Can confirm that only one side needs to be grounded. They all power and ground respectively to one another. I have aftermarket headlight housings with DRL strips. I just broke the ground from the low beam, twisted the broken wires together, and spliced into the same ground that the DRLs get ground from. The low/high beam switch only switches the ground between low and high, which is why grounding the low beam itself keeps them on when high comes on. When the headlights come on, low/high both have constant power, it's the ground that switches them on/off. Just clarification for everyone else.
Did this mod a while ago as well. Added factory Z71 fog lights and wired them on their own circuit so I can have all 6 lights on. Not sure if the electrical system can technically handle it but they work lol. Also pulled the fuse for DRL since we all know those are prone to going out when you run incandescent bulbs.
Awesome! Totally doing this on my 2002 Burban in the morning. Just got some new LED lights but not happy with the high beam output. Glad to hear there's no long term issues either.
It’s 99-02 on all models. I have an 02 burb and an 02 1500hd, both are like this. My 2006 Tahoe takes the Fleece Performance $25 circuit board. That truck with silverstar ultras and LED fogs is downright blinding!
Hey, another 02 1500 HD owner! Pretty rare! I’m looking at keeping the low and high beams on myself. Installed new lenses and LEDs so much better than the stock ones.
Thank you. Oh only one wires ground install matter left or right in the headlights. Not need 2 wires. Very easy to set t tap connect and 3/8 ring 16 gauge. A like $10.
The part that goes under the relays from fleece performance only works on 03-07 gm trucks I ordered it for my 00 Silverado thinking it would work and the relays are in different locations in the fuse panel from 99-02 to 03-07 trucks
A little off topic but what leveling kit are you running? I bought a cheap one online and it barely made any difference. This time around I want to spend the money on one that I know will get the front end high enough.
Do you know if it works the same with the fog lights? I'm trying to get the fog lights to stay on when I turn on my high beams, I got HID fog lights and it's a pain when turning off my highs and having to wait for my fogs to warm up, I got a 2000 yukon xl, it's the same up to an 02 style, I already grounded the low beams to stay on with the high beams, also all HIDs.
You might have said it but would this work for the 88-98 trucks too? By the way great videos keep it up!! I used to own a 99 round body silverado and now I own a 98 k1500 with a 385 stroker.
Hey man I have a question I’m swapping a 4l60e in my Silverado my truck is a 4x4 with the floor mounted 4wd shifter the transmission I’m putting in is from a 4x4 with the push button shifter I can just use my old transfer case and it will bolt right back in place right?
Yes I would think your transfer case will bolt right up to the new transmission. I would just double check the spline count on each transfer case with a quick google search on each t case.
Yes. Just get another set of 3157 pigtails and splice them into the current running lights. I did that but kept the drl. I posted a video a couple weeks ago
If you did that that would make the highbeams turn on when the lowbeams do and not shut off. The way the lights work is both lights will always have power when it's dark out. When you turn on the high beams it sends a ground to the high beams and cuts the ground to the low beams. If you ground the low beams to the high beams you won't be able to turn the high beams off. So no it won't work
Pretty sure DRLs are only on when headlights or off and with it wired like this they don’t come off. Not certain cause my trucks wiring has always been weird so maybe that’s just mine.
@@EndlessWishlist I really appreciate you replying fast but no what I'm asking is I could just cut the yellow wire ad more wire to it and just ground it,because I was using a wire taper because I wasn't sure if I cut and grounded that it would mess something up,if that makes any sense
Great video dude! i want to do this in my silverado 2001, but now that this video is 1 year old, i want to ask, have you had any issues with burned fuses or something like that after this mod?
@@EndlessWishlist Nice! thank you, hey another thing, could you please recommend me a good aftermarket headlights? the stock ones that i have are not in the best shape and i would like to change them :D
I got mine off eBay. I don’t really have a brand to recommend but I can say don’t get the cheapest ones you can find. Get ones that actually have metal pieces in the back. The adjustments should resemble a factory.
sounds like you grounded the hot wire instead of the switched ground... Hopefully you didn’t burn up a circuit in the body control module :-( Good luck.

Wonder if having the aftermarket lights made the difference? My lights are factory and I had to do each side.

you only had to ground one side, but awesome tutorial. that was the first mod i ever did when i got my 02 5 years ago.
ruclips.net/video/H3F3FF91FW0/видео.html
is there a specific side? or just pick one
I had to ground both sides on my 02 Tahoe
@@tylercrow5818 passenger side for me
@@tylercrow5818 I have a 99 Tahoe!will this work on mine?
This worked awesome on my 02 Chevy Silverado! Thank you for the great tip. You the man!!!
Nice work! That is easier than I thought it would be. I know what I'm doing this weekend 🍻
Definitely gonna try this. Thanks for the video. Fingers crossed I don't mess this up
I love the set up of your truck man, i aspire to have mine look similar one day, haha only with a camper shell!
Thank you! I do need to get a new hood though. Mine is rough.
Bro ty so much such a easy mod for great results appreciate you bro
Just did this to my 02 Silverado and i did have to do both sides. I tried doing one and it worked but only on the one side. Just as a fyi.
So the low and high beams are on the same time?
Only in high beams, yes
Does it matter if i just splice into yellow wire or cut off completely??
It might not. It just needs to be a good connection
I have a 99 Tahoe I'm trying to modify lights on!So high and lows will stay on
Hey get AUXBEAM led headlights for both high and low beams! I have both for my 06 and I absolutely love them!
ruclips.net/video/H3F3FF91FW0/видео.html
I ground the yellow wire on my 99 Sierra on the passenger side but it is flickering with little light. Maybe a bad ground...
Does this work with fog lights? Or would you have to ground them out as well?
Do they sell the entire harness for headlights and parking brake. The wires on my 01 gmc are all mangled from previous owner
can you do it this way on 03-06? or does it have to be diodes in the fuse block or the kit
So do your low-beams stay on all the time, acting like DRL's? Or do the low-beams only come on when they should?
Exactly what I’m wondering
No. They still turn on and off if you have auto lights
@@EndlessWishlist yup. I did this mod months and months ago, lol.
My ground wire isnt cut like yours when i unplugged it, should i just tap into it instead of cutting it since i dont know what else its going to
I grounded both sides with t taps and a self tapping screw into metal but it didnt work for me? Any ideas why nothing happened
Yo, that Grill is nice where can I get one for my 2000 silverado? Nice job on the video.
I got it off eBay
A little off topic but what leveling kit are you running? I bought a cheap one online and it barely made any difference. This time around I want to spend the money on one that I know will get the front end high enough.
Question what are a good replacement headlights both top and bottom as mine need replacement
If you haven’t done it on your obs please make a video about it, looking to do it myself
You got it!
I have H.I.D. headlights. If I ground off the stock plug before the ballists will it work the same? 🤔🤔
Does this allow you turn still manually turn off the headlights?
Do you know if it works the same with the fog lights? Will this mod work if you have the led L shape headlights?
Where’d you get the 6.0 you swapped into the 02? Pull it from a junkyard truck?
I got it off eBay.
Mine came factory 6.0 in a 1500
Going to try this on my 03 avalanche. Got two chips and it worked on 06 Silverado but avalanche has the older fuse box.
You might have said it but would this work for the 88-98 trucks too? By the way great videos keep it up!! I used to own a 99 round body silverado and now I own a 98 k1500 with a 385 stroker.
It doesn’t. But it is a cheap mod. You just need a 5 pin relay
Will I still be able to turn the headlights off while the truck is running?
Yes.

Yes I would think your transfer case will bolt right up to the new transmission. I would just double check the spline count on each transfer case with a quick google search on each t case.
It's easier to use a jumper diode in the relays.
Not on a 99-02
No, this is easier
Nice..going to do this to my truck
With this. When in sunlight. Does it auto turn off like it was intended to. Or just 100% on all the time
You still have the auto on and off. Just when they are on and the high beams are on, the low beams stay on.
You only need to tip into the yellow wire on the Passage side do not cut the wire
Where did you get that front grille at?
Ebay
Do you know how to delete DRL, but make the turn signal markers stay lit like the 88-98 trucks??
Yes. Just get another set of 3157 pigtails and splice them into the current running lights. I did that but kept the drl. I posted a video a couple weeks ago
I did it on my 2002 chevy 2500 and I have leds but the all lights helped way more than oem
What if I connected the low beam ground to the high beam would that work also?
If you did that that would make the highbeams turn on when the lowbeams do and not shut off. The way the lights work is both lights will always have power when it's dark out. So can o cut a good length off the yellow wire ad a ring and ground it ?it should I tap j to it
You mean like follow the wire further up the harness and just use that for the ground? Yea I don’t see why not.

After doing that does the light sensor on a dashboard still work
Yes
@@EndlessWishlist thanks ill do mine tomorrow maybe lol
So do they still turn off and on in the day time?
Yes
Just put aftermarket low beam LED Light in the high beam plug 6000k (9006). You can see, and not blind oncoming traffic with the (9005) high beams.
The reflector housing is still creating more glare for high beam even if you aren’t using a high wattage bulb
Looks good.
does this work with fog lights?
Did you ever try this out? Was wondering same thing
I tried on my 01 tahoe it didnt work 😪
Spliced into both sides and grounded. Still no 4 high? Weird
You need to ground one side not both of them
Great video
You could use diodes on the fuse box and done
That works on 03+ but 99-02 have to do it this way. Ive got both body style
My 02 blows the fuse when i ground it
Then you are grounding the wrong wire
@@EndlessWishlist but its a red cable and a black cable choice and im grounding the black one becase its supposed to be a ground no?
