Hey man! I know this video is almost twelve years old now (half my age 😂) but you seriously saved my ass, I was sittin here trying to figure out how the hell to do this then I saw you do it with nothin but a socket extension and a crescent wrench and I thought damn, maybe this won’t be so bad after all haha. Seriously thought it was gonna be a massive pain but nope! Thanks to you I got it done. And as far as I’m aware this is the only video around that shows this technique and it’s an absolute life saver! So thanks!
Thanks. Just bought a 6.0 a few months ago. Had to replace about everything on it (Bullet proof it). Then the clutch fan went belly up. This video helped.
I see by the dates on your videos, you're doing this job RIGHT NOW. I'll be about 5-6 weeks behind you as I'm currently saving for some parts before I start tearing my '05 down. I'll be interested to see future videos of the tear down - I'm sure they'll be ultra helpful to me when I do mine! THANKS!
Note... The round holes are indicative of pre-2005 and those pulleys are THIN. They are weak and break. Replace with a 2005+ pulley which have elongates holes and are MUCH thicker.
I plan to replace my fan clutch soon with a snowplow clutch. I think mine is bad. I get a P0528 Fan Speed Sensor code and I never herd the fan kick on. I just finished plowing the blizzard and my operating temps ran between 206 and 220. My Bully Dog tuner would disengage when the temp went over 210. I hope the new clutch will keep my temps down. Thanks for the video.
The common problems pertaining to water pump is the cavitation that occurs from the blade causing erosion of the interior cover! Make sure to use new bolts! I have found that the replacement bolts are of a different material.
JamesRRossII just had to redo the head gaskets. So with the rust here in NH, I had to take a torch to the bolt to heat it up. Then it lossend up real easy.
Random question, have you had any problems with your water pump pulley since you've had your 6.0? Mine sheered off at the bolts on the front of it twice. I'm guessing it's because my water pump may have seized up but I'm wondering if it may be a common occurrence with the 6.0.
Would this cause the fan clutch to be loud when engaged? Was making a loud noise like a bud shifting when old fan clutch was on. Put a brand new fan clutch and orginal blades and still same noise when engaged. I’m thinking the blades are bad since they are 15 years old with 350k on them . Any ideas?
I bought a new clutch and installed it. It was bad from the factory and alr3ady locked up. Had to return and replace it. When locked, it sounds like a jet engine with an afterburner engaged.
@@finishmasters was it a Murry? That’s what I bought? Any way to test them before installing another new one? I just replaced mine with that Murry last week. Might have to do it again.
Check back tomorrow and I'll Post some valuable info in the description! One place to buy ARP bolts is in CT just add the com at the End of newenglandperformanceproducts
By the time you drive to auto zone, talk to the knuckleheads behind the counter and fjnlly return with the wrench, you would already be done my way. Also you could just save the time and money and get a case of beer. I have the specialty tools and some of them cost 500 bucks.
You should show how you actually took it off...on bugging of video we could see it was already off... realistically is not that easy..show actual removal

You just saved me $50-$70. Thank you sir.
Same
Thanks for sharing! This is by far the easiest and most effective way to get those fan clutches off! The darn shroud is real pain too
Thanks brother doing the water pump last minute to head out in the truck, helped a lot thanks !

Thanks for this video...saved me a huge headache & a heap of time...appreciate it!
Does that wire on the front of the clutch come off or would i have to get a whole new clutch if that wire is ripped?
btw, I wish I had watched this video months ago when I was doing the work, would have saved me a hell of a lot of time. Good vid.
You make it look easy. The big nut on the fan clutch on mine appears to be staked. I don’t think I can get enough swing to overcome staking.
Note... The round holes are indicative of pre-2005 and those pulleys are THIN. They are weak and break. Replace with a 2005+ pulley which have elongates holes and are MUCH thicker.
Thank you my brother he made it 123 for me you have a great day

Well what's going on when you have did exactly what you showed to do and it still won't come off??
Yeah, I’m there now🥵
Bought a 15 inch crescent wrench and it didnt open wide enough. What size is that shaft?
My wire harness from the clutch is broke and i have no clue where its supposed to run to and plug in any info would help thanks!!!

I was in the process of pulling the engine. To get the impeller, just remove radiator and f.an
The whole front cover needs to come off, pulleys etc.

Thanks for the video.. I'm doing my water pump this morning

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
hi i was wondering the exact dimensions of the bolts because the place who fixed my fan clutch only put one bolt back in so i must buy more.
Soooo… it is a standard right hand thread?

@@finishmasters out of the box how hard should it spin by hand? I had a lot of resistance on the new fan clutch when I tried Turing it by hand
Should spin freely so until temp above 230 engages and locks it up.
@@finishmasters so if I open a brand new box and I should be able to spin it by hand similar to a wheel bearing correct.
Getting ready to do same job I'll be watching thanks for all the info.
Yeah that's a 3/8s extension and I tried to hold it like that but it just made the hole wider and useless
any idea how too remove a stuck steel heater tube?
I'd be careful running a hot power tune! Make sure your radiator , ac condenser and intercoolet with trains cooler are not restricted.
Thanks could have saved money for that fan clutch wrench set oh well got em now but thanks for the vid
Yo thanks this helped a lot.

Helpful video, damn Ford hangs a lot of shit on their diesels. Makes it tough to get to anything.
THANK YOU for the video... very helpful!!!!!!!
Brilliant bud! Thank you!

I hope to God I don't have to take th e whole front end off to do this water pump
You dont. Check out DieselTechRon video on fan clutch removal. Its so simple. 30 minutes max to remove it.
Thank you!
Does anyone that has replaced fan hub with 1997 7.3 hub know if one can use the factory shrouds after conversion?
Thomas Mutchler
If you use the fan clutch from a 7-3 and the adapter from BulletProofDiesel your fan shroud still fits
Thomas Mutchler
You will get a pending code if you hook a scanner up to the truck showing p0528 for no fan speed signal if you decide to go this route
very helpful video
Dude thanks !!!!
That what she said! 03:19
Thanks 👍

invest in an air hammer....then go rent a fan clutch wrench set from autozone - this is literally a 45 minute job, if that.
Thanks man...
Thanks ..muchoo thumbs up
hells yah
👍🏼
Thanks. ....
this is fucked up why does this shit happen come fix it for me
you don't unless you really need to. in that case I take a now torch to it, heat it up and twist it out.
