Working at a municipality in CA. New CARB regs going into Public Works contracts this year. All sorts of “clean vehicle” and equipment requirements now to be implemented for all heavy trucks and tractors (and even hand tools like cutters). Battery-powered tools and electric being required, with very little wiggle room. Construction costs doubled and tripled since “Uncle Joe” stepped in (coincidence?). I can only imagine what prices will be now!
So hypothetically you could swap an engine made in 2008 with one made in 2011. On-road model year engines 2008 and 2011 are controlled by the same regulations, Tier 4 Interim. Am I missing something?
If I find a good deal on a diesel truck that willl not be CARB compliant as of 2023, can I swap in a gasoline engine and be OK? There are some good deals on diesels going for 1/3 of the price they would without the new law
Kalifornia has some insane regulations and it is doubtful that you can put in a gas engine when it originally came from the manufacturer with a diesel engine.
i just found out about CARB's standards on EVs with range extenders (APU) and it has left me baffled and shocked! in order to qualify for rebates the APU cannot provide more range than BEV mode? By this standard revolutionary breakthru REEV heavy duty trucks like the Hyliion ERX which only does 75 miles on BEV mode but thanks to its natural gas generators up to 1200 miles would be be "within standard" Thats just silly, backward and only discourages applications that previously work on diesel to explore electric propulsion + cleaner burning fueled range extenders!
So if a company like Swift is asking me for a CARB certification and my truck is a 2015 frieghtliner do I need to provide them with one? I’m kinda confused.
Jaime your truck is out of California compliance , look at my video on extensions . Truly you need to call trucrs to give them your truck info and see what is your best option
California Lawmakers are ageist. These new California laws are prejudice and discriminatory based solely on age. Where are the diversity and inclusion liberals? It is very important to be able to have a diverse and robust fleet. It seems the LGBTQ+ community does not apply their rules evenly to everything. They are not really interested in inclusion are they. Older trucks were built to last forever. Older engines can survive an EMP attack. Older truck engines can operate without the dependence on complex electronics. There is a also a right to repair issue here. California lawmakers are setting out to erase history. These laws are no better than the Taliban destroying antient artifacts.
CARB is destroying business in California. Defund CARB!
yes they are

Hi Paula, looking into buying a used 2016 HINO 268 200k mile I am in CA and so is the truck. How long will it be compliant.

I’m Carb compliant and my truck is a 2012 with the Filter BUT I don’t have the DEF feature..if so will my truck be non compliant?
Yup sounds like it
2012 manufactured trucks should be built with def based on federal requirements
Does this apply to non residents doing business in CA?
This applies to all trucks in use in Californina
What about a pick up truck Dodge Ram 2004 3500 dually 5.9 Cummins diesel ?
