    I live in Kannapolis and the new Atrium Health Ballpark really is nice. They made it the keystone of a downtown renovation with a shopping and entertainment district right behind it. The team is called the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers in honor of the Cannon family who built the textile mills that was the whole reason Kannapolis even existed for the better part of ninety years. (After Teresa Earnhardt sold her controlling interest in the team, which was the Kannapolis Intimidators (named in honor of Dale Sr after he bought into them), they changed the name. it was literally a company mill town until the plant finally got shut down in 2004 and they've been trying to recover and renovate the downtown ever since. They opened the new stadium in 2020 just in time for the pandemic to shut the 2020 season down (South Atlantic League at that point) so they opened the ballpark for people to walk and run around and for kids to play in. The old stadium was in an industrial park right off I-85 on the outskirts of town so the location for Atrium is so much better.
    Also, since I'm from the Lynchburg area...City Stadium (nobody calls it "Bank of the James") is old and pretty spartan but recently renovated for the Hillcats, and yeah, it's been around since 1940. The football stadium next door is used for local high school games. Will they ever build a new one? I doubt it. They can't build one downtown that won't get flooded out by the James River because the whole damn downtown is on the side of a hill, so I expect they'll stay in BotJ until the team folds or moves. Fun trivia: Lynchburg used to be the Mets' single-A affiliate. Imagine having Gooden and Strawberry come through your minor league team in back to back years. They didn't stay long.

    Charleston, SC resident here. Charleston County does a decent job at fighting mosquitos(as well as one can in the swamp). But "The Joe" as locals call it, has great views of the historic core of Charleston and the Ashley River. For the longest time, the Charleston Riverdogs were affiliated with the Yankees, which was fun seeing who could be the "next Yankee legend".

    Modesto got another a couple days ago, so 2025 may be the last year....and Fresno Chukchanski opened as a AAA park before all the minor league changes came about... Kinston is down after this week....that team is moving...

    • @brianmoore6724
      @brianmoore6724 2 месяца назад +1

      @@fyrf0x8910 from what I've read there is not one....but the city council agreed a couple weeks ago to extend the lease one more year so the schedule is out and Modesto Nuts will be in John Thurman for another year. That might be all that's needed for Ontario to get their stadium up and running and Dodgers move there, Angels move back to Rancho and Nuts get San Bernardino in 2026 but none of that has been discussed. I only know that 2025 Modesto will be staying put

    • @fyrf0x8910
      @fyrf0x8910 2 месяца назад

      @brianmoore6724 so the nuts are potentially relocating after the lease? that would suck, Modesto is a second home to me and a lot of my family lives there

    • @brianmoore6724
      @brianmoore6724 2 месяца назад

      @@fyrf0x8910 100%....there history was supposed to end with these playoffs. Tomorrow could have been the last game for them, but a) they won game 1 and b) they got one more year extension. There is talk of a new ballpark in Ontario that the Dodgers affiliate, currently in Rancho Cucamonga, would move into, allowing the Angels to move out of San Bernardino, which just isn't as nice as Rancho....so it's possible the Nuts could end up moving to San Bernardino but none of that has been decided

    Bonus fact- The Wood Ducks have a caps and jerseys that says "Woodies" and the Fayette Woodpeckers have an alternative jersey that says ""Peckers."

      I feel for the residents and fans of the Down East Wood Ducks. I will say though that I am very excited for Spartanburg to be getting our first minor league team since the Spartanburg Phillies. The team is going to be playing High A ball too. While we are getting a new park (will be completed by start of 2025 season), Historic Duncan Park is on the national registry of historic places and has seats from Shibe Park. Once again, I feel for the fans of the Wood Ducks and hope that baseball is played in the Down East area again soon.

    I'll say this about the Cal League: One, I miss it. Bakersfield used to have a team in this league, but Sam Lynn Ballpark is... Let's just say not up to snuff and leave it at that.
    That said, I have some thoughts on a couple of these parks. San Jose's is actually pretty nice, given the age of the park. Fresno's, as mentioned in other comments, was built for a AAA team, but they got demoted in the 2021 MiLB shakeup, along with the rest of the Cal League getting dropped from High-A to Low-A. Visalia's park, while weird-looking, is actually one of the nicer ones, in my opinion. Lot of open ground for kids to run around and be kids in, the suites are nice, and I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. Only thing that sucks is that you have to go to Visalia to see it. It's not exactly in the safest part of the city. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

    1) Fayetteville - It's right next to the Amtrak station, which is served by the Silver Meteor line from New York to Miami and Palmetto line from New York to Savannah. The former is an overnight train, which creates a need for the long platform shown in the overhead. Also passing through but not stopping is Amtrak's Auto Train from VA to FL.
    2) Delmarva Shorebirds - The stadium is right next to the junction of Routes 13 and 50, the two major highways that bypass the city of Salisbury. While it's outside of the city limits, I think the main reason is so the team could better attract potential visitors who are vacationing in nearby Ocean City.

    The Inland Empire 66ers were originally the affiliate for the Seattle Mariners when San Manuel Stadium opened. Then it got passed to the Dodgers before the Angels took the team in I want to say 2011 or 2012. It's funny that you saw the architecture style similarities between San Manuel and Angel Stadium

    Glad High A Minor League stadiums next. I use to work at Ripken Stadium in 2008 & 2009. Since then it has changed a lot since I worked there. 95% of the field is artificial turf, except for home plate and the batters box. Though it has a mix of Oriole Park & Memorial Stadium, the concrete has begun to fail and the attendance has shrunk since becoming a High A club back in 2019. To date, the best 2 summers of my life

    Dunedin was almost home to MLB games back in 1995 when replacement players being used was discussed while the players strike continued. The Government of Ontario had a law that wouldn't allow replacement workers to cross picket lines so the Blue Jays could have played in the Tampa Bay area before the (Devil) Rays existed. Also take note, Tropicana Field was still configured as a hockey arena for the Lightning.

    Not even West Virginians want to go to West Virginia. Anyway, Salem Football Stadium is also the site that hosted the Stagg Bowl, which is the NCAA Division III championship game. The baseball stadium is a pretty nice facility and if you have a chance to catch a Salem Red Sox game there, I recommend you do so. The seats are decent, the concessions are good, the prices are reasonable and the baseball played there is quality.
    And besides, there ain't much else to do around here.

    LECOM/McKechnie was renovated in 2013 but then you say it's outdated. Not outdated at all. The front facade was inspired by the Spanish Mission architecture of the surrounding area, very fitting for where it is.
