

    • @thatfitfriend
      @thatfitfriend  Год назад +1

      Eh, both are fine for most intensities. I've pulled 550 in the Metcon 8 with no issues and 525 in the Nano X3.
      Personally, I'm pro deadlifting barefoot for top-end sets, but the Metcon 8 is technically better due to its lower drop/midsole density, IMO.

    The metcon 8 heel is shocking I'm finding, can't do walking lunges, and the constantly elevated heel sucks. I much prefer the heel wedges that came in previous models to give you options to change pending what excersise your doing

      Different shoes will interact with your feet differently and if you don’t love a shoes fit, then I often compare it to fitting a square peg into a round hole. Life is too short - might as well find something that works for you well!
