- In this video Sam and Tobi get through Labor Day at the store. Sam takes you for a history lesson about handheld gaming, voice synthesis, early indie developers and more while Tobi tries to save an AWFUL PS4!
Editor Joe here! Sorry for the glitch in the matrix! I made a little mistake editing after being up all night but I hope you all enjoy the video!
Don’t forgot though, tickets are on sale for Really Rad Weekend at reallyradweekend.com!
the matrix is real.
you can crop the timeline in the youtube editor!! Just open up youtube studio then click on edit. Then you can find the part that is redundant and just cut it out. It will reprocess and when the new version is ready everyone will only see the new one. If you mess it up you can just revert back!!
@@TritonTv69420 oh nice!
I love how much research you put in and of course how beutiful you are 😊
That's all wel and good, but have you heard of Really Rad Weekend? It's this November 2nd and 3rd!
Yall are hustling. RUclips, store, special events. This is how you run a business! I love to see it.
Toby makes the videos so much fun to watch. We need more ‘Shop Mouse’!
I agree 👍
Deja vu with the rad weekend
It's a sign we're in the matrix
which, if you don't know about Rad Weekend... I thought I was trippin for a second :D
But have you heard about really rad weekend? It's got...
I thought I was going crazy lol
So nice she said it twice.
The cleanup portion was so satisfying. Please post more of shop mouse and you guys just goofing off. It's harkening back to my blockbuster days.
Thank you so much for taking the time to show us all these neat vintage hardware. Especially the Tron game with the intellivoice. Amazing tech for its time.
"Mattel Electronics presents... Bee Seventeen Bar-mah...!"
I love seeing privately owned game stores like this one and seeing all these rare finds. As someone who grew up with video games and likes to make rock covers of video game themes, I admire what you're doing. Love the way you talk and the videos, hope to visit your store someday
Tobi needs to have her own videos on here.
Taking apart, cleaning consoles and possibly solder work in the future.
She has potential.
I worked at a mom n pop’ video game store from 94-2001 as my 1st job. What a great experience. Being there as every system dropped and game released in that time. Early E3 days, discounts and bringing new games home every night, having the keys to place and stopping by late to play with my friends on multiple TV’s. I saw everything come out new, from Turbo Duo, N64, PlayStation, Jaguar.. etc, etc. Spoiled 90’s. 😊
Rad history lessons on Bill Williams and Microvision! Another great video, guys!
BTW that rad song playing in the background is “I Like It” by Ya Soos
It must be so cool to see/potentially play the old stuff that comes in!
Its interesting to see where gaming has been and what the fads used to be
My future BIL had an Intellivision when he started dating my older sister in 1984. I played a fookton of Intellivison games on that. We didn't get a console until 1985, and it was a Colecovision which had superior graphics compared to the Intellivison, but BIL then upped the ante and bought an NES in 1987. I got an NES a few months later and a Sega Master System. BIL then got a Sega Genesis in 1990 which I didn't get til 1993. That was my last console for a long time (and put away) due to being busy with college and work. In late 1990s I got back into it and bought an SNES off ebay, and then PS2, GameCube, Wii, Xbox 360, Xbox One and now Xbox Series S. I wanna buy some classic consoles again. This channel is fueling that. :)
Best part of the video was the random song starting during the cleaning portion of the video. 🔥🔥🔥sending love from MI
Man i thought i was having a stroke about a minute and half in. :)
Whoopsie… 😅
lol I was like wait a second
I happened to pause the video to do something else right before that clip repeated and then came back to it. I thought I had accidentally re-winded until I saw the comments mentioning it.
I have been leaving shorts on for too long because i wasn’t affected by it. Then i read the comments haha
Same
As a kid from the 70s and collector of all things video games/arcade from that era - thank you for mentioning our past! I can hear the love in your voice for games from our time. Especially when you were speaking about the Intellivision. Hope to visit your store next time Im near by!
Fun vlog, awesome stash.
I do have a bit of history with the "Intellivision". I watched the AVGN episode "Double Vision Part 1", one of Atari's best competitors. I then owned a "Plug n' Play" of Intellivision, but probably the best thing I owned of the Intelleivision was a PS2 compilation called "Intellivision Alive". Really showed the staying power that console had.
Also never heard of the "Microvision", truly looks like a true relic that predated stuff like the Nintendo Game n' Watch and Game Boy. Also someone obiviously someone didn't like their PS4 to turn it in in that condition. Glad Tobi and you cleaned it and breathed new life to it. Hopefully whoever buys it will show it more love and respect. :)
You could do a "this week's gross console to clean" as its own video series, and it'd probably become a popular feature of your channel.
Crust busters!
ASMR console cleaning. *HEAVY SCRUBBING NOISES* 😅😅
Tobi's expression when it started up I understand all to well, you calming her for the restart is awesome.
If I'm ever your way, may pick up a few games, or sell.
A complete Disney Infinity collection (no Peter Pan), haha
there's nothing more stressful than taking apart a console or computer and seeing if it still works when you put it back together
Recently found the channel. Love the content. Keep it up!
Heck yea, thank you!! 💙
It's so great to hear some gaming history. I truly love this channel so much 🩵💙✨⭐💫 you guys a chill bunch and RAD I hope one day I'll go to that game store and meet you guys in person 🙏 I love you guys always!
Those were really interesting tidbits! I never knew there was a handheld that far back. Keep the knowledge coming 🧠
Real shame the Intellivoice didn't go anywhere. I still have one and the lines from Bomb Squad are regularly quoted amongst my friends.
Keep doing the cleaning videos! All the stories and interactions are great, thanks for the cool videos!
I had completely forgotten about the Microvision! Wow. Thanks!
How have I never seen this channel before!? I love it, and would sell my left kidney to see it in person. A bit of a distance from New Zealand, but I'll make a plan in the next couple of years...
Love starting my day with a new RadJunk video. 🙂
in 1982 a Speak N Spell cost $19.99. If Intellivision had gotten with Texas Instruments that voice synthesizer might have been more successful.
This is the first time I have watched one of your videos while I was on youtube looking at other youtubers, you popped up and I figured I would check you out
"BEEEH SEAVENTIIN BAUMMER” -AVGN
Just got back from a suprise weekend my wife set up. We went to Plano TX and hit up the Retrocade. A place you pay one price 12 bucks a person and you can play all these vintage arcade games free play style also had a bar. The next day she took me to the National Video Game Museum where you can also play everything from electronic football to Smash Bros. Then that evening she took me to Nerdvana a video game restaurant. They set you up at a table with a console of your choosing NES and up and play as long as you want. Also on a side note their food was on point. They pride themselves for making scratch made dishes and their cocktails were awesome.
Y'all should put larger holes in the PS4 case (curling iron or soldering gun), paint it lunar grey and dub it the "cratered moon edition" and sell it for $600 as a Radjunk store special edition. Nothing wrong with a "rough" product, as they do exist and bargain hunters won't mind if a little bit of dough is knocked off the sales price, but just pay 30 percent less or so upfront for it.
Fun video! The further we get away from this old tech, I'm starting to just marvel that it works at all. Amazing.
Thought I stroked out there for a minute. I had to rewatch the beginning a couple times just to make sure.
love this channel I'm in the UK but man are you guys a chill bunch and quite RAD might I add
Two minutes in and I'm seven again! Intellivision was my preferred over Colecovision and Atari back in those days. An uncle of mine had the Microvision then he gander down down to an older cousin before it disappeared so I never got my hands on it, too busy playing Pong! Love your channel especially the older retro stuff from the early 80's.
1:36 i think there was a glitch im the matrix
A lil de ja vu doesn't hurt. lol 😄
WHOOPS… 😅
🐈⬛ 🐈⬛
@@jonathannoble9465 so succinct; i love it 😆
You brought back memories of the Intellevision Intellevoice. It was quite cool at the time. Not so much now .Thanks
I never knew about the first portable console that used cartridges. That's pretty cool. Before that, there were portable single games like the Mattel Electronic Football game and other sports games that followed. I remember in the early 80s having some of the "portable," Coleco table top games and a couple of driving games that were built like small arcade cabinets. The driving games were actually mechanical with some electronic lights and sound effects. I also had a 1980 knock-off handheld Space Invaders game made by Entex. It was hilariously called Space Invader without the S on the end, and completely unlicensed.
Space invader (the one you’re talking about) is actually a favorite around here!
I remember being amazed when I first played Ghostbusters on the C64 and it screamed out Ghostbusters! Didn't even require extra hardware. Seems trivial now, but back in the day, it was amazing to hear a computer talk.
Hey did you guys see gamestop is going "retro"? They are going to start having retro sections in the stores selling older systems and games. I will always go to smaller local shops either way.
😂 Where the heck did my circle-circle cable gooo?... Fresh A Cappella !
What a dream life!! Thanks for sharing the radness!!!
Wow what a Rad way to start my week. Thanks for a another great video. You and shop mouse have the vibe.
hello fellow insomniacs.
Hello
Thank you for showing off the Microvision! I had one back in 79 and played the hell out of it. I always wanted the Star Trek game for it but alas never got.
Thank you, Cyberpunk Emma Stone. Now I have yet another handheld to chase. 😄
Seriously, only recently discovered your channel and it is indeed rad!
Always a great idea to crack open something that a smoker owned. One fella I used to plays games with (turbo pothead/smoker) took a picture of his computer build; it looked like it was growing a sweater made of coal inside. Neat channel.
I kind of love this channel. I wish this store was in my area lol 😅 I had an Intelevision when I was a kid. My dad and I played Lock’n’Chase and BurgerTime together all the time.
great to hear some gaming history. @9:16 hits hard when you were born in the early 80's😆
Great video today!! 😃
I found a modern recreation of the Merlin handheld game for iOS called Myrddin. It cost 99 cents so no ads. It has that nostalgic hit with the same sounds. Especially when playing music maker.
new fan, awesome stuff and really nice store. love the content
I think this channel is the best channel ever on youtube
I just want to commend radjunk and this channel for keeping older games and console relevant. They have much more drive and passion than most all of us to do this. Cheers! And thank you 😊
Maybe Milton Bradley had the Microvision with interchangeability in 1979, but technically we had Mattel Auto Race in 1976 and Mattel Football in 1977 beforehand.
Still have mine. Works great and I have 6 games.
I actually preferred LED games and VFD games, but it was unique for the time. :)
I need to get an Intellivision and some games. I’ve really enjoyed discovering the 2600 and 7800 through the 2600+ and getting a small collection going. It was all before my time but many of the games are still fun today.
I was REALLY high when I was watching this and the part about really rad weekend did some psychic damage to me lol
Fun video this time. Thanks for the ride! :)
Cool Ghost shirt. What a great band!
I always loved B17 Bomber using the Intellivision voice synthesizer.
Stumbled upon this video and seen something new. Thanks and just subscribed.
love the channel so much keep up the great content!
Shop mouse is adorable trying to get that PlayStation to work under fear of repercussions for buying it 😅. Id love to see some informal tournaments at the bar, I think that would make a good video.
Least fav console, any Xbox.
I appreciate the Bill Williams history lesson lol sounds like he was an interesting dude❕
Microvision has an LCD screen which are prone to outgassing. The only ones that still work have been stored in ideal conditions. Even those units will eventually outgas due to glue deterioration.
Bart's Nightmare on SNES was such a bad game that I almost gave up being a gamer, so I fully understand why it forced Bill Williams to quit the gaming industry entirely. That game haunted my childhood, pun very intended.
I kinda enjoyed it when I was a kid 😆 I always thought that there were more minigames in it that I didn't find yet, which made me keep coming back to it lol
I love that old computer voice style 👍🏻 it needs to be brought back in certain games
My best friend’s mom growing up had that console and she would bust it out during sleepovers and we would play 😅
My uncle had the Intellivision with voice and I remember playing B17 bomber which was pretty cool at the time. Didn't realize it was so expensive, the feature was neat but not mind blowing
i can thank the angry video game nerd for most of my retro knowledge. when he did the intellivision, he spoke about that voice module thingy. double episode with colecovision
it's fun listening about all these old, retro consoles and seeing what they led to. Also, i dont know how that microvision plays, but makes me think of tiger electronics games
to answer your question at the end....not sure about least fav console but least fav controller...N64. that killed any hype i had on that console. except some... like Shadows of the Empire. that had a decent control layout
Thanks for the good info about gaming history much appreciated - any change to see the 3DO from Panasonic, please
Hello! love your store and your videos. I hope one day I can go there and buy something for my video games and consoles collection. Good morning from Canada.
My buddy from the UK sent me the Microvision. I still have it after so many years. Same year I was born.
Even some tidbits missing from my collection. Neat.
I grew up with Intellivision Loved that console. I am driving to Biloxi later this month. Now I want to visit the store.
I remember when Intellivoice came out. We got it to play B-52 Bomber. "Watch out for flak." It was a big deal for an 8 year old.
Dang. We were in dustin and drove to P'cola for something to do when beaches were closed. Wish we know y'all were there. Next time.
Nice vid 👍 great job on cleaning the PS4.. ever had a PS4 that made a lot of noise with just running a game ?? Bought a second hand PS4 pro that was rattling like crazy.. I opened it up completely and sanded a bit from the IHS of the CPU/gpu inside of it and cleaned it completely. and it makes no sound at all with any game right now you can't even hear it run almost 👍
One of the very first handheld video games was the Mattel Classic Football which came out in '77. It was just one game and not programmable though.
After seeing that PS4, I would make it a prerequisite to make sure your tetanus shots were up to date before 'going in' some of those trade-ins. Also, I'm old enough that I had an Atari 2600/5200 and Commodore64. As crusty as they look today, back then, we loved them. And trust me, for folks old enough to have been there, the most awe inspiring moment in video games, was EASILY seeing/playing the original NES, and seeing how far advanced that was from the old Atari systems. Good times!!!
I would love to visit this store and pick up something but I would never want to go to Florida.
On the verge of charging to get in your museum.
That was one gnarly console. 🤮Cheers for the vid Sam (and shop mouse!)
My least favorite console is one ruined by cigarettes.
That's it I'm subscribing, you gals are too fun to watch
I loved MAZE-A-TRON on the Intelevision when I was a kid. Now I'm a working game dev. RAD.
Very cool store, I'm bummed you're not around the corner. I live in SoCal and I'm not close to any decent gamer's store. Nice vids tho.
I had an intellivision in the late 80s that I got from a yard sale. I only had a few games but I liked Microsurgeon.
You guys would do great in Denver too.
Tobi reminds me of Taissa Farmiga from American Horror Story (Season 1).
The vibe of this video went off when the song i like it dropped and the crunch wraps appeared for lunch!
Great video, but you might as well do a little more disassembly of the PS4 to change the paste and thermal pads.
They got PS4 back to life the disrespect to console with burns it's to see they're people don't really take care of there console not surprised cause hate and judgment of video games won't ever stop now people are done hating on Star Wars Outlaws what next new game to come out and what's the next new game to get the hate and judgment
Yeah! Waay before Nintendo etc..
Had many of the old handhelds..All the best were VFD.
Full colour..The LED invader game's and "Merlin" were memorable too.😉
I got a micro vision for my birthday back in the day. Thought it was great at the time.
Thats a lot of chaos for just two people! :)
How did I not know you guys had a cool ass store while i was on vacation there 😭. Those cigarette burns gine that PS4 Some character 😅
