      KaiNaruKami the thing is most people don’t read cards they think suck. Regardless if people make posts about it because they disregard the post if it has to do anything with that “bad” archetype. People only care about good cards. Example is lunalight no one cares about that archetype and used to laugh at you for playing it or felt bad if you beat them with it except the die hard lunalight players and only now it’s being covered because it won a ycs.

    Hey Tombox, you were very helpful in answering my last question, thank you. But I am not sure where the best place to ask this is, but given that this is a rulings video, I thought I'd give it a try:
    1. Player A correctly special summons Gouki the Giant Ogre during their turn.
    2. Player A says, "I want to enter Battle Phase."
    3. Player B says, "OK, but first..." and activates Shiranui Style Swallow's Slash and Tributes their monster to destroy Player A's Giant Ogre and a set backrow (both cards are destroyed and Slash resolves without a reaction).
    Q: Does Player A's initial declaration of "I want to enter Battle Phase" stand, and the game state immediately progresses to Battle Phase after the opponent's trap resolves? Or, does the game state halt, allowing Player A to then special summon Gouki Ringtrainer to revive the Giant Ogre, for instance?
    I have been doing some reading this past week and have found several conflicting sources. Page 48 of the rule book clearly states that declaring the end of a phase is the turn player ceding Priority. However, does this mean the turn player has no right to conduct any other actions in Main Phase 1 to react to an opponent's traps, etc immediately before the end of that phase? Or to perform regular actions in an "open game state"? The more I read, the less certain I become.

    • @MetaKaios
      @MetaKaios 5 лет назад +1

      If the end of a phase gets interrupted, that phase continues as normal afterwards.
      Eg. The hand size limit only comes into effect at the very end of the turn (end of the End Phase), so normally you can't decide you want to make another action after discarding your 7th card. But say you have 7 cards and declare the end of your turn. You discard Cursed Bamboo Sword. Its effect activates, searching another Bamboo Sword card. You had said you were ending your End Phase, but it has now been interrupted by CBS's activation, so it's still your turn. Now you can play a Quick-Play Spell from your hand, activate a set Trap with a discard cost, etc. before the turn is over. If you don't, you'll have to discard for the hand size limit a second time.

      @@MetaKaios Thank you for the detailed response, but I am not completely sure I understand.
      If I understand you correctly, you're saying that I could not conduct the Gouki Ringtrainer special summon before moving into the Battle Phase? This being the result of my already having declared my intention to shift phases?

    • @MetaKaios
      @MetaKaios 5 лет назад +1

      @@gerardhill1375 No, after your opponent interrupts, your Main Phase continues as if you hadn't declared the phase change (unless you decide to go to BP anyway).

      @@MetaKaios Thank you, yes, that phrase kind of threw me. I originally interpreted you that way but clarification is always good. Much appreciated.

    • @MetaKaios
      @MetaKaios 5 лет назад

      @@gerardhill1375 It's described on pg48 of the rulebook: www.yugioh-card.com/en/rulebook/
      The part to take note of here is that, if the game is played strictly according to the rules, you cannot actually say "I'm entering the Battle Phase." You would say "I'm passing Priority" to indicate that there is nothing more you want to do in the Main Phase, and are offering your opponent a chance to do something in the Main Phase. Only once your opponent declines that chance does the turn proceed to the Battle Phase. However, pg48 says that for ease of play (so you don't have to say "pass priority" after every single action), you can just say "Battle Phase", and your opponent should interpret that as meaning that you are passing priority. Since technically speaking there is no such thing as declaring that the current Phase is over, you are not bound by such a declaration if it gets interrupted, since once the opponent is done, Priority passes back to you again, and you have to choose to pass again before the Phase can end.

    Great Work on the vid! Hopefully you get better soon!
    I was wondering about another card ruling/clarification with names, specifically, cards like Prohibition/Psi-Blocker with Cyber Dragon/Harpy Lady.
    _Prohibition
    Activate by declaring 1 card name. Cards with that name, and their effects, cannot be used. Cards already on the field are not affected (including face-down cards)._
    _Psi-Blocker
    Once per turn: You can declare 1 card name; cards with that name, and their effects, cannot be used until the End of your opponent's next turn._
    I understand how they initially work, hence the wikia, but the question comes from the declaration of a card's name.
    Cyber Dragon archetype has cards that says "treated as Cyber Dragon while face-up" while Harpy Lady archetype has card that says "This card is always Harpy Lady".
    Proto Cyber Dragon (PCD) becomes Cyber Dragon, so I'm assuming w/e it's effect (if any) or itself cannot be used, and anything entails by both Prohibition/Psi-Blocker does not allow PCD to be used for anything.
    Harpy Lady (HL) is already Harpy Lady, I'm also assuming you can't play HL 1, 2, and 3 because they ARE Harpy Lady if Prohibition/Psi-Blocker calls Harpy Lady.
    So i guess the question is, cards like Harpy Lady can't be played because they ARE Harpy Lady, so does that mean cards like Cyber Dragon Zwei who can be treated as Cyber Dragon through its effect can become Cyber Dragon and activate w/e the effect they have or the Zwei that becomes a "Cyber Dragon" are now unusable (through Prohibition/Psi-Blocker)? Or how does that even work?
    TY in advance ^^ and hopefully it was clear enough xD for anyone else too, just wanted to make it clear as possible.

      StealJoe the drawing and the restriction arent part of the same effect. There is a “.” Between them. So if you get ashed, you dont draw from the pot, but still cant draw for the rest of the turn. Just like you still discard your hand if you get ashed on your demise.

    Also they are putting these once per turn restrictions at the end of cards with long effect text. They should know players dont read the effects thru all the way (i know i am guilty of this) so maybe they should put it at the beggining of the card txt.....

    Also I’ve found that with pot of extravagance you have to make your opponent banish before you respond. Most people will see pot and automatically ash without giving time to pay cost.. in this instance your opponent could banish less cards from extravagance than he originally wanted to because they see the ash is negating it so they will only banish 3 to save room for the other 2 copies... EDIT: assuming he’s playing 3 copies.

    So another common misplay i have seen on a lot of youtube deck profiles as well as combo tutorials involves shade brigadine. They search the shade off their rusty combo and than flip it up that same turn in order to xyzs summon. As far as i am aware you cannot activate traps the turn you set them. I double checked the rule book in my Sally structure deck to be sure i wasn't tripping. And ya you cannot activate them the turn they are set unless specified in the card text otherwise. I don't recall at any point in that combo there being a card that stated you can activate this card the turn you set it. And i run the deck in question as my main. So this is another huge misplay that if you don't catch it can most likely get you azathot'd on your turn and can in most cases lose you the duel.

      Compare this to a card like imperial order, which actually is a cost: “Once per turn, during the standby phase, you must pay 700 LP (this is not optional) or this card is destroyed.”

    I have a question about a card interaction. Say I activate a monster effect that targets a spell/trap (doesn't matter if its set or face-up) on my opponent's field as cost, the effect is that the targeted card is shuffled into the opponent's deck. My opponent activates the card I targeted in response as chain link 2. Its a *Back to the front* so he targets a monster in his GY to special summon. No one chains anything else, so his effect resolves and his monster is special summoned. Now my question is: does his *Back to the Front* go to his GY since he already used the effect, or does my effect resolve normally and that card is shuffled into his deck?
    Anyone know what happens? 🤔

    • @MSTTV

      Normal spells and traps activated cannot be returned to the hand or deck or otherwise, unless they have an effect which keeps them on the field. They are basically considered destroyed so they cannot be targets of cards that would put them back in the deck or hand. They can however get destroyed earlier or banished earlier via other cards.

      Metalman for cards with PCST, the activation condition are before a “:” if there is a cost, it is before a “;” and everything else is part of the effect. Each different effect are separated by a “.” And usually, if there is no “:” nor “;” it is a continuous effect, or a summoning condition. For kagari for exemple the card text is the following:
      If this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 "Sky Striker" Spell in your GY, add it to your hand. Gains 100 ATK for each Spell in your GY. You can only Special Summon "Sky Striker Ace - Kagari(s)" once per turn.
      As you can see, there is 3”.” so 3 different segment to understand.
      1st “If this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 "Sky Striker" Spell in your GY, add it to your hand.” As you can see, there is a “:” so it is a trigger effect, and no “;” so there is no cost. The condition is the “if this card is special summoned”, the rest is the effect.
      2nd “Gains 100 ATK for each Spell in your GY.” There is no “:” so it doesnt activate. It is a continuous effect.
      3rd “You can only Special Summon "Sky Striker Ace - Kagari(s)" once per turn.” Still no “:” but this isnt an effect, it’s a summoning condition, which wont be negated by any mean.
      If kagari gets negated both 1st and 2nd effect will get negated, however since the second is continuous it would still be applied under majesty’s fiend.

    Ligit question why doesn't Kaleido Chick's cost count as a card effect for yellow martins condition?

    • @thk573
      @thk573 5 лет назад

      Because cost is not the same as a card effect. A cost is something you do upon declaring activation of a card or effect. Such as paying life points, tributing a monster, or discarding a card. These are actions that are done before ANYTHING ELSE can respond or chain to this activation. This is why you still send a card from the deck to the GY if you activate Kaleido Chick even if Effect Veiler or Impermanence is chained to her. Because sending from the Deck to the GY is a cost to declare activation and is done before the opponent has a chance to activate Veiler or Impermanence.
      Card effects however are different. These happen after both players have nothing else to add to the chain and are ready to resolve said chain. They're things that happen during resolution. This is why Yellow Marten cannot get it's effect if dumped by Kaleido Chick. Because it was not sent to the GY as part of the resolution of an effect. It was sent as a cost (or payment if you will) for an effect's activation.

      Whether the effect resolves or not is irrelevant. It was sent to the graveyard as a cost not as an effect and therefore does not gain its effect because it was not sent by a card effect.

    Can you do one for ghost bell and chaos form? I was told apparently chaos form can be ghost belled even if my target monster is in my hand.

    If you detach a monster with a GY effect from Time Thief Redoer will the GY effect activate since the detach isn't a cost (example: ABC pieces)?

      Abc pieces are bad examples.. they need to be sent from field to grave, XYZ material aren't from field.
      But for cards like Lunalight Marten, yes she will activate.
